Beautiful stuff.
-
Impressive, I envy your drawing skills.
The very first pic... you sure that's Galactica related and not inspired by S:AaB ?
It looks like a Hammerhead with additional stuff attached.
-
LOL...Viper Veritech...da bomb! :D
-
U.S.S. Thunderchild!!!!!!!!
War of the Worlds/Star Trek Crossover FTW!!!!!!!!

-
Love that last one. Looks like a cross between the WC movie Rapier and the WC1 Dralthi.
-
Bah you suck compared to me.
j/k. of course
-
I can't refute that at this time, not without some research, so i guess ill take your word for it.
I suck at drawing compared to Snail
-
Highlight the message.
-
IIRC, there's already a USS Thunderchild, Akira class, appeared in First Contact. But I think I like this one better ;) .
-
Never say the Vipertech is crappy. NEVER.
-
Cant believe Ive missed this -.-
Very nice stuff indeed, and excellent drawing "language" as well
-
I like sodium chloride
j/k. of course
-
Well I do, so no j/k there.
-
You don't get it.
Apply sprinkle of salt directly. Seems to eliminate them quite effectively.
-
Ohhhh I love the carrier in the second pic and thunderchild too
-
Well I do like being eliminated.

All we need now is Baltar chomping on cigars in the war room talking about how certain "sacrifices" must be made, Adama screaming about Cavil seeing "the big board," Tigh telling us that flouridation is a Cylon plot, and Gaeta riding a nuclear bomb with a bottle of ambrosia in his hand.
What? No one else gets the Kubrick vibe from this?
Dr. Strange Gaius: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Frak the Cylon...

 See that's what I like about you. You can take it just as well as you can give it.

Star Slayer: You're "Carrier" is fraking Brilliant! :D
I love Space Carriers/Battleships no matter how "impractical" they are...
I found a dozen meshes on Google Sketchup. I just whist tehy would show up in TS3.2 I made them .objs and then .cobs but to TS they are invisible or just NOT loaded (no data)...

Your sketch was great, very little optical illusions which make things extremely difficult.
I'll detail it latter when it's turn to be finished.

Couple older pieces from a side project, it's in hibernation right now but hey aerodreadnoughts are to cool to not follow up on at some point.

Why have you not authored a webcomic yet? Those are awesome!

Heh thanks,
just for kicks here is a little chicken scratch doodle of a battlecruiser and light cruiser of the same Navy as the aircraft, since aerodreadnoughts are rule of cool.

cookie if you can recognize Unrivalled 's lines
-
I'm getting bits of Hood from her, but it's closer to the Queen Victoria-class...
-
Cookie to you sir. I was shooting for the Hood, I hadn't even really looked at the Queen Victorias. Actually the standard dreadnought class for this faction is based of the interwar era Queen Elizabeth class, after she had refitted with the single stack but before they had done away with the rakish conning tower and tripod masts in favor of a giant brick.
-
Hey its a TNG era... um cutdown Galaxy class. Something a bit smaller and a lot faster. Sure the symmetry on the saucer is botched but I'm lazy and its close enough for gov't work :D
(http://i31.tinypic.com/qo65hx.jpg)
Some additional views of the KGNFS 2 seater fighter, I dunno big heavy duty biplanes are fun. A swarm of these peeling out of the clouds on an Maulheld class super aerodreadnought would be pretty cool.
And something inspired by VIA. I really dug the sorta 60-70s look of bbzwbbzw's early stuff and decided to roll with that angle. If it isn't glaring obvious its inspired by a MiG-21 UM LanceR-B. I might build a few more if I can be arsed. Something F-8 Crusader and A-4 Skyhawk based might be nice.

A Wolfen concept I did for Shadows of Lyat. Funny enough I never played Star Fox so my designs for them tend to be a little off the beaten path.
I've got a few more things cooking including a Leman Russ Demolisher MBT and I'm toying with a compiling a set of sketches displaying Langschwert wards.
-
... Leman Russ Demolisher MBT ...
DO WANT!
-
Demolisher is not an MBT. :P

Eh. S'long as we get to see the Demolisher.

DO THE ROOSTERSAURUS REX HAVE LARGE TALONS?!!
And in slightly more serious news, a couple older shots of some aerodreadnought "verse" capital Ships. A von Kliest Zitadelle class carrier and Gryphon Undine class light cruiser. Neither of these are really final versions though, both have had a bit of refinement here and there especially the Zitadelle which is one of the oldest designs i did for the verse.

[Tangentially-related]Yay, I now have a scifi-meshes.com account, so I can view attachments there.[/tangentially-related]
-
It's amazing the level of detail you put into these.
-
The design ethic on these wierds me out, openly mixing WWI and WWII styles like that.
-
Reminds me a lot of the concept, if not the exact design, of the anime series Last Exile. There's something fundamentally cool about giant flying battleships.
-
I see that.
-
Reminds me a lot of the concept, if not the exact design, of the anime series Last Exile. There's something fundamentally cool about giant flying battleships.
Design wise I'm riffing as much as possible from real world warships rather then more unique steampunk style of Last Exile, though they are in similar vein. I certainly wont have Gryphon Royal Marines on deck standing in firing lines the shooting at von Kliest Kriegsschiff Grenadiers like its the Napoleonic era however.
NGTM-1R You weirded out bad or good? The KGN is the most technically advanced fleet and is based off the inter war look of Royal Navy ships like the Hood and Queen Elizabeth class. von Kliest, with the exception of the Zitadelle which is driven off the Akagi/Shōkaku, are going to be GHSF influenced specifically the Derfflinger and Seydlitz/Moltke/Von der Tann. I'm still nailing down the third faction's capital ships, right now I'm waffling between gilded pre-dreadnoughts or really industrial looking ships like the Courbet or Imperatritsa Maria Class.
-
It's good; frankly WWI ships drive me up the wall with their open secondary batteries and weird designs (not all main battery turrets on the centerline, wtf's with that!?), but the combination of a WWI hullform and WWII armament layout gives me a moment's "whut" every time I look.
-
A few Updates most of these are WIPs and i used a different scanner this time with less capability shall we say.
Dpv.8 Zornhau:
The aircraft are named for the master strokes of German Longsword, Zornhau is the strike of wrath. The tail symbol is a stand in but I am pretty happy with the heraldry. Basically von Kliest has strong knightly traditions and those Orders saw the aerocraft as the heir to their warhorses and embraced the air service. Therefore heraldry is a standard part of their aircraft. The shield is split into three major parts. The top always will have the wolf head, which is the symbol of von Kliest itself. Behind it is the colours of the particular Duchy the unit hails from, von Kliest only recently coalesced from a bunch of semi independent (sometimes warring) duchies. In the bottom left is the Ritterorden or knightly order, which is analogous to the parent Air Group. Finally the bottom right panel is the Jasta or squadron number.
Kingdom Gryphon Naval Flight Corps Pilots:
I modeled it loosely on World War 2 USAAF bomber gear. Flight cap and goggles, heavy turtleneck sweater, thick insulated pilot trousers, leather bomber jacket, insulated boots and gauntlets. Over that goes the harness for the shoulder armor, flight mask and parachute. Finally a gunbelt with a Model 58 revolver.
Kingdom Royal Armory Model 58 Revolver:
Standard sidearm for Gryphon armed forces. Its a 44 caliber revolver with an underslung barrel. I basically mated two weapons I really like the look of, the Remington 1858 New Army and Mateba Autorevolver. The hammer might technically be a little out of place but it looked silly if I adjusted it.
Knight:
Basically I got irritated with silly ass fantasy armor and decided to draw something a little more functional. It's still very WIP, and I'll get round to finishing her later. I'm considerin' drawing up some pictures of the various wards from Hans Talhoffer and I might use her as the model. As pictured she is in sort of a loose stance for half sword not sorta between plow and fools ward.
VIA inspired fighter:
Not particularly stoked with how it came out, but I drew it so I figured I should put it up.

a lot of the WWI battleships experimented with turret placement especially pre-dreadnoughts
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleship#Pre-dreadnought_battleship
so some novel placments arrived, i believe center line was avoided for many early designs for fear of capsizing on a full broadside salvo
-
You assume I don't know this stuff. And no, actually it was just because the designers were idiots used to having two broadside main batteries. :P
-
Cool revolver. sorta looks like a non-auto version of a Mateba Unica 6.
Here's a plastic replica of a customized one used in some anime. http://web.kyoto-inet.or.jp/org/seburo/2F/ithaqua/ith01.html
The Mateba MTR-8 is another weird, low barrel revolver design. It has the cylinder in front of the trigger guard but is not a low barrel design, though the barrel is lower than on most conventional automatics. http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg185-e.htm
Some guns from various anime, some exact copies of real guns, some slightly or highly modified and some total fantasy. http://crimsonsguns.tripod.com/animeguns.html
-
Not bad (better faces than I can do) but you need to work on your line quality. Try using something like prismacolour col-erase photosafe blue for the initial sketch and then go over it with 2B or whatever you use. That way you final sketch won't have those sketchy lines in it like the one chick's arm.
One thing you might want to try as well is to use Letraset Promarkers to do your shading (or even your initial sketches). Designs can turn out quite nice that way.
-
I'll keep that in mind, tbh I'm just using a .5mm mechanical and occasionally a No 2 pencil to shade things I don't have much in the way of formal training . Though I suppose it might be worth investing a little effort in getting better :D

Well your anatomy and your detailing are pretty good. I can't draw humies that good yet unfortunately and I'm prone to never doing a finished drawing, I always just do rough sketches. You've also got a pretty good handle on perspective.
But from one artist to another I'd say keep challenging yourself, keep growing.

Its my baby
(http://i38.tinypic.com/2yjxytc.jpg)
I gotta admit I really love this bird even if it is somewhat over the top. Tractor/Pusher V12 liquid-cooled aero-engines turning contra rotating props. Two synchronized 20mm cannons in the nose and three 50 caliber machine guns in each wing. I took elements from the P-51 Mustang, Westland Wyvern, F4U Corsair and Do 335 Arrow putting her together.
You can listen to this while you look at her.

-
The Pushmi-pullyu of planes? :p
-
Erm not exactly. While I don't think tractor/pusher and contra rotating props were ever put together on the same chassis both are proven concepts:
-
Given the weight of the two engines and double prop mechanisms, the wings should be bigger to make it able to take off from a normal runway :P
Awesome drawing though, as always
-
I think it's meant to just flop off the end of one of those atmos-carriers ;)
-
Very cool concept on the latest drawing. Looks like it'd be right at home in "The Sky Crawlers".
One thing though, no way would synchronized guns be possible with contra-rotating, four bladed propellers. North American couldn't make them work with one four bladed prop on the Mustang, which is why the P-51 versions with that prop only had wing guns.
Search YouTube for Jon Gnagy. There's a few episodes of his "Learn to Draw" show from the 1950's on there. Other good YouTube searches, learn to draw and how to draw, followed by the subject you're interested in, like airplanes, aircraft, perspective etc.
There was another guy with a TV drawing show I used to watch on PBS in the 70's, but I can't remember his name or the name of the show. He used pencils and charcoal like Jon Gnagy.

I just knocked this out in about 45 minutes. What do you think so far?
I'd like to see what someone else makes out of it based on your drawing, so I'm attaching the model as it is right now.

Roll out the power carts! Jump starting the art. Here is my kick off project, North American P-51B Mustang.

Very nice Mustang! Refreshing to see one that's NOT the D model. Very few pre-D P-51 planes exist these days.

While Freespace 2 was pretty amazing game I was never to jazzed about the Terran Fighter designs for the FS2 era. Blasphemy I know. The Great War era craft where pretty iconic and look like functional bad ass birds but in FS2 :v-old: went a little off the wall IMHO. So on a whim I decided profane the gods and do my take on some of the GTVA's stable. I tried to work the functional look of the FS1 designs back into the ships as well as give them a unified F-22/35 texture look.

-
Deimos Mk II? I need to learn to draw, I struggle with modelling stuff efficiently at the moment because I can't visualise it properly; if you can draw it, it is easier to model... :)
-
That nose reminds me of some of the Moscow iterations.
-
I know this is kind of a necro, but as an aspiring pencil artist...
Holy crap. This is some really fantastic stuff. I love the reimagining of the FS2 ships especially. I love razor and sawtooth edges and aggressive designs. There's a menace in the lines, a subtle threat in the form, and when you're discussing war machines...that's a good thing.

I approve of the broader vertical stabilizer and the properly lengthy nose, as well as the broader missile launchers.
I would change the cannon mounts, however. Also, being a traditionalist, I'm not sure I like the nose broken up as it is, though it's irrefutably a neat concept. One or two crewmen?
-
Yeah I did a quick edit to the sketch and merged the cockpit armor to the main hull and it looks pretty good. I originally was planning on the rotary mount Lambda style lasers but was a bit pressed for space so I went with TIE style nubs. If I keep the motivation going I'll see about putting together some orthos.
-
It is shiney. I approve. (Though knowing you, I'm surprised some of the missile tubes aren't obviously empty, what with the dead corvette.)

Isn't he a little short to be a
stormtrooper legionary?
That's very cool though, I like the chain mail effect.
-
We'll I was looking to make him a bit more stocky to depict a legionary from the Roma proper as opposed to one of the big bastards they could recruit from Germania or Gual provinces. The mail was done by splitting the hauberk with a series of light horizontal lines basically to frame the rings, then I alternated which side of the ring was highlighted row by row.
