Title: RELEASE: FS1 Campaign Compilation
Post by: Admiral Nelson on May 08, 2017, 08:29:11 am
The FSCRP team is proud to bring you this rerelease of three classic campaigns for Freespace 1.

Included are The Destiny of Peace, Tango and Eagle Takes Flight!  These three campaigns have been made compatible with the latest version of the FS Port and Media VPs, in addition to bugfixes and quality of life enhancements. The campaigns are presented in a single bundle for ease of use.  Simply choose the FS1 campaign compilation mod in the launcher and then select the specific campaign you'd like to play from the campaign room of the mainhall.

2) ABOUT THE COMPILATION

Campaign Summaries:

The Destiny of Peace
Original Author: Justin Mills
The campaign won Interplay's 1998 Mission Design Contest in the single player category, and was subsequently included in the Silent Threat expansion disc.
The story revolves around an Outpost Traffic cop, aspiring to become a GTA fighter pilot. He gets his chance when he finds himself in the wrong place at the right time. When a rebel faction of GTA mercenaries arises, GTA Command is quick to blame Earth-based anti-colonization groups. Unfortunately for all of humanity, it goes much deeper than that.

Tango
Original Author: Julian Egelstaff
As Terran forces continue to fall back in the face of Shivan might, accompany the veteran pilot, Lieutenant Rhygar, on a front line patrol.  What you discover there could turn the tide of the war, or seal your doom.

Eagle Takes Flight
Original Author:Robert Carroll
This is a 4 mission campaign chronicling the birth of Eagle Security Services, a small mercenary corporation.  This was the first campaign to employ custom weapon ANIs, and one of the earliest to employ TBL changes.
Just released from GTA service due to budget cuts, you and a friend strike out on your own to earn a living. Eagle Security Services Inc. is born and it's going to take a skilled pilot to make your company a success:

You beasts!  Way to go!  Another set of campaigns added to my NEED-TO-PLAY! queue.

I don't know where you guys get the time to do all of this stuff, but it is very much appreciated!

I'm running into a technical problem with the final mission in "Tango".  It's the one where you're supposed to protect the Magi as it docks with the Livingstone.

The Magi docks and after a while it says it has everything.  But it never leaves the Livingstone.  Even after compressing time to x64 and after a couple hours of in-game time, the Magi is still docked and won't leave.

What do I have to do to continue this mission?

Looks like if you are too good a pilot and thoroughly protect the Livingstone the Magi won't undock.  I'll fix it for you shortly so that the Lvingstone always self destructs.

Thank you.  After a certain point I destroyed the Livingstone and thankfully was able to complete the mission.  A fix like you're saying would be better though.

As a minor point, I think you should get the 'good' debriefing music in that mission (assuming you complete all objectives including destroying all Shivans) but that's your call there.

Um, are you sure of the mission count you have listed for Eagle Takes Flight? I've played that one more than once and I'm pretty sure it's longer than FOUR missions.

4 missions.  Never heard of a longer version.  Mad Bomber planned to turn it into a proper campaign in the distant past, but it never materialized AFAIK.

Has the Livingstone 'fix' been put into Tango?

That is so weird. I could have sworn when I played it through last it was longer than that...

A minor problem on "Destiny Of Peace":

In the second mission "No Man's Land" the cruiser Wayward Son is a Leviathan, but in the first mission it is a Fenris.

Good catch.  Turns out it was like this in the original campaign!

Could it get fixed?

There is no way to tell which ship class the original mission designer intended.

Then you can use my Yet another Destiny of Peace Upgrade (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=95012.0) release instead which fixes some chronology errors  :)

There is no way to tell which ship class the original mission designer intended.

Perhaps it was intended to be interchangeable? Fenris cruisers were supposed to become Leviathans and vice versa via quick retrofits? It sounds weird, I know, but it may be an explanation to this inconsistency. After all, these ships used to look exactly the same.

On a side note, I'm playing through these campaigns after... ages. Tango was smooth, and I'm currently playing Destiny of Peace. Eagle Takes Flight results in a crash on startup due to a mainhall setting. 337 non critical warnings are reported by FSO as I run the Port with this mod, but no other issues so far.

Also:  :nervous:

Digging out this one: Every time I try to install it via Knossos it says "fsport-mediavps" is missing, which is not. All of them (!) are installed.

Ideas?

As was mentioned on Discord, this may be because the project requires an old fsport-mediavps package (such as 'mainhalls') that isn't present in newer versions.  You could try installing the exact versions specified in the original release, or see if the original project uploader is around to fix the configuration.

Long-term, ngld is working on some features in the newer version of Knossos that should prevent this from being a problem.

I know "Destiny Of Peace" has got a separate newer release (4.4 FSPort MVP compatibility, etc.).

Will the other two campaigns (Tango and Eagle Takes Flight) get separate newer releases as well (especially Tango to fix the technical error I mentioned earlier in the thread, I also tried playing ETF on FSP 4.4 MVP and it didn't work so a new compatible version would be nice)?

I've put Eagle Takes Flight out on Knossos today; I'll get a fixed Tango added shortly and then delete the old campaign compilation from Knossos.

EDIT: Both are now now available on Knossos, and so I will remove this compilation.

I tried the new separate release for Eagle Takes Flight and so far it plays well (using 4.6MVPs and FSO 22.0), but the HD Mainhalls by MJN don't seem to be used.  Is it possible an update could be made so ETF can use them (like Destiny Of Peace does)?
