Saw it in this youtube video, where the glow from the stars is affected by ship silhouettes. Looks incredible sick. How do I get it?

Are you referring to lightshafts, or...?

Watch at 1:30 you can see the shadows of the ships in the glow of the star. So yeah I guess those are lightshafts.

They should be enabled by default, although mission designers can disable it with a SEXP.
If you share your command-line options, we can tell you if one of them would turn it off (I think -no_glsl might stop them from showing up, but I'd have to double-check that).

Here's what I've got so far. Are they only for Freespace 1, and do I need the MediaVPs for that?
-3dshockwave -fb_explosions -rearm_timer -3dwarp -warp_flash -stretch_menu

I don't think they require the MediaVPs, but maybe they do (or post_processing.tbl at least). Regardless, none of those flags should turn them off.

Post-processing is now enabled but still not seeing the effect. The glow just goes away whenever a ship passes in front of it.

Never mind, I got it to work. Must require the MVPs, which I only have for Freespace 2. Tell you what, my MacBook could handle everything I threw at it until now. No lightshafts for me
