I was referring to SaltyWaffles comments about the name taking away from its originality.
Not so much taking away from its originality as its distinctiveness. And yes, I know that names are hardly original--often intentionally so--but there's a difference between a name leading to lack of distinctiveness/recognition/reputation (and confusion) when it's entirely unnecessary and a name happening to be the same as something unrelated or merely part of a larger, more distinctive name.
Hyperion--refers to three different (at least one of which is well-known) cruiser models on this site/FSO alone. Outside the context of FSO, it also is an extremely recognizable name in both Borderlands and Starcraft
up to and including the present time. In the latter, it refers to an iconic sci-fi warship, and in the former, it is even closely associated with an iconic ship (the Hyperion 'H'-shaped ship is often referred to as something like 'Hyperion (something) ship'. I'm just saying, in both the immediately relevant and merely related contexts, it's already widely used and iconic for other (SIMILAR) things. A missed opportunity, not a failure or anything like that.
If you would like help for finding/picking names, I'm sure there are a lot of people here who would love to help you out. Heck, you could probably just throw some general categories out there--Greek Mythology, real naval history, Asimov's works, etc--and get a list of suggestions from each. Ultimately, it's totally up to you--if you think Hyperion is the right name for it, then by all means go for it.
1) Aesthetically (I guess in terms of shape), it is a rather big departure from FS1/2 Terran design, not to mention Vasudan. Not really a problem if it's in a post-Capella era, just something to keep in mind. It still looks awesome, regardless.
Nowhere is it said it's supposed to be a Terran warship, nor even that it's supposed to be set in the FS universe.
Sorry, my mistake. Still, it's just a general thought that came to mind. Perhaps someone thinking about using it for a mod in the FS universe would find it useful, or something, in the future.
And once again, fantastic model. It's got a very strong...character, I suppose, to it that stands out right away. Sleek and futuristic, but unquestionably functional and not overly complicated, either.
