What is the current Status for ST:R?

My current understanding is that FREDing is complete. And you just have Voice Work to be done but correct me if im wrong.

That's correct.  We're having a great deal of trouble finding quality voice actors.

Voice acting is more than 50% completed though.

Maybe, but I still think that ST:R is such a grand project that the voice acting has to be as good as it can be. I wouldn't be helping the team if I sent some sample lines where I sound like your average 16-year-old whining geek while trying out for some tiger pumping pilot or veteran admiral role. That, and the fact that I only have a mike that's integrated to my laptop. Add those together and figure out why I'm never gonna send any sample lines for any voice acting. Ever.

Try this:

I've heard that pro anchors / radio talk show hosts / musicians / etc try to modulate their voices so that it "resonates" in their head.  Hence the pleasant, mesmerizing hum that helps you fall asleep listening to the news.  Not sure if that'd help, but if you can find the right pitch to do that, it would prolly help for an admiral or experienced, older pilot role.  And practice your lines until you know them, and then try to imagine that you're actually trying to communicate that message to your squadmates / commanders / subordinates / w/e in a real situation.

There's something called compressing, y'know?

Additionally, the human ear/temporal lobe combo is tuned to react to the 800Hz-1.5kHz range -- the main range of our voices -- in a different manner than other frequencies. Audio that stimulates other frequencies is mostly considered by the same combo deviations, and mostly pleasant. As example, most find pressing the Olde "Loudness" button to produce a more pleasant audio spectrum. Y'know? Sound sure is funny. A very peculiar item. The majority of folks have an unexplainable bias towards certain timbres and spectrograms, completely unrelated to the physical world. I have a ton of those stories in me back pocket.

I always compress, then normalize my audio.    Audacity FTW!  (Well, Audiograbber can do that, too.. XD )

The other way around. Really. Normalize, then compress. Otherwise it will help you nada. Depending on the source, 'fcourse.

Urgh... you guys have cleaned up the messy FREDing from the original campaign, right? I've been playing through ST for most of the day, and all of the bugs/weird behavior really stand out. In fact, I've had to stop; the mission where the Krios explodes uses the "Red Alert" settings that are saved at the end of The Great Hunt. Because myself and both wings of fighters were all Hercs, we didn't have the speed or maneuverability to outfly all the Lokis in this mission, making it impossible to save all the escape pods.

Hehe.  Well, that depends.  Yes, we've cleaned up all the bugs from the original campaign.  However, since we use a bunch of stupid FRED tricks, retail FRED will choke on about a third of our missions.

Retail FS2 will play just fine, however.

Well you are lucky, usually I start as an Ursa.

Blech...I utterly loathed that mission for that very reason.  Even on Easy, the only way I was ever able to save more than one or two of the pods was by typing in the good ol' URL and brute-force Ctrl+Shift+I'ing the lot of them.  I think I usually wound up as the Herc too, and there was just no way to get into the proper position to fend off the ships that jump in near the node fast enough.

Me too... usually with three banks of Harbingers... which is useful for the Leviathan... but not the Lokis.

I once ended up with two leech cannons and six harbingers.

Why would I want Audacity when I have Adobe Audition, formerly Syntrillium Software's Cool Edit Pro? I only asked who I should contact because the Voice acting thread that was linked to here is locked, so I don't know where to post an audition. I've already found one minor line that's perfect for me, and I'm sure I can do at least a few others.
