Title: What's with already done materials?
Post by: shiv on December 31, 2006, 09:54:24 am
Will you publish your models/skyboxes ect.

Project is dead, but models are pretty good and it could be used by other moders/freders :)

Yes! I'm sure many people would just absolutely hug your stuff. I've looked at your tech database, and I see some QUALITY stuff. I cant believe you actually have TANKS in FreeSpace! I was impressed. Good job, guys.

And you are dead right?

You could have not typed that last sentence...

Anyway, I am shocked and saddened by this turn of events (I was like where is the 158th section? Archived,WTF???)

I had long looked forward to this project's completeion (not just because I voiced 2-3 missions for it).

I agree that if possible, could whoever has the dev files please consider a release as a public dump. That is if you can get a consensus from reachable team members...

My sincere condolences on this event...

Yea, I was really impressed with the stuff you guys put together for this mod. I was hoping that at least something would've eventually been released.

I would REALLY like to get my hands on that high-altitude planet skybox... You guys should release the custom content. :wtf:

I for one would love to see these MODs released, too.

For what it's worth, I'm perfectly fine with releasing the models (hell, I can release the untextured meshes any time I suppose. I modelled 90% of them.)

If you'd release them entire community will be happy! :)

You can release stuff without condemning the MOD to death. That's the point. ;)

He is releasing the stuff?
Cool.

Mikhael -If you would do that, it would be great! (also it would be the only real reply since I asked the question nearly a year ago). I'm sure someone in the community would eventually re-texture them at some point or we coudl do it ourselves if they are uv mapped already. (simply try new textures in mapped material slots).

I would be curious for all the other resources you might have access to also (effects, maps, ect) if you can get ahold of whoever you need to for final authority, or lacking that as last active member take charge yourself as defactor leader-community rep then?

A 158th modpack would be awesome like was done for: SAH, OTT and also DaBrain...

Mobius - As for condeming a mod "to death", look at where it is now the Archived boards kicked off the Hosted list. It pains me to say it, but aside from deletion it can't get much deaded than that.

I have not said I would release the assets. I will consider it. I will also make an attempt to contact Narol and Spicious about it.

If I do release any assets that I have in my possession, I would be releasing only Lightwave models. There would be no UVs, no textures. The Meshes include LODs, Shields and debris, but that's about it.

There are a few models that I can release unambiguously and unfettered. The SF Naga, for example, predates my involvement with the 158th and I consider [the mesh] mine free and clear.

Have you been able to contact any of them?

My point is that releasing stuff doesn't necessarily mean condemning the MOD to death, at least not in a definitive way.

There's nothing wrong in releasing the models and continue with the MOD(should it regain life, it happened before), possibly in a second moment :)

*nudge* Any news?

Were some people successful in scavenging things from that MOD?

Who knows, It could be brought back to life again afterwards (this would be great).

Please do not make this MOD die completely as it is most promising, just let it freeze in a very long cryogenic process instead  ;) ,so that it may be re-awaikened/completed later.

Thanks for taking this into account.

best regards.

mike.

Well, as I see it, this mod has been worked on for a number of years, time, patients and a lot of effort has been put into it.
If they let it go to waste, then all that time, effort was uselessly wasted, and for what I ask?
Haven`t enough people posted, to show concern for its continuation...
Well?!?
Anyway, hopefully, wishfull thinking.

But I actually DO wish for it to continue, as it does look simply astonding in addition to being outright atypical.

However, if the persons responsible for this MOD DO confirm that it is indeed dead, It would be I think best to preserve the work already made in order perhaps at some point to resurrect it, instead to let it die and be forgotten completely. Let's all take advantage of what has been done.

However, should this MOD be still alive (perhaps) and work still being done on it, then of course, by all means, keep the files. But please do inform the community about future plans or developpments.

sincerely yours.

starlord.

That sucks, I did 4 missions of voice acting (I think) and didn't start keeping copies till after I participated Raider Wars.

I was looking forward to how the missions would play out.

Still nothing to share to the community, I suppose? Pity: after all, we all once thought the apocalypse project was dead too. This MOD could one day be brought to life again. and it would be better that day not to start again from scratch. ;)

:bump:
Sorry to bump this, but mikhael has not bee active since like October. I don't think that he will be checking back for a while unless some one can email him and get in contact with the other moderators of the 158th.

I tried my best to send PMs but no answer so far. Need help! Who knows, the project might be reborn one day like the apocalypse project. Any advice?

Wow, this would be great! But since things have been done already, it would be good to find those.

EDIT by thesizzler: I am a moderator!

I tried to email and PM just about any 158th banshees creator and I STILL don't have any reply! Any advice you could give me on joining them or warning them?

If only they could just take a peep at that thread...
