Title: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: karajorma on August 28, 2008, 09:10:32 am
Does anyone still play?

http://www.kingdomofloathing.com

Cause the Hard Light Clan is kinda empty.

I quit KoL about six months before I joined HL. The RNG kept angering me.

I probably still have an account, just have so many things to do in one day already that I don't know if I'd have time to add KoL back to them ;)

Well it's mostly a single player game but the main reason I want to recruit is that Shade and myself want to have a go at Hobopolis and that gets better with more players. :)

Had that problem myself, and actually quit for a while because things started taking too long after an update broke all my time-saving Greasemonkey scripts. Now, though, thing are working again and blowing through ~180 turns takes only thirty minutes to an hour if I'm not too concerned about maximum efficiency :) Of course, setting that up just right also takes time...

Oh, and about Hobopolis, someone bought that shield I put up for sale (and for way more than I expected to get for it... apparently someone needed one really really fast and was very desperate :p) so we've got the money for a basement now :D

I'll give it another go.

::EDIT::

Gotta love that 60-day deletion policy. First time 'BloodEagle' hasn't been taken in a game.

Nice to see the ranks swelling a bit :) If any of you need any buffs or what not to help speed an ascension, just mention it in the clan chat or through a PM and I'll see what I can do. I have most buffs available to me, and I believe Karajorma does as well, so we should be able to help out a fair bit if you want it. Also, once I get out of Hardcore, I'll see about adding some decent food and booze to the stash so you have less stuff to worry about on your first run.

Another thing, once you get to the high levels (and by high, I mean 15+), we've got a cool new guild area to play with - A basement with our very own personal dungeon, which is very challenging even at high levels - I personally had to resort to using stat potions at level 16-17 just to survive in one of the sub areas. And it's a cooperative dungeon, meaning we can help eachother progress through it and our kills all add up towards the total we need to access the bosses... bosses which drop some of the greatest items in the game. So there's some incentive to level up :D

Good point. I'll add some later today. I have all kinds of stuff I'll probably never eat.

Well, I accidentally mis-calculated my booze consumption, and ended up with 16 drunkenness. I believe 15 is falling-down, right? Anyway, that was 7 hours ago. How long does falling-down last? W/e. I'll just go check.

If the 40+ adventures you get every day put you over 200 adventures you should burn off the extras in either the clan gym or the special area opened up by your zodiac sign or they are wasted. Otherwise you simply wait until tomorrow. :)

You need to have at least 10 adventures left to go into the sewers because one adventure can cost you 10 adventures.

That aside, I'd also advise not going there until you've gained some more levels. It is, ah, painful :p

[Edit] Speaking of the dungeon, managed to open up the cold area today. Have fun :) Seems to have a higher hobo nickel drop rate than the town square, too.

I have about 300 adventures to spare. Although I want to spend some fighting dooks (for money) and some where ever I have to go for filthy lucre today. I can leave the cold boss open though if you think you can face him.

El Dia de Los Muertos Borrachos!

Today only, you can see ghosts and kill them, ie- "steal the spirits, spirits" I've got a Corpsedriver, but i accidentally got smashed on Whiskey Sours :nervous: so can't try it, or earn any others. on the bright side, i got myself a blood faced volleyball, a Vorpal blade i can't seem to use, and a pair of funky 1337 7r0uZ0RZ
that i can't wear either....despite none of the items displaying a needed level.

must need levelling up i guess.

Also, it's a weird question i know, but does anyone have a surplus of rotten brains?
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing

You mean disembodied brains? Might have one of those lying around if that's what you need. As for the message board, the old system got scrapped and replaced with a new one at some point and our board went with it - Just haven't gotten the new one. Seems like a cheap enough addition though... infact, it looks like the first board is free, so I'll set one up.

I'll try to send some over when I next log on. Unfortunately I've been having to use massive amounts of mana in order to do less damage to the Hobos (yes you read that correctly - As a 31st level character I do so much damage with each hit that I'm triggering a side effect I don't want instead of being able to gather up the items I do want). :D

How's about I just add a Soft Green Echo whatever to the clan stash so that you can simply remove the effect instead? :D

The best way (the one with the best rewards) is:

You do that for both sides.

Chances are that your workplace (your trying from your workplace, right?) connects through a proxy which blocks KoL. You could try a free proxy, if they are stupid enough to let you change it.

Since the Hobolord is dead it's time to divide the loot and fill in the basement. I've got no problems digging it back out again once I've done that.

Loot will be distributed amongst those who made a major contribution in Hobopolis, which to my mind works out as myself, Shade and Blood Eagle. A few others poked their noses in but didn't manage to do much this round. So Shade and Blood Eagle, is there anything you particularly want out of the loot?

It's all amazingly good so having to single something out is hard... I want it all :p But anyway... the Bow Tie is particularly nice, but that thing's *so* good compared to the rest that we should probably let chance decide who gets it. Other than that, the Wand of Oscus looks very appealing since I'll be doing a pastamancer run soon, and Chester's Bag of Candy for the same reason since DB is also on the 'do soon' list :)

Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing

You could make grenades (moxie), bandages (mysticality), and protein powder (muscle).

A grenade will stun a hobo for 3 or 4 rounds.

Bandages heal approximately 500 (I've seen it go as high as 570) HP.

Protein powder does approximately 120 damage (from what little I've seen).

Making them gives a fair amount of stat points.

----

By the way, I can one-hit hobos with my best spell, now.  :D

That's certainly not the order I would do it in.  Amphibian Sympathy is a highly important skill. In fact it's the first non food/booze skill you should perm. A passive 5% increase in your familiar's level is very, very useful. Spend 10 turns and 1000 meat at the cake arena and you can have a level 9-11 familiar instantly. And that's nothing to be sniffed at since if you adventure with the volleyball you'll go up in level pretty quickly that way.

And I still don't have the Flavour of Magic or Spirit of Rigatoni IIRC :D

My advice would be to grab the item and meat skills next. The two passive skills from the gnomes will give give a 20% boost forever. Depending on how much you like your money and items you might want the two non-passives too.

And I highly recommend building up a good store of skills before going Oxy. The other two aren't bad but without a good set of skills Oxy will be an enormous drain of time.

Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing

I can't kill the bastard. With super-ungodly-theoneone fire resistance, his attacks do: around 40, around 280, and around 380 (my health is around 360). The most damage I ever did was around 5600, and he was spamming his weak attacks.
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: Shade on October 27, 2008, 10:44:47 am
Ah, yeah, that low health will cause problems against some bosses. You might boost it fairly high with reagent potions though... try using, in order, a Tomato Juice of Powerful Power (tomato + scrumptious reagent), an Ointment of the Occult (grapefruit + scrumptious reagent), and finally an Oil of Expertise (cherry + scrumptious reagent). That should boost your muscle enough to seriously improve your survivability.

Also, if you don't have it yet, the Exotic Parrot from the Black Market will increase your resistences as it increases in weight, and may allow you to survive another round or two.
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing

How much?
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: Shade on October 27, 2008, 01:59:47 pm
It increases one resistance type by one level for every 4lbs, cycling through hot, cold, spooky, stench and sleaze in that order. Each resistance level if cumulative with all previous levels. So at 20lbs, it gives one resistance level in each of the five elements, and 40lbs it gives 2 level in everything.

Adventure whichever will give you the higher stat and meat gains without killing you. :) If you choose the valley make 3133t scrolls as they can be used to get ten leaved clovers from the hermit. You might also with to try grinding in the Menagerie Level 3 as the booze drops there are pretty high.

It's in the Cobb Knobb Lab. If you can't handle the Penultimate Fantasy Airship, then I reccommend the Cobb Knobb's Treasury, as you get high meat-drops.

I also reccommend eating Unidentified Jerky (7 a day, plus one food item that adds only '1' to hunger), if you don't have a lot of meat.

Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: karajorma on November 15, 2008, 05:45:35 pm
Nah. I don't mind paying for it if I'm getting the benefits of it. The problem is that I paid half of it this time round and then ascended almost immediately afterwards. So as a result if Blood Eagle clears the whole of hobopolis singlehandedly then I've paid 500,000 meat with nothing to show for it.

By the time you've got a character who can make a significant dent in Hobopolis you've probably got a fair bit of meat anyway. 1 Million isn't that hard to raise. I could probably make that much in 4-5 days if I did nothing but farm for meat.

I kinda wish I'd kept all my fat stacks of cash now. They're worth a fortune on the market (as are briefcases) at the moment.

As an aside I had to get myself a greasemonkey script to automate the Crimbo zone cause last night I spent over 400 adventures there. I have no idea how people can play KoL without KoLMafia or Greasemonkey to be honest.

That said I managed to go up an entire level in one day (which is saying something when you're level 22). Used up a ridiculous number of cans of silly string though.

Well, that's it for Hobopolis this time round. Luckily Hodgman wasn't as stingy with his loot as the sub-bosses were, and gave up two vault items, a book (Link (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Hodgman%27s_journal_4:_View_From_The_Big_Top) - it's tradeable so I'll send it to Kara), as well as some flasks of booze - 3 of those in fact, so one for each :D

[Edit] It seems the skill given by the book is *not* marked as Hardcore Permanent when you get it, so it has to be permed on ascension. Just so whoever gets the book is aware of this and doesn't waste it.

Does anyone have anything they particularly want? I was planning to do an AT run next and none of that stuff (apart from Hodgman's) is of any use to me so you might as well take first pick guys.

Do remember that me and Shade paid for this run and will probably have to pay for the next one too though. :p
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing

All I want is Ol' Scratch's ol' britches. And I have 625k, now.
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: Shade on December 14, 2008, 10:57:45 pm
Interested in Hodgman stuff obviously, book or hat in particular as I've got no hobo power yet. As for the rest, nothing this time round that really strikes my fancy - Got the bag of candy and wand last time, and my next run will likely be as a Pastamancer so nothing left that'll help.

Oh, and for making money, remember to hit the duck farm every day with a meat-drop familiar equipped. Those things can give 10k easy per day just for the 15 turns, and maybe as much as 20k if you're buffed up beyond all reason.
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: karajorma on December 15, 2008, 04:30:36 am
Yeah. If I use 10 turns of Mick Inhaler I can quite easily farm around 20k there. And it's even higher now that I've got myself a scratch 'n' sniff sword.

But even without that stuff you can still get a fair chunk of meat from there and the Giant Castle.

I'll have a look what everyone got. I think two items each for me and Shade and 3 for Blood Eagle seems fair especially if those getting two take Hodgeman's stuff.

The main question becomes when should we flood Hobopolis and dig it out again? Right now I'd rather spend my turns in Crimbo Town so if no one is going down there we might as well wait.

Those monsters scale to your stats... so no matter how high you go, it won't help :nervous: There are a few things you can do to tilt things in your favour though:

First, forget about boosting stats, particularly Moxie... ideally, your Moxie should be the same level as your Muscle or lower - This will effectively lower the monsters' level as the stats they scale to are lower. Second, equip the highest-power armour you have, regardless of other bonuses, as this will migitate a fair amount of damage. Third, use any buffs or equipment that directly boosts damage without also improving stats, as this will let you kill them faster without them gaining levels. And fourth, use a deleveling familiar like a Barrnacle.

[Edit] Also, just sent some buffs your way that should hopefully help some.

Yep, same here (well, no snowcones... I've got more than enough mana for a day of LTS just using the three massages from the war sidequest). Works well when you have a bunch of ascensions... LTS is not really a viable strategy for a DB with no ascensions yet, though :p

See, the problem is, I've used up a lot of adventures on the hoboflex due to lack of time. So we are way, way, above, but I can't reliably land a hit and a single combat chews through about half my hitpoints.

You can use the gym equipment during a BM run. I haven't tried the jukebox, and would imagine that it doesn't work.

Only ten items here, but then I spent time doing bounties and meatfarming/shoring too. However, I finally got the last trophy I was aiming for this run (and boy did that take a while), so now all I have to do is get another three moxie for level thirty and jump through the gash :D I do hope I can remember how to play at low levels, cause it sure has been a while :p

Oh, and I suppose since Crimbo is over (for real this time) we should be getting together the cash to reflood the sewers again. Personally I've got about 500k saved up now that can go towards it. Oh, and the loot from last time still needs distributing. Mustn't forget that.

Hey, it's not so bad... it's what I do :p I can recommend using Greasemonkey and some of the scripts listed Here (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/List_of_all_Greasemonkey_Scripts_(Categorized)) to make your life easier until you can destaticify your resident mob penguins. Came across a link on the KoL forums that might be useful if we can't figure out how to distribute Hobopolis loot (though I don't see this happening... requires more greed than is present in our little clan :p), or even just for saving time: Automated Hobopolis Loot Distributor (http://erikdev.com/parser/), Forum Thread (http://forums.kingdomofloathing.com/vb/showthread.php?t=166383), Example Wishlist (http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pBPW6O96bMMtgtK7f4S24DA)
Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: Shade on February 10, 2009, 11:45:37 am
Well, I'm thinking that with christmas well and truly over, it's about time for another Hobopolis run. Now, Kara's level 30 already so should probably give him time to ascend and level up a bit before flooding the sewers, while BloodEagle and I are probably still some weeks away from ascending ourselves if we're both going for level 30. So, a little over a week from now would probably be a good time to flood the sewers to make sure we're all in a state to participate. But even so, we can at least get the loot from the last run divvied up :D Gave it a bit of thought and have this suggestion:

BloodEagle:
Ol' Scratch's ol' britches
Chester's bag of candy
Wand of Oscus
Zombo's skullcap

Karajorma:
Hodgman's harmonica
Skill book

Shade:
Hodgman's porkpie hat
Frosty's nailbat

BloodEagle put in the most turns while Kara and I paid for the run. So BE gets the item he wants plus some extra goodies, I get the +Hobo-Power item since Kara got the one from the last run, Kara gets the Hobo-Power conversion offhand since I got the one from the last run, and then he and split the scraps. If everyone's satisfied with this, I'll hand it out in a couple of days. If not, then complain loudly here and I'll come up with some other distribution :p

Seems good to me. Sorry I haven't divvied up the loot yet but the simple fact is that I seem to only find time to play KoL for about the 10-15 minutes it takes to do a meat farming run.

No worries, I don't recall us having a rule saying that you have to do everything :D Although, if you're not going to be ascending for a while, maybe we should open up the new instance now so you can farm for nickles as well? Not to mention getting some loot out of it at the end, of course. And as far as I can tell, the elemental zones don't care about overkilling the monsters, so you can get them there even at level 30 without having to worry about doing too much damage.

The Hobos are dead, time to distribute the loot. Using the automated loot distributor gives me this

Zhade   #1 of 4 (3098 turns)
Thrangor The Cold   #2 of 4 (1517 turns)
BloodEagle   #3 of 4 (888 turns)

Although that doesn't take into account who paid for this run (I can't actually remember if I put any cash in but I'm sure Shade did). Does anyone see anything they particularly want? I wouldn't mind Ol' Scratch's ol' britches ahead of my basement run but apart from that I'm fine.

I've not had the time to try it yet. I might spend some turns on it tomorrow.

Of course the big question is what the hell do we do about this Month's IotM? I mean it requires 3 Mr A's between us somehow. I currently have one and I'm farming a lot so I might be able to dredge up the 4-5 million for another but with Shade AWOL I don't know how I'll ever afford the 3rd one unless I sell something.

I've been too busy the past month to really do anything, though I've some free time coming up. I have roughly 780k in raw meat at the moment, and I can probably scrape together another 0.8 million by lowering my mall prices (I really don't want to do this) and adding some stuff to it. :/

I wonder how much the new dwarvish gear is going for....

:EDIT:

Nevermind, I just checked, it can't be traded.  :blah:

::EDIT::

I removed a bunch of stuff that wasn't selling, and auto-sold it all. I'm up to 1 million, now.

Well, I haven't had as much time (or inclination) as I thought that I would, so I'm nowhere near the price of a Mr. A. I'll end up getting the key some other time.

Do you need any meat, or did you manage to get enough for the new area?

I'm slowly working my way down. After I figured out that the slime-creation thing doesn't reset (which kind of irks me), I Noblesse Oblige-d myself an aria of annoyance, since the slime hole doesn't give out any worthwhile statistics/adventure like Hobopolis does.

I'll pay for the next run (as it isn't expensive), and rather than go for slime items we could go for the turn-limited stuff.

::EDIT::

I don't think chamois will stick around for the next run if it isn't balled up, and after +100 ML the slimes don't like to drop it.

So I've become clan leader due to inactivity.

I've bundled the chamoix (we have five bundles, now) and stored it in the stash.

I've reached The Mother Slime. And she/it hurts. A lot. With moderate slime protection, she/it one-shots me for a good 590 damage.  :ick:  So unless I can find some more slime-protecting items, I can't kill her/it.

On another note: I think something big is going to go down soon. There are earthquakes and floating rocks everywhere.

Spoiler:
To Wossname it, you have to kill all but one of the soldiers on both sides of the war. Then, with a flaregun in your inventory, adventure there (without a war costume, I believe). Then fire the flaregun. You'll wipe out both sides of the war (locking off the arena for that ascension)*, in exchange for a slightly better reward.

*You'll actually lock off the arena if you kill a certain number of troops (80%?) on the side that holds the arena.

You have to count, because the monkeyscript for the island doesn't work. :/

There's a chart on Coldfront's wiki that helps (as every optional quest you complete lowers the number of needed adventures), but you still have to count manually.

Honestly, it's easier to take one familiar with no experience or kills (make sure that you don't use the 'like animals' buff from the friars), and (using the familiar for only one side of the war) track your adventure usage that way.

Spoiler:
There are 1000 troops on each side. So if you wait to do the quests until the very end, you would have to use 999 adventures for each side, then adventure the final time out of costume and with the flaregun.

If you adventure there 100+ (?) times and return the next year, you get a piece of equipment (it's junk). If you get all three, and equip them all, it forms an outfit. Talking to the pretentious painter with an outfit on gives you a new tattoo.

So unless you're going for a 100% completion (impossible) rate, there's no point to waste the adventures.

Oh, and the Halloween Event items suck. I'm not even going to use the chest, it has more value as a collector's item.

::EDIT::

HAH! Figures they'd pull a no-adventure event.

Editorial: The Only Good Wizard is a Dead Wizard
by Mark Led Lush

In the past, this newspaper has expressed a strong anti-magic stance that may have offended some of our readers. We deeply apologize for those past bad acts, and, by way of reconciliation, we offer this hearty endorsement of the Festival of Jarlsberg. As the streets are flooded with well-wishers, vendors, and louts, let us remember why we celebrate.

Accounts of Jarlsberg's life, as sketchy and unreliable as they are, indicate that he was an excellent man as well as a powerful wizard. His alleged good humor and his alleged charity and goodwill towards his fellow man are reason enough to celebrate him. Most importantly, though, Jarlsberg is dead, and has been dead for many years.

We encourage all magic users in the Kingdom to seek to emulate their hero in all possible ways as they make merry on this Festival of Jarlsberg. Let us all raise a glass for his sterling example.

Killed the boss slime monster in the basement, so there be loot to distribute :D A rather impressive hat (Hardened Slime Hat (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Hardened_slime_hat)) and a yucky gland (Slime-soaked sweat gland (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Slime-soaked_sweat_gland)). You guys can work it out among yourselves if you want since I didn't do any of the work to actually clear the place. That said, if anyone wants to trade a piece of hobopolis loot for that sweat gland, I'd be willing to talk, since we also have plenty of that still to be distributed ;)

I do intend to start another run at it as soon as those are distributed so I can get in on the action, though, and apparently I can't do so while there's still loot to hand out so don't take too long to figure out who gets what :p

I could assign you Ol' Scratch's ol' britches (http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/Ol'_Scratch's_ol'_britches), of which we have one, and which according to the KoL wiki can be zapped into the ash can. How does that sound? All you'd need is a wand from the Dungeons of Doom and enough patience to get the result you want without exploding the wand :)

Well, BloodEagle has what he wants (or at least can zap what he got into what he wants), Karajorma is going on holiday and noone else seems to care, so just going to distribute the rest (while trying to avoid any duplicates for anyone), and then open up the dungeons again so we can get MORE LOOT! :D

Classy.

Quote
Dear ngtm1r,

Okay, I'm not good at this kind of thing, but I feel like I have to give it a try. So, here goes:

I was hanging out the other night, listening to some old mp3s, and I was just overcome with memories of when we used to hang out all the time. Remember? You were an intrepid, fearless adventurer, and I was the free-to-play, fun-and-funny online role-playing game that won your heart. Do you still remember those good times? I can't stop thinking about them.

I mean, I know things got kind of messed up at the end, and believe me, I'm sorry. If I could take any of that back, I totally would. And I know people grow and change, and you're not the same person you were then, but hey -- I've changed, too! I thought and thought about how to win you back. I figured I'd make you a mix CD, but I couldn't decide what "our song" was. So I just concentrated on becoming a better game for you, and here's what I came up with:

Remember how much fun you used to have with your clan? Alternately, remember how you never joined a clan because you didn't see the point? Either way, clans now have clan dungeons, group zones where your whole clan can work together. Crawl through sewers to Hobopolis, a vast underground vagrant vacation vista! Slide into the slime tube, and stir-fry sassy slimes!

I know I wasn't the prettiest game when we were together, so I had some work done. Almost every interface got an interface-lift. You can even manage most of your inventory via chat commands! I also came up with a way for you to automate some of the things you don't love about the game, so you can spend more time with the parts you do love.

Not only that, but there are way more animated .gifs than there were before. Don't worry; I haven't lost that low-fi edginess you love, but I'm a lot easier to play with now.

You can also have a custom title now, just in case you didn't feel like I appreciated what made you unique as an individual.

I should also say
Haiku Dungeon's been revamped.
See what I did there?

Maybe you quit because you got sick of always adventuring above the water. I admit that seems unlikely, but I fixed that, too -- there are a bunch of underwater zones with new food, equipment, mechanics, and challenges.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg, trust me. I'm still the silly, clever, deceptively-complex game you fell in love with, only with about 95% more awesome.

So, I'm just sayin', if you can find it in your heart to give me another chance, I won't disappoint you.

If you don't drop by, I promise I won't bother you again. I just really felt like we deserved one more try.

Love,

The Kingdom of Loathing.

Crimbo items this year look interesting. All of them seem to grant skills, although you have to perm them like a normal ascension skill if you want to keep them for later. Not the greatest skills, but not useless either. And skills alone are a lot better than the recurring gift set that has been used (albeit with a new paint job each year) for every crimbo I've seen until now :)

Also, a new clan furnishing if you gather enough scrips. Gonna see if I can manage to snag one for us while also grabbing the skill books.

Same. Can't spare any. However, I somehow doubt that the new area is just a one-off for this crimbo. Sure, it'll shut down on the 25th, but I'm fairly convinced it'll open up again next year. Besides, the CRIMBCO skill books are more interesting :)

Oh, and more Crimbo stuff: Make sure to grab some paperclips, as multi-using 25 of them gives you a set of pants that give two extra rollover adventures. People with time trousers excepted, of course.

New! From Uncle Crimbo
Date: Saturday, January 15, 2011, 11:03AM

Hey, kid, the elves were going through Mr. Mination's files, and we saw that you were pretty generous with this whole Covert Crimbo thing, and maybe the person who was buying you gifts, not so much.

I'm a guy who knows a little something about always giving out presents and not getting much in return, so I figure you could use a little payback. So I thought about having some of my old Mafia penguin buddies pay your CCB a visit, but then I remembered the spirt of the holiday and all that crap, and I just whipped up a sackload of presents for you.

No need to thank me, unless you want to thank me in booze. Nah, just kidding. I've got the elves working hard on building me a distillery, so I'm good.

You acquire an item: Uncle Crimbo's Sack

It's about 600 scrip worth of stuff.

::EDIT::

On checking another character, it appears to scale with what you gave, rather than what you didn't get.

Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: BloodEagle on May 21, 2011, 01:51:44 pm
Yes.  And there are seasonal challenges now, though I'm not sure how many they plan to have.  The current one (listed for Summer 2011) is 'Bees Hate You':

-For every 'b' in your equipped items, take 10% damage.
-You can't use most items with a 'b' in them. (this is the Brutal part)
-Bee-based enemies will attack you every set amount of turns.
-And other, more spoilery stuff.

I'm a level 5 Disco Bandit, so I kind of dropped the ball on this one.

----------------

As an aside, they really killed the purpose of HC-perming, since you no longer have to do any HC runs to HC-perm anything.

Title: Re: Kingdom of Loathing
Post by: BloodEagle on May 22, 2011, 02:23:29 pm
Really? How do you perm stuff on a non-HC perm run?

You spend karma to perm skills.  And karma doesn't reset to zero after you descend.

Softcore perming costs 100, and hardcore perming costs 200, but hardcore perming a skill that's already softcore permed only costs 100.

A softcore run gets you 100 karma, a hardcore run gets you 200, a hardcore bee run gets you 300.  You can discard instant karma for 11 karma.

Oh, by the way, you don't get path rewards until after you kill the NS, and you can't use them until you are level 13.  This doesn't actually affect me all that much, but it still seems kind of 'bleh'.

More like converted, than taken away.

------------

Okay, so unless you're in SC or really far along (say, the pyramid), you can't use any of the normal sleeping aids (which means a flat 5HP/5MP per rest).  That means no NewBie tent, no Barskin tent, no FrizzBo house.

The only one that you can use early on in HC is the cottage, which means that you need anti-cheese (which I haven't gotten, yet).

To get anti-cheese, you have to take a vacation to the dude-ranch area.  If you can't wear shirts, you have a one-in-nine chance of getting the cheese.  If you can (and I can), then you have a one-in-eleven chance.

Taking a vacation costs 500 meat and 3 adventures.

I just finished taking vacation no. 42.  :banghead:

It took 70 trips.  That's 35,000 meat and 240 adventures.  All for one piece of anticheese.

I'm more than half-way to level 10, now.  And I still have to do all of the quests ranging back from the friars.  :ick:

::EDIT::

I forgot that the miner's weapon was two-handed.  Damn it.

::NECRO::

October 15
A big pile of junk mail just got delivered to the basement of every Clan in the Kingdom. At least the ones with basements

I get the feeling that we're about to have a new clan dungeon.  :D

so i get this

Spoiler:
There's a big pile of flyers for some kind of sorority fund-raiser haunted house on the floor. It looks pretty lame.

Luckily, there's a business card on the floor nearby for a flyer-removal company.

McRipoff Recycling Co.

Buried under paper? We'll take it off your hands, and bury it under dirt. Er... sell it to companies who will use it to make environmentally-friendly post-consumer recycled products. It's green!

Just 500,000 Meat

Your clan coffer currently contains 1,001,001 Meat.
what to do what to do?

I say we wait until the traitorous cowards people who took some time off from KoL can work on it with us.

i looked it up on the wiki and aparrently removing the fliers does this

Spoiler:
A team of guys with wheelbarrows make short work of the pile of flyers.

It turns out that underneath the pile, there was actually a coupon for a free group visit to the haunted house. And underneath that is a big map with directions to the house. Maybe you should all go check it out, after all.

I'm really going to have to fight the urge to check out the wiki, on this one.

I've become too dependent on guides.  It's time to get back to my exploratory roots.

And the flyers are gone.

Did I miss something, or was this a limited time only?

well i kind of aquired clan leadership by dekker being absent long enough for his account to go into limbo, and thin i just had to click on the right button to take over. of course i did pay the donation so i dont think my account can go into limbo.

Ah, that's boring. I was imagining an epic battle between a Seal-Clubber and Disco-Bandit. There were seal skulls and martinis everwhere!

CLEAR! *fwoomp*

I started back up about a month ago.

News: There's a new clan dungeon available.  Not sure if anyone else wants to come back just for that, but I figured I'd put the word out there.

Also, Avatar of Boris runs are cheating.
