Excellent! Is it correct that Raider Wars and the Earth Minbari demo are included?

What about the Mission Pack?

Yes, they seem to work.

Also, Earth-Minbari War and Raider Wars are both included at versions 3.0 judging from the vp names, so those extra downloads are no longer necessary.

Try and be tolerant of minor bugs Orph. I simply ran out of time to work on this thing since I'm moving house and starting a new job in a week.

So I'm rather new to all this...
When I click the link I get a new page full of code, do I need to compile this before I can run it?

I'm trying to run this on my MAC, I read elseware that I needed the 3.4 to run with the FS2 3.6.9, is that true too?

Thanx

Ugh... I hate to be the first to post a problem...  :nervous:

In the mission loading screen, the game crashes and spews the following out:

Could not load exp04 anim file

file:J:\src\cvs\fs2_open_3_6_9.final\code\Fireball\Fireballs.cpp

Line:697

(This file points to the location of a file on the computer that built this executable)

Neither can I view any ships in the Techroom. And the cursor 'smears' itself all over the main screen.

I've got OpenAL installed. And I never had any trouble with the previous versions. Please help!

And I hate to be the second one...

I downloaded the TBP-Base-3_4 and clicked it twice so it could install. The program said that windows is preparing for the installation (around 30 seconds) and after that countdown... NOTHING happened. I restarted my computer - the same. Isn't that a self-installing file?

btw it is 908,576 MB. I hope that sice is true and the data is not corrupt

Mine installed for around 10 minutes, I guess it's just a question of waiting longer than the installer would suggest.

Unfortunately you're out of luck. The game is being distributed as a .msi which means it will only work with Windows. If you can extract it on a Windows machine I'm sure you could take the files and get it running on a Mac or in Linux though.

In the mission loading screen, the game crashes and spews the following out:

Could not load exp04 anim file

I hate to go against the established advice (especially as I was one of those who established that advice) but that particular error is almost certainly caused by running the game in OpenGL on an Intel graphics card. You'll have to run in Direct3D to make it work and that can cause certain graphical errors. There is a fix for some of those errors to be found here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,48032.0.html). No idea how well it actually works.

I downloaded the TBP-Base-3_4 and clicked it twice so it could install. The program said that windows is preparing for the installation (around 30 seconds) and after that countdown... NOTHING happened. I restarted my computer - the same. Isn't that a self-installing file?

That one puzzled me too. Check your start menu and see it it hasn't actually installed rather quietly to C:\Program files\
Title: Re: The Babylon Project 3.4 / Final download link
Post by: Manunkind on July 15, 2007, 03:28:51 pm
(slaps forehead) I thought it might be because of OpenGL but somehow it didn't occur to me to try Direct3D instead     Thanks, Karajorma.

Title: Re: The Babylon Project 3.4 / Final download link
Post by: karajorma on July 15, 2007, 04:50:35 pm
It's not a problem. We've spent a long time training everyone to use OpenGL all the time anyway. It is by far the better of the two APIs because no one is maintaining the FS2_Open D3D code.

I'm always tolerant - I guess my I'm still able to life with Direct 3D  :p
and if I find any -- well I've learned a lot - I might be able to fix them myself

Anyway .. if you have not changed the stars.tbl I gave you, we will come along fine

HAHA! thats exactly what happened.  Oddly enough I had a feeling that was the case but, before, when I checked  C:/Program Files/  I didn't see it as I was looking for Babylon Project or Freespace didn't think of the definite article "The"

It takes a while, you just gotta wait.

I've got a somewhat older system: AthlonXP 2100+ w/ 512 MB RAM and Win2K.  I've been letting the installer work for over an hour and it still has not gotten past the "Please wait while windows configures your installation" or whatever that wait message is.  Meanwhile, my system process is pegged at 100% CPU usage and the rest of the computer has slowed to a crawl.  Should that be happening?  Is my computer just that old?

Post by: Deepstar on July 15, 2007, 10:50:19 pm
I download it just ago.

Tried to install it.. and was worried after i find out, that you can't select a Folder (who has this ..."idea"?).

First, i don't like to have any Games on C:\ (because on my  C:\ drive are only Operating System related Programs like Drivers ;)). Second i don't like, that it's impossible to move the TBP Folder to another HDD, because then the Launcher don't start and said something about "it has to be in the same directory where the binary is" or something like that.
Third, i hope for another .msi File or a Installation Fix where you can select an Installation Folder like in the previous Versions :)

But so, currently there is a ~900 MB Download for nothing :-| *reinstallTBP3.3*

Hi,

I concur with Deepstar.

Since I don't have 2,5 GB free space on my C drive the game won't install for me.
I hope an install fix will be made quickly because I just can't wait to try this Babylon 5 game.

Cheers

How big is your hard disk?  You might benefit from running Dustbuster (search www.majorgeeks.com for it) as long as you have MS .NET Framework installed... Dustbuster frees up a ton of space... it's in another language, but it's fully automatic, so no problem.

If your hard disk isn't big enough to install the game - buy a bigger hard disk.

I'm trying to run this on my MAC

The game comes as an MSI. Otherwise known as a Windows Installer package. Your options for installing on a mac:

1) Find a piece of 3rd party software to allow you to install MSI on a mac.
2) Ask someone to create you a MAC installer

This will work for getting the game up and running on a partition other than C: but once you move the program Windows will no longer know where to find it, so it will fail should you ever wish to uninstall it using Add/Remove programs.

Thanks for the tip. Dustbuster freed up an additional GB but still not enough. I only got 2GB free on my C: partition. I really don't want to reinstall my entire system just to enlarge my C: partition. I got more than enough space on my D: partition (still got 40 GB free). Do you know how to extract files from the msi package?

Thanks upfront.

Ooh!! I know the answer!  I do this all the time... you need GParted LiveCD (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php).  It works pwnsomely!!  Just, after you resize, DO NOT SKIP THE CHKDSK THAT WIN XP WILL AUTOMATICALLY START, OR YOU MIGHT HAVE BIG PROBLEMS.  Let it finish checking.  To resize, you'll have to shrink the other partition, select the partition, and hit "Move/Resize" button, then grab an end on the graphical display and slide it over.  Remember, if you have extended partitions, the normal partitions inside of them need to be resized down first before you can resize the extended partition out of the way... (this can require a bit of clever mousework, as the extended partition is extremely close in the display with the normal partition, but don't worry, it won't hurt anything if you miss.. it just won't move) try not to leave any blank space unused; it's just wasteful.. Anyways, after you have told it what you wnat done (shrink partition xx, shrink extended partition zz to fit around that one, grow partition yy) by dragging the sliders, then hit the start button and wait until it finishes, then hit the exit button when it's done.  Restart, let chkdsk finish, and then you're all set!!  Thx to karajorma (I think?) for pointing this program out to me awhile ago; it's awesome.. or whoever it was.  :D (S-99?  The person who was telling me about ext3, I believe..)

@Maccie users: http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_search=soft&words=mac+.msi+installer hope that helps... not that you deserve it...
[Darth Vader]You are part of the Rebel Alliance, and a traitor!!  Take her away!![/Darth Vader] ... then again, I am too... oh well :sigh:

The Uninstall would still knock out the start-menu items and any registry additions, then one can just shift+delete the game folder... I moved the game folder, updated the launcher.ini, ran the uninstaller to get rid of what the MSI junk did and had no problems from the uninstaller or the game.

But you're overlooking one big thing... who would want to uninstall it?  ;)

ajantis: a quick Google search gave me this: http://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract
The tool has the ability to extract files from just about anything, including MSIs, to anywhere you like.  Heck, I would have some uses for this at work... anyway, I saw at least one other tool just for MSIs that lets you pull out individual files.  You won't get any start menu items of course, but who needs 'em?

hi,
to extract the msi under windows, write this in the execute programm in the windows start menu (dont know excatly how it call in the english windows version):

Code: [Select]
msiexec /a "source" /qn TARGETDIR="target"

for example:

Code: [Select]
msiexec /a "C:\TBP-Base-3_4.msi" /qn TARGETDIR="C:\Test\"

The run command.  Start > Run

Same thing as execute program

Unless you meant the command prompt?  Opens a dos box?  I think you meant run, though... comes up with a drop-down type box, and the three buttons: OK, Cancel, and Browse.

I have DL and installed but having trouble running.  I've set the launcher to direct3d8 and resolution to 1024x768.  I get it to run sort of on 800x600 but the intro is screwed up and graphics look bad.  I see the first splash screen with B5 and then It crashes and I get the windows error. I set the antialising to diferent selections and no real difference.  Is there a list of settings need?  I have an AMD 3200 64, 1 gig, and an nvidia 6600gt.  Please help! Dying to try new release.

Very easy.... set to OpenGL.. Direct 3D is not officially supported anymore, and should only be used as a last resort.  Try running at 1024x768, make sure your tags are straight, mine are: (you can set these using the features tab)

type Graphics:
select all options except "disable scale to window for movies"

type HUD:
select all

type Gameplay:
select everything except The Babylon Project and Wing Commander Saga features toggles.

add this to the "custom flags" box, above "list type":

-ambient_factor 0 -no_emissive_light -fov 0.55 -spec_exp 16.7 -spec_point 0.6 -spec_static 0.9 -spec_tube 1

Moderator note: These are different settings to the ones people who run the official download will get.

EDIT: Oh, and for playing FS2, select the mod "mediavps" in the MOD tab... if you're playing another mod, mediavps is autoselected by the mod... but if you're just playing FS2, you've gotta turn it on yourself.

Ok,

I unpacked the files like you described. Afterwards I just had to install "openal32" to correct the error messages and to be able to use open gl because the intro movies in direct3D are scrambled. But now the game just runs fine. Superb.

Thanks alot.

If you've already installed OpenAL, then select the debug build in the launcher, run the program, and when it crashes, post the last 10 lines of the Freespace2\data\ error log file (I forgot the name, but you'll know it when you see it)

Since you guys have put up an archive only version of TBP Final you can expect more people complaining about problems running it under Direct3D. One of the things the installer does is set the correct registry settings so that the game automatically runs under OpenGL with appropriate settings.

If it hadn't been for that necessity I would have distributed TBP Final as a zip archive myself.

How's about an included .reg File with the correct registry settings in your rar archive?
So you can extract TBP, execute the .reg File and then start the launcher.

Should have just used the BtRL executables. They're basically 3.6.9 with a couple of bug fixes which shouldn't affect TBP in any way but they only run in OpenGL. The few people who actually need D3D could simply download 3.6.9 official.

Corrected registry settings are all well and good but we all know that there are a whole bunch of people who will run the launcher and go "OMFGBBQ! OpenGL! That's SLOOOOOWWWWW!" And then pick D3D.

If I'd known about them I would have used them. With us being HLP's biggest most underappreciated mod though, I was never going to find out until after the event was I. Hell I even shipped 3.4 with the horrendous Vorlon Fighter mission save bug because I figured asking the SCP team for assistance would be a waste of time. I did my best with the limited time and support I had.

TBP 3.4 rar no install version with all extras (http://www.monova.org/details.php?id=378705)

Thankyooouuu! :D

Leeching and Seeding as I type ;)

Since you guys have put up an archive only version of TBP Final you can expect more people complaining about problems running it under Direct3D. One of the things the installer does is set the correct registry settings so that the game automatically runs under OpenGL with appropriate settings.

If it hadn't been for that necessity I would have distributed TBP Final as a zip archive myself.

Perhaps a RAR installer would have been better... would be cross platform and spared you telling everyone to get an MSI unpacker (As opposed to clicking on said regfile, although I guess the regfile is not applicable to us Linuxen...)

But thus is a minor quibble; Thanks for all the hard work you put in!! ;)

Just the screen shots look totally badass... speaking of which I'm gonna go get my ass handed to me by the AI in the beautiful environment you've created once this finishes fetching... :P

Yes a Windows installer package... using Windows Installer... to install something to Windows. The insanity! Seriously Cobra is it our fault that you run an installer, you don't get an error, and you can't figure out that maybe just maybe it installed without error? Presumably you want a rendered 3D animation with flashing neon lights and blaring rock music to celebrate the occasion. Now mentally translate this acronym. F. F. S. Go play your 1gig free game and stop whinging about sod all. Thank you.

@imchief & IPAndrews:
Ooopsie... forgot we were talking about Baylon here... :nervous:  Umm, try enabling the "Babylon Project", other than that, I'd ask IPAndrews what else he'd recommend changing... (I'd like to know myself what the Babylon recommended settings are!)

I'm putting together a nice new installer that's more like what you would expect an installer to be like. If any of you have downloaded my FSSCP DVD and installed from it, it will be like those installers and you will have the option to choose the install path. It's pretty too :D

It will be a few days though before I can get it uploaded as I can no longer "borrow" bandwidth at work, so I will have to get friend to upload it for me to filefront.

Actually I asked about that one last time you mentioned it and I got no reply (or if I did I missed it). If the bug is in Mantis I'm happy to take a look at it.

As for the rest, feel free to bug me with SCP questions. Everyone else does, generally with less cause.

Save a mission with the player's ship as a Vorlon Fighter (or various other ships actually) and FRED will crash. I don't really have time to fiddle around with Mantis. If you can Mantis it on my behalf I would appreciate it. As I am really pushed for time at the moment.

A thousand thanks to you, senor Andrews. I was finally able to play Raider Wars through without constantly fiddling around with different builds. So far I've only encountered one bug or something.
Can't remember the name of the mission, but it was the first mission taking place at Altair station. When I shot a high payload dumbfire at one of the Narn transports, the game crashed to the desktop saying that it had encountered an error. Don't know what that was all about, but I just restarted and tried again, this time without using missiles. And then it worked. Not a big thing, and it only happened that one time.

The installer was a bit cryptic. When I ran it, I was most of the time completely unaware of its intentions, and I was only able to pray that it would work. Good thing that it did, but I would have wanted to install it to a different directory.
Then again, considering the amount of work you've obviously done for this project and the fact that it's free, I'd eventually admit that the whole "It's free so just shut up and play the goddamn game" policy is justified.

All in all, thank you for doing this. All we need now is some serious advertising campaign or something to get more players.

Okay. I know the cause of the crash if not the root cause. The Vorlon fighter seems to be saved with

$AI Behavior: Cargo

instead of

$AI Behavior: None

That probably means a table error somewhere but my table skills are average at best. Someone like Wanderer who actually understands them can probably figure out the cause fairly quickly. If he can't I'll take another stab at it.

I suspect an objecttypes.tbl related bug, though the tables look fine, which leads me to believe it's a code bug.

Yeah. Wanderer said much the same thing. That does confuse me as to why it's only affecting some ships and not others. What else apart from the Vorlon fighter does this?

Quite a few ships. A sizable percentage actually. Choose some at random and you'll get a crash 50% of the time at least. But to name one I definitely know of, the Thunderbolt.

I think the msi format has a hand in this.

Is there a way to remove the msi format  so modelview or pcs can open any pof in the vp file, or, am I biting off more than I can chew.  :nervous:

Hello

First off, thank you for making such a sweet looking conversion, I've downloaded it and am really eager to fire it up.

That said, I seem to be having issues with getting the game to run, I downloaded and ran both the original installer, and the newer version (After uninstalling and deleting the original installer) and upon loading would get various error messages.

I also had similar issues to the eailer demo, though with that version I had been able to get to the pilot select screen before the game would crash.

(The error's mention that it is pasted upon a clipboard, but I don't know how to access it so I can post the exact info, forgive me, for I am newb.)

Error  ships.tb(line 1537:
Error: Required token ={#End} {$Subsystem:} or{$Name},found{$animation=triggered}

And so on..

Any pointers on what I need to do to fix this would be apreacted.

Thanks

The clipboard is accessed by holding down CTRL, and pressing either X, C, or V.  X will remove a selection and put it in the clipboard, C will make a copy and put it in the clipboard, leaving the original, and V will copy from the clip board to currently active destination, leaving a copy on the clipboard, until the computer is restarted or something else replaces it in the clipboard.  So, the error message says its in the clipboard, so the CTRL + C part is already done for you.   Put your cursor in the reply box, so that it is flashing there as if you were going to type.  Press CTRL + V: voila!!  CTRL +X,C,V is the same as Edit or Right-click -> Cut Copy Paste that you are probably familiar with.

Now, make sure you have a directory \The Babylon Project\data\players\single  if you don't, then create those directories.  Does that help?  If not let me know.

By the way, since this runs on the FSO engine... Can you make it so you can just download it as a mod folder? It's easier than downloading a copy of the same engine.

It's only like 5 MB.

Just been playing this evening, awesome work! Really nice looking from the front-end onwards. I've been playing the Earth Minbari War, which was the campaign that more or less bought me to HLP, and... I still suck!

Seriously though, great, fun game, I'm on Holding The Line at the moment, hard work, especially without a decent Joystick, but the atmosphere was good, and the models worked really well. My only concern is that my fighter felt a wee bit on the slow side while fly-bying large ships, but then, I guess if you tweaked up one fighter, you'd have to tweak them all up, and Nials are hard enough to hit already ;)

All in all, it's the first bit of 'Freespace' I've played in a while, mainly due to lack of aforementioned decent Joystick, and I just wanted to say thanks, and well done. :)

Heh, the only reason I haven't given it a go yet is because there's no hope whatsoever of controlling a Viper with drift without using a Joystick of some kind, or at least until mouse support is exponential instead of linear :) I did download it and have a go, but keyboard is really not my controller of choice for this sort of game.

Yes, I checked and the dir path of  \The Babylon Project\data\players\single already exsited, even had a 0 kb fille named inferno inside.. (Didnt know if that should be there, took the file inferno out and tried running, same error upon splash screen, so i put it back in)

I do freely admit I have a somewhat wonky pc, so maybe its just me :(

Anyways, any other suggestions, well aside from chucking the stone age pc out of a window.

Edit :Whoa, first time ive managed to quote myself on a post.

Edit2: Tried a uninstall > delete > reinstall, same error on start up.

This is from a fresh install, right?  If so, then see if there is a debug build you can run from the launcher (change the name of the .exe file to the debug version by hitting Browse).  Now, after it crashes, go look in your Babylon Project\data directory for an error log.  Attach this log to your next post by clicking "Additional Options..." (if that is not visible, hit the Preview button first).

It isn't working for me.

Every time I double click on Launcher.exe or fs2_open_3_6_9.exe, (or any executable file other than fred2_open_3_6_9.exe) I get a "(program name) has encountered a problem and needs to close."

What do I need to do in order to get this game to run?

Here is an excerpt from my error log:

fs2_open_3_6_9 caused an Access Violation in module OpenAL32.dll at 001b:10005ef2.

WooT!

Finnaly got it working, seems while I was digging through the clutter I call a HD, I had two copies of freepace 2 installed in two seperate locations, along with some other things that shouldnt have been where they were.

So after a lil uninstalling, deleting, redownloading and reinstalling, Poof! I can get to the pilot screen now. The intro CS was rather choppy, guessing thats cause my pc is under reccomended specs.

After having played through two other conversions (Wing commander and Btrl) I am really hyped to give it a go.

Quick question : I noticed Raider wars and Earth membari wars was included, but for Earth - Membari war is listed as a Demo, is that a typo or do I need to download the full version sepretly, as I thought the OP said both campaigns are included in the download.

There is (yet) no full version of EMW, so this thing is called a "demo"...

Aye, but the orginal website (assuming the links would work) does not list it as a demo, thought another thread had given that impression as well.

And problem solved. Goober decided to do the actual coding on the solution after I pointed out the cause of the crash and had no idea what the code was supposed to be doing (Which turns out to be bugger all since $AI Behavior isn't actually used by the game.)

Fix should be in CVS soonish depending on how quickly Goober works. In the meanwhile setting the $AI Behavior: back to none in notepad might solve your problems depending on how often the offending code is called.

Not sure, but it sounds like a corrupt download... you may have to download again... :(  Try using the torrent, torrents use built-in hash checking, so corruption is impossible.

Awesome report Whitelight. I haven't had any problems either.

BTW, here is the torrent I put together: http://www.mininova.org/tor/793103 (http://www.mininova.org/tor/793103).

<edit> 126 people are downloading from me right now. </edit>

If you need a Bittorrent client, use uTorrent (http://www.utorrent.com/).

For those having installing issues due the spartan design of the Official Installer. an alternate installer for The Babylon Project v3.4 in now available:
<a href="http://files.filefront.com/TheBabylonProject_v3.4.exe/;8173080;/fileinfo.html" title="TheBabylonProject_v3.4.exe">TheBabylonProject_v3.4.exe[/url]
793 MB

And yes it will allow you to choose the install path ;)

Thank you so much for this!! The link didn't work though and a search on filefront said there was no such file.  Is it hosted someplace else now? I'm greatly looking forward to this!

is there something missing or do we need to log in to File Front?

i was really looking forward to using hip's installer, and hope this can get re posted. thanks

I think the only way of accessing it now is through torrents and I'm hesitant to use them becuase of bad experiences with viruses and malware before.

Thanks!

Eh,

:welcomeblue:

You can trust our torrents... :)  But, just to be safe, you should scan anything you download with a virus scanner.   I recommend AVG Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam (both free) by Grisoft (http://free.grisoft.com), AVAST! Free (http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html) or, if you want to pay, F-Prot from Frisk Software (http://www.f-prot.com) or Kaspersky Anti-Virus (http://www.kaspersky.com)

I DO NOT recommend products by Norton or McAffee... they let too much through, and bog your system down too much.  AVG is much better.

Also, for extra spyware protection, get Lavasoft Ad-Aware Personal (free) (http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php) and Spybot Search & Destroy (free) (http://www.safer-networking.org) (be sure to use the "Immunization" feature! ;) ), as well as Windows Defender (free) (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx).

No... just select an INF build.  ;)  Plain & simple.  See if it works.

ok! this give me 4 option

-the exe original
-the debug
-the INF debug
-the INF

The last two make me create a new pilot then does not recognize the pilot to me created in the two first options

So if there is a fifth option that is INF build... I don't see it :(
Title: Re: The Babylon Project 3.4 / Final download link
Post by: jr2 on September 27, 2007, 08:36:06 pm
:p  They are all builds!  "the INF" is a build, so it is the INF build.  And, yeah, I guess you have to make a new pilot... :/  "Debug" is for helping to find errors; it will create \The Babylon Project\data\fs2_open.log and you can post it... but this is not a real error, just an engine limit.  The whole thing with the INF builds is that they allow more than the normal maximum number of ship types.

I have the exactly same problem. The game always crashes at this point, I even tried it on Linux and Windows.
Using the debug build I get the same message saying "Too many ship classes", and using the Inferno it crashes even before I started the mission.

BTW my pilot file is copied from an 3.3a installation, is it compatible to 3.4 at all?
Title: Re: The Babylon Project 3.4 / Final download link
Post by: jr2 on October 02, 2007, 11:21:59 pm
The question to ask yourself is, "What version of the FSO executable was bundled with 3.3a?  Is that version's pilot files compatible with the version that came bundled with 3.4 at all?"
Title: Re: The Babylon Project 3.4 / Final download link
Post by: x1jmp on October 03, 2007, 05:51:54 am
Bundled with 3.3a was 3.9.8, I don't know, if the pilot files are compatible.

However I created a new pilot and played till "Slipping the Noose" and FS still crashes. I can't post any error messages, as all builds except the default non-debug (3.6.9) crash when starting the game or loading the raider wars campaign.

I deleted TBP 3.3 and installed 3.4. However when I go to start the program it says OpenAL32.dll was not found and that I should reinstall. I have done that and the message still pops up when I go to start the program. Please help

I am probably just blind, but i need a little help. I downloaded 3.4 and it works fine. Except the fact that it runs in Direct 3d and i cant change the resolution. How can i change it to OpenGL? Thanks for helping in advance. :)

The Launcher? Found somewhere in the start menu folder that TBP creates. Open it, open the Video tab, select OpenGL from the drop menu, as well as the resolution you wish to use. 1024x768 is the highest officially supported one. Higher ones can work but at least widescreen resolutions cause all sorts of graphical glitches that you don't want to see. Then, hit Ok and you're done.

why must there be an installer that will only work on windows computors?  Cant there simply be a dl for the files in a single archive for us non windows users to dl and move in a copy of the mac version of FSO?

Run the debug version instead and attach the FS2_Open.log you'll find in your data folder.

OK, thanks. I'm attaching the file. If I'm reading it correctly, it crashed right after trying to initialize openAL... I'll try to solve the problem as described in the forums. But strangely I got no error message with openAL...

Edit:
It worked. Now it crashes at startup or during the intro... another error log attached.

Edit2:
I finally got it working. Funny thing - it crashes only in debug mode... However, if I use OpenGL, I get the intro, but can't see the interface. When I switch to DirectX 8, I see fuzzy pixels during the intro and in the pre-debriefing movies, but get the simulator and the interface OK. Is there any workaround? Also, the game crashes when exiting from the initial interface under OpenGL. But I can't get that far in debug mode.

And again the game crashed - this time during a mission (the first one) when destroing one of the Minbari fighters. Don't have the error log though - launched the game with the launcher. I'll try to recreate the error in debug mode (as soon as I get to the mission in debug mode...).

Moreover, all sounds and speech is playing through my external soundcard and speakers, save for the debriefing speech, which comes from my internal speaker. Why is it so?

And lastly a minor issue. Well, not much of an issue even. I have moved the Start menu from "Programs" to "Programs/Games". Every time I run the Launcher or the game, a new icon is created in the TBP group in  "Programs".

Hi, again ;)

While I still cannot launch the game in debug mode, I figured out that all mission crashes were when the Minari cruisers where firing. Maybe it's something with their beam weapons rendering? What can I switch off to minimize the risk of the game crashing?

TrashMan, punch this in:

msiexec /a "TBP-Base-3_4.msi"

...Enjoy.  (I hope... don't ask how I found that out!)  :nervous:  Well, okay... I found it here (http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2007/10/30/installing-dos-additions-under-vpc-2007.aspx), while trying to install Virtual Machine Additions on MS Virtual PC 2007 (DOS 7.10 installed), which M$ doesn't support... they only support it on VPC 2004.  :p  I now have it working, and hope that this trick I learned will make you able to install to whichever drive you want.  Let me know how it goes.

I cannot edit tbl files being in B5-Core-3_4. When I tried to open them in tblviw32 and wordpad I got this

http://den5.pochta.ru/shipstbl.jpg (http://den5.pochta.ru/shipstbl.jpg)

I had no similar problems with previous TBP versions. Any ideas what is wrong with this?

Somebody can give me a link on a all tbl files from B5-Core-3_4?

Try extracting the tbl files from the B5-Core-3_4.vp with QuickVP. Then open them with Wordpad.

Alternate hip63 3.4 Installer mirror (includes the 3.4a patch): here (http://files.filefront.com/Ethay+Abylonbay+Ojectpray4a7z/;9027798;/fileinfo.html).  (Never mind the odd title, there's a reason for that.  Extract using 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org) and enjoy!  ;)

EDIT:  FileFuss deleted it... Oh well.  I'll re-up when 3.4b comes out.

It should install it, since it's a Windows Installer. If the installer succeeds, you should have it installed in C:\Program files\The Babylon Project. There should also be entries in your Start menu. If you are certain that it doesn't work, you can always wait for a little while. TBP 3.4b is coming soon.
