Re: What are you playing right now?
For the first two hours it's not that interesting. Then it's complete WTF for the rest of the game.
So on a scale from one to Hatoful Boyfriend, and without spoilers, how big of a WTF are we talking?
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Codethulhu GitHub wgah'nagl fhtagn.

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

When you gaze long into BMPMAN, BMPMAN also gazes into you.

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

Not played that game, but let's just say that Doki Doki makes you agree that you aren't a child or of a nervous disposition before playing.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Finished the first campaign of Just another Day

Command: I don't know, is there a need to always shoot at things?
Alpha One: They are the ones that cancelled Firefly!
Command: Prepare Meson bombs!

It really needs some voice acting though, with everything that's going on I need to recall the message log fairly because it's really easy to miss the jokes with all that's going on on screen.
I also accidentally noticed the music change in the main hall, all the other times I clicked trough things before the new part kicked in.

I just finished Doki Doki after going the extra mile for the best ending and oh yes, it does. Without spoiling anything, this is not your garden variety harem dating sim.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Lately I have played the other two chapters of the Freespace 2 Open parody mod Just Another Day.
It was fun and the jokes gave me a chuckle though in all the confusion I had to bring up the message log as often as with the first chapter because I had serious trouble following the crazy plot during dogfights.
Only the third chapter was a bit less funny to me because there were a bit too many anime references for my taste.

Finished Hellblade, absolutely amazing experience.

Working through Doom (2016), Dota 2 and a XCOM TFTD now. Still trying to get a bloody new sub type in TFTD, guess I need Mag Ion armor first.

Are you playing Vanilla unmodded? The tech trees in Vanilla are stupid and bugged. Also yes, for the Manta you do need the Mag Ion Armour.

Ufopaedia has a tech tree if you ever need to look at it. https://www.ufopaedia.org/images/5/52/Tree2.png

Putting some quality hours in Total Warhammer.  Played 2 Tomb Kings campaigns, then started a Dark Elves Mortal Empires campaign.

Also, got Final Fantasy 12 on PC.  Reminds me of when i first started trying to up-res Freespace 2 textures.

Yeah just playing whatever is on Steam. I checked the Wiki to make sure I didn't screw myself tech wise.  I finally have the Manta but not the Fighter/Transport.

The tech trees and such in that game are pretty dumb.  Why do I need to research all the armor, sub construction, plastics, zyrbiteand a new fightercraft before I can get a Coelecanth with a Gauss Cannon?  I'm guessing it floats, haven't hit the field with it yet.  But I should've got it months ago on the tech tree.  Just give me a bloody tracked one.  Gauss weapons are trash against anything better than a Gillman.

Was a big fan of the game starting out, but starting to get displeased with it.  The tech progression of the early games is kind of wank, armor is useless half the time, Ion Armor guys sometimes drop in one sonic shot.  Light armored is only good against outer-radius sonic pulsers or when my own team gets mind controlled and starts blasting.  Maybe its good against Pistols but the aliens never use them past the first couple months. And Tentacults in Artifact sites are obnoxious, especially when I've got three guys on overwatch and none of them shoot the thing.

I think it has the regular, poor Xcom progression of being super hard until you get MC Disruptors and Disruptor Torps, and then being super easy.

After this will revisit Apocalypse which I never got far in, maybe the tech tree there is a bit better.  Plus its fun blowing up cultists.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Basically most commonly available information seems to show that after the original came out, they forced the team to basically rush it out. So allot of TFTD is poorly thought out, nonsensical and frustrating. Same with Apocalypse.

Several people have made megamods which kinda duct tape problems, but many are super old.

On the otherhand, the Beta's for the mod Open Apocalypse is steady progressing as more people join the project. So that people can play Apoc on new systems, with new features. (https://discord.gg/FmeqCC is their discord).

Did it work for you? Playing Tomb Kings Mortal Empires the game crashed on turn 36 :D

Well TFTD was a separate team, while the original team went on to apocalypse or at least the original designers.

Thanks for the links, though I'm a purist so will tackle the games warts and all. Maybe won't hit up apocalypse right away, will try maybe banner saga 2 after this.

Also have xenonauts and the ufo trilogy to maybe play through at one point though xenonauts didn't impress me. Aiming was too granular, no PDWs and the art style is not my favourite

Re: What are you playing right now?
I'm kinda conflicted regarding Blue Planet.
On one hand I want to continue because I'm liking it a lot, on the other I fear the part without voice-acting might force me to recall the message log too often because the explosions, light effects or in general having to pay attention to what's in front of me tend to make subtitles difficult to read.
I could tolerate it in Just another Day because it was mostly silly jokes but BP is something I want to be able to follow properly.

The not-voice-acted part moves the message log to just under the reticle, so you don't have to wrench your eyes away from the fight to see it.

Re: What are you playing right now?
In the last week or so I wanted to play something silly and so I reinstaleld Saints Row 2 (PC) this time with a female boss (voice 3) that ended up looking like agent Scully in sunglasses (still better than some some of my aborted attempts at female Boss of a couple of years ago).
I have finished GTA IV last month and that nagging voice in my head telling me "Saints Row plays better" was very much right, also the Boss even though they have silly moments are never depicted as anything less than a psychopath which betrays a genre awareness that GTA doesn't quite have.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Powered through Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2 during the last days... (despite PC port stability issues.... don't use the unlimited fps option)

Got my heartbreak from the finale of the first one mended, laughted, cried and ... damit I want that thrid part on PC RIGHT NOW; Not just because I have been a sucker for the (optional yet heavily fated to be by the writers) romance between Rean and Alisa, but because of the devs are just on point again at the concluding, yet teasing cycle which sucked me into the series in the first place.

EDIT: or at least give me western release dates for the PS4 remaster and Part III (last year) & IV (this year)
