Huhu,
I want to introduce Xfire as possibility to meet up for MP games.

I have already created the Freespace2 Community (http://de.xfire.com/clans/freespace2/) group.
CHATROOM: "freespace2"

But I first will tell you about xfire, its feature and how you can get which things running.

Xfire is an Instant Messenger (like ICQ or MSN) with an "Ingame Chat" ability. That means, you can chat with other people while playing your games. Thereover, it also has features like chatrooms, gamestats, miniprofile, voice chat, auto screenshot and video uploads, auto patch downloads, server browser and much more. Try it out! (You can disable the features you don't like)

There is a workaround for xfire ingame out there, check out the xfire group news. (haven't tested it after an update, though)

how come we never see any of you in the multiplayer games on wednesday or saturday nights?

or even on thursdays for TBP


how about you come an play with us and contribute to he multiplayer scene that is always lacking members?

<- Yeah, I shall play the game again a bit I guess :/

-> I don't have that much influence inside the group, and even while I haven't played FS2 the last months I feel responsible for the projects I started, and this include the xfire group.

I'll second what andi said. There is an active, albeit small, MP community that meets via HLP or the #hard-light (http://irc://irc.esper.net/hard-light) IRC channel. Personally, I won't be installing something like XFire, just for FS alone (FS and associated mods are the only thing I play online right now) Scratch that, I'll install it and act as a go-between for the time being.

Also, you might want to consider updating the news every once in a while.

Eh...I should do. Btw any volunteer here who want to help me with that? ^^
(You would just need to install Xfire for a short time, recieve invitation, uninstall Xfire and you should be able to edit the news entries as well)

It declares the browser that an external application should be used, in this case of course Xfire.

I dunno if anyone else did this, but I went into my xfire_games.ini file and put this at the end:

InGameRenderer=OGLI derived it from a topic in Xfire's forums vouching for FS2 support.
Changes are the LauncherExe (original used an OLD version of FS2 Open.. dunno if this makes any difference because I didn't wanna take chances) and added "InGameRenderer=OGL", where OGL can also be D3D8 depending on renderer (with my settings I have little to no difference because the latest MediaVPs don't work well with my POS craptop computer).
I have no clue if the registries are correct. What I ended up having to do was manually selecting the EXE. After doing everything, though, it all works!
Ingame works, too. I was testing out broadcasting last night, and even had some viewers.
