I just got addicted to B5 (watched Seasons 1 & 2)...
and thought I'd try this mod.
BTW, how do I get TBP to work on my Mac version of 3.6.9?
I'm stumped.....
-
... Do you have a working FS Open 3.6.9 ?
-
Yes, and I installed the 3.4 beta (and followed the instructions)
-
at first I thought it was this:
* You must NOT have the 3.3a patch .vp in your directory. If it is there, delete it.
but no dice
-
... You could try moving the TBP directory under your FS2 directory, and then running TBP as a mod of FreeSpace. Not sure if that will work, but...
PS You'd have to use the "Mod" tab in the launcher, to do that.
-
I'm on a Mac, but I know the cmd to run mods though :)
-
Another CTD
This is frustrating...... I could've sworn I followed the instructions to the letter.......... GRRR
-
... Umm, OS X Launcher Thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,44568.0.html). Try that.
-
woah, I didn't realize there was an OSX launcher!
I'll try it......
<edit>
Nope. :(
-
...So, you've got the OS X build, and the OS X Launcher, and FS SCP works, but Babylon won't?
-
Correct on all counts.
<edit>
Heres a screenie of my TBP folder and the mod.ini
http://img356.imageshack.us/img356/2706/omfgqu3.png
-
... and you tried running it from under your FS2 dir, using the Launcher to configure TBP as a mod? in other words, you'd have C:\Games\FreeSpace2\TBP
and your mod would be TBP ?
-
correct
-
And, you are using the fs2_open_3_6_9 executable (the one you normally use for FS_Open)?
-
Yes
-
Okay, so if I'm reading this right, the FS Open executable has no problems loading FS Open data, but when instructed to try and load TBP, it crashes? If you still have the archive you downloaded with TBP in it, ask your archive program (I use 7-zip, see the bottom of this (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html) page for info on downloading it.) to do a CRC check ("test") on the file. If you are not sure how to do this, get 7-zip for Mac OS X and open the archive in that. Then, simply click the "test" button. If it comes up broken, or 7-zip refuses to load the file, you probably need to download it again.
-
I already have EZ 7z.... and it says that the .zip is A-Ok
-
Okay, this is just weird.. Try posting this problem elsewhere... your vps are okay, so maybe in
The FreeSpace Source Code Project (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,50.0.html)
or it sub-forum,
Cross-Platform Development (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,113.0.html)
Er, you do have OpenAL installed, right?... Of couse, FS Open works, so of course you do... I'm out of ideas, you need better help than I can give you, I think. I'll give you the link to your first post about the problem here, you can copy-paste it to your post over there:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,45007.msg926933.html#msg926933
-
Awesome, thanks.... I'll post a thread in a bit (as in a day or two).
I'm still holding out hope that its not my system thats causing the problem........
-
posted the thread...

-
Run the debug version and then look in data. Post your FS2_Open.log as an attachment.
-
I can't post it.... the upload folder is full...
the file must be too big... but its only 4kb.... wtf?
-
Get a FileFront account and upload it there, then post a link to that. Or another free file hosting site... Just Google "free file hosting" and there you go.
The upload folder hasn't been working of late.
-
Sorry for the late reply, but what exactly is the problem, just random CTDs ?
Did it run before you installed the 3.4 beta ? What are your system specs ? I can verify that TBP runs just fine on my MacBook.

What, the CTDs or that it runs fine ?

That its runs fine, I never had a problem after I got it to work
-

The folder is actually full.
However you can always just cut and paste the first 30 or so lines and the last 10. That should be all we actually need to figure out what is going on.

Mac OS 10.4.8
2 GHz PowerPC G5
1GB DDR SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9600
SCP runs fine, its just when I load TBP it crashes before it can get to the choose-a-callsign screen
I'll just post it all.

Ah, I think I know what's going on.
ships.tbl(line 99:Warning: Unable to find [Terran] in species names list.
The game tries to use the ships.tbl in the /data/tables folder, but the 3.4 beta comes with its own ships.tbl which references the new species_defs.tbl.
To solve the problem, either delete the ships-tbl in /data/tables, or replace it with the one in the B5-A-Patch-3_4.vp. It's not your fault, I should have pointed that out in the Linux/MacOSX thread.
And before kara starts yelling at me what the ships.tbl was doing there in the first place, it was actually necessary to be there. The 3.3a.vp has a table built for 3.6.7, which isn't compatible with the newer turret animation syntax. So I included an updated table outside of the VP to override the old table.
-
You're entitled to stick tables in Data when you're running as a stand alone mod. It's when you run on top of FS2 that it quickly descends into farce.
-
It works! Thank you SO VERY MUCH, everyone.
Now I have something to tide me over before I have enough money to get Seasons 3, 4, & 5!!!
-
Ok, I started up Raider Wars (the first mission) and this came up:
Error: Invalid ship class name.

What's the rest of that error message?
There should be more.
I'm especially interested if it says the error was in the Order SEXP.
-
That bug is fixed in the patches.
-
my above post is editted, the complete message is there.
and where can I dl the patch(es)?
-
Have you looked at TBP - Proper Installation Procedures (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39708.0.html)
and
TBP on Linux/MacOSX (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,40036.0.html)
?
-
Ummm, it works now (except for RW)..... thanks anyway....
-
Ummm, it works now (except for RW)..... thanks anyway....
I just tried it for myself, I can start the first RW mission without problems, that is with 3.3a though, not the 3.4 beta. Try reverting to 3.3a an check if the problem persists.
You're running the 3.6.9 universal binary, right ?
-
I guess I'll have to release a new RW patch. It's no big deal. I'll put one together tonight.
-
Ummm, it works now (except for RW)..... thanks anyway....
You're running the 3.6.9 universal binary, right ?
Yes, but won't that cause problems with the textures or something?
-
Yes, you'll get black boxes around the particle effects. I'm just trying to narrow the problem down.
If you get the same crash with 3.3a, then there's a problem your TBP installation. If the crash only occurs with the 3.4 beta, then there's someting in the beta that's incompatible with the current Raider Wars version.
Either way, we'll be closer to solving your crashes.
-
ok, I'll try that tomorrow. :)
