The FSPort MediaVPs are still at version 3.1 but will be upgraded to 3.1.1 later this weekend. In the meantime, everyone should try running 3.1.1 by itself, without any mediaVPs, to verify that it works for them. :)
The thing that annoys me though, is that you don't make a single pack of it, so it's more convenient to download.
I didn't test them; I just put them directly into the VP...
Silent Threat. It sucks. We know. Wait till Christmas.
Why? Then, when they updated from 3.1 to 3.1.1, you'd have to redownload the entire thing. Now you only had to redownload a few chunks of it. Most parts don't update nearly as often as others might, so there's really no reason for that. I don't understand this obsession with 'one pack to rule them all'. The installer makes it easy enough to get them anyway if it's ease of install you're really after.
STR released this Christmas.QuoteSilent Threat. It sucks. We know. Wait till Christmas.wat
okay, i guess I had the 3.0.4 one. Problem solved. I guess Mongoose had the same issue, hopefully he fixed it too. :lol:Yeah, I figured it out at some point yesterday when I was poking through my Port .vps. Everything's fine now.

In mission command "heads" are a VasudanIndeed. Is there a known cause for this? I'm also getting this, but because of the holiday panic I haven't had enough time to scour through the forums properly.
I was led to believe that the mediavps folder had to contain what I have, which is:Uh... If you have mv_complete, it must be in \freespace2\mediavps\. If you have the FSPort MediaVPs, they must be in \freespace2\fsportmediavps\. Other FSPort files must be in \freespace2\fsport. Then, open the mod.ini in \freespace2\fsportmediavps\ and check that the folder names on the "secondarylist" line correspond with the folder names you have under \freespace2\. (Remove the entire primarylist line from any mod.ini files.) Select the \fsportmediavps\ folder as your mod from the Launcher and play the game.

bleh, it would be acceptable if the low-poly Orions used glowmaps, but they don't.
There's a TBM you can make with entries like so:Code: [Select]$Name: GTD Orion#krios
+nocreate
$Model file: capital01.pof
This will use the high poly glowy models but lose nameplates.
FS2 Open: Unzip to a new 'fsport' directory in your Freespace2 directory, and select it from the Mods tab of the launcher.I take it right that you have to add 'fsport-mediavps' to the mod.ini of the MOD you are playing. But if I do that for ST:R it says: "Invalid MOD ini multiple mod parameter, only -mod calls are allowed". What did I do wrong?
If using the FSPort Media VPs, unzip them to a new 'fsport-mediavps' directory in your FreeSpace2 folder. Be sure that you have the 3.6.10 MVPs installed in 'mediavps' and you're using a 3.6.10 build. If you're playing a mod that uses FSPort, add 'fsport-mediavps' to the mod.ini just before 'fsport' in the SecondaryMod line.
Retail compatibility. When 3.6.11 comes out, the models will automatically switch to the new models, complete with nameplates. And because you don't like the HTL Orions too, I bet.

We'd have to redo all the art for the medals, and the medal case. It's a bit much considering everything else we've done in this release.
Besides, most of the medals are very very similar between FS1 and FS2.
Read the part titled "Your fs2_open.log" in this post (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,56279.msg1180359.html#msg1180359) and act according to the instructions.
If you've followed the "your fs2_open.log" part (and not the "your improved fs2_open.log" part), the log shouldn't be too big. If it still is, you can always zip it or rar it, which should compress it enough.
From the top of my hat I'm guessing that you're trying to use the FSPort MediaVPs without the normal MediaVPs.
Found root pack 'C:\games\freespace2\fsport\fsport-hi_res.vp' with a checksum of 0x9b3bb212
Did you previously have FSPort 3.0.4 installed? fsport-hi_res is a 3.0.4 file. Remove it. Also, make sure that you have the final 3.6.10 MediaVPs instead of the older Beta ones.fsport-hi_res is a 3.0.4 file. Remove it.Not really. It can be used for all versions of the Port, but if you use the mediaVPs it's not necessary.
During the credit (last) mission, the Earth isn't transparent. The green is box is visible.I'm having the same problem here.

The only bug i encounter (except to the "Credits" Mission) was in "Playing Judas" were i was unable to scan the SD Eva, because it's jumping out after it brakes to 90 m/s. Too fast for my Dragon. And i know, that the Eva brakes down in FS1 to a speed slower than the Dragon before it jumps out.Yeah, it took me several tries to scan the EVA in that mission, it jumped out quite fast, however, I've to say that it's possible to complete the mission. U can still scan the EVA (the exact position to scan is its neck and below it), u must be 2.5 clicks or more from the node, after it jumped in u should slower the time (e.g: x0.5).
The devs just forgot to fix that for the release. They said so earlier in the thread.Oops :eek2:, found the solution on page 4. I think they should post the solution for the Green Earth on the first page or in the FAQ section. :D
I've got a problem here, whenever in the tech room or or press F3 in the main hall, if I click on the PVI KARNAK, the game freeze(stop responding). :confused:Leave it a while. It's not freezing, it's just generating the cache files (the very first time a model is used, the program has to "compile" its "raw" data). Karnak is quite complex and it takes some time to do it. During this time the game seems hung.
Almost forgot, I'm having a problem with the intro cutscene. When I click run from the launcher 5.5d, the intro cutscene show up only in the upper-left corner of the screen and won't scale up to fullscreen. But when I play it from the tech room, everything is just fine.A guess: you've got an ATI GPU card.
Ah. Gotcha.fsport-hi_res is a 3.0.4 file. Remove it.Not really. It can be used for all versions of the Port, but if you use the mediaVPs it's not necessary.
Ooop. I've just remembered this to postWe (Taylor, Galemp, and I) already spent quite a bit of time scaling the low-res versions up to hi-res. You're welcome to submit your own versions if you think they could be done better.
FS1 ported HUD is a really nice touch, but target indicators (laser, missile and missile lock). They are just too low detailed. I suppose they come from the original game 640x480 resolution which just look awful in higher resolutions.
I really think you should change them by "hi-res" versions. Now, they just make the game look worse.
Hey guys!! First of all happy new year to all of you. As I am new in this community I just want to thank everyone who keeps the Freespace spirit alive and has kept it the best Space Sim Simulator ever. The reason I am writing to you is that I need some help with the FSPort 3.1.1. I got it to run and everything seemed to work fine until the mission after avenging angels. While loading the next mission I suddenly get an error message that a model file can't be opened (<S_Rockeye.pof> File: ModelRead.cpp) (//)... As I am a total noob with such things I would be very thankful if someone could help me out. Once more thank you and congratulations for the awesome work!!!

Edit: And empty any \data\cache\ folders under \freespace2\ and its subfolders.
Basically Take "Ancients 4" then once it fades out, tack on the "Vasuda" to the end...
The result should be
ANCIENTS MONOLOGUE 4,
(fade out, then fade into)
Vasuda Toasting scene.
Now this should work And if it does, could be used on other cutscenes.
Nah, The Great War campaign is just fine as-is. Operation Templar, on the other hand... :drevil:
Upon playing some of the original FS missions, you can tell that :v: was rushed; some of the mission briefings are very sparse, and compared to ST:R, they leave a lot of whitespace on the screen.
Ross 128 is not a Port campaign.
Nah, The Great War campaign is just fine as-is. Operation Templar, on the other hand... :drevil:Operation Templar Reborn? :pimp:
And I could swear that background had been fixed. I blame Goober. And Snail, just because.Damn, my sabotage has been uncovered.
1) The readme says that registry hacks are required to get the maximum beauty out of these vps. If we are using 3.6.10 SCP, does that still apply? No.
2) the fsport-hi_res.vp is installed, but the first post on this board says that it is a retail level enhancement...so is it even necessary if we use the fsport mediavps?Well, let's see here...
† A retail-level enhancement; you won't need this if you're using the mediaVPs....what do you think?
Damn, I'm an retard! :mad2::lol:
Okay I'm completely confused here.
I'm trying to get Cardinal Spear working on my FSPort, with FSPort MediaVP enhancements and all that. But I can't seem to get it right. Either it just buggers up, only the FS2 ships are pimped, only the Port ships are pimped, or it just buggers up even more.
What command line option should I use for this?
I was kinda hoping that guide would be a tempoary solution for ST:R till a proper stand alone installer could be put together really. ;)Yeah, there are two things that we need to fix. First I need to fix the launcher bug where it refuses to accept embedded dashes. Second, we need to set up two mod.ini files, one with mediavps and one without them, and make the with-mediavps the default.
I've made it as simple to follow as I could, but it's still a pretty scary process. TBH anything where you have to modify text in functional files in some way is pretty intimidating for newbies.
I was wondering something, the constant "BURRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNN" was always present using a subwoofer?
I was wondering something, the constant "BURRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNN" was always present using a subwoofer?
If you're talking about the engine sounds, you can fix that by using the sound panel of the options in-game menu.
I feel like I'm going to be flamed for asking a repeat question but;
I load up FSport_mediavps, I get all the functions (campaigns, and improved graphics, well for the most part)
but the HUD and interface look like FS2.
Did you just forget to download sparky_hi_fs1 during the first release?
How exactly do i get this up and running? Idk what to download, there's too many chunks, i'd go ahead and get that mega vp for fsport, but there's like not much info next to it stating what it has on the download page. And reading the installation instructions is out of the question?
So, i vouched for tureys installer and downloaded absolutely everything for the port. I'm guessing that the dvd hi-res textures will take precedence, and idk even know how to get the fsport mediavps working. There's the option of loading the fsport media vp folder as a mod as well as loading the fsport 3.1.1 folder as a mod.
I don't get it.
I selected a ported campaign when i selected the fsport 3.1.1 as a mod. Should i select the fsport mediavps folder as mod instead? The instructions don't offer much confirmation as to what's expected.Select \fsport\ and you get FSPort. Select \fsport_mediavps\ and you get FSPort with graphical improvements.
You guys did an awesome job. This is one of my all time favs, I swear the new BSG series got some inspiration from freespace, it has to of...The combat is pretty similar in some ways, but then again so is most air combat. Did you ever play BtRL?

Okay, so I've fixed the 'Enter the Dragon' bug and I'm looking for any others we should be aware of. I am only looking for FSPort bugs--NOT FSPort Media VPs, Media VPs or FSOpen bugs. If there are any others, speak now.
Also in the credit mission (nice idea connecting that to location of the the outro movie end) the earth background had a wrong alpha channel and is settled in a green squareI thought this one was fixed in the latest core .vp. Well, if not, a fix is available here (http://koti.mbnet.fi/reiler/FunkyFreeSpaceStuff/SunSathanas01.rar).
expect for a few typos or really minor mission bugsBy all means, tell us what they were. :) We aim to have an error-free Port. :D

Any particular reason you can think of why the very-much-active team wouldn't keep the links on their own website updated? :p

Galemp's fault. D:
If using the FSPort Media VPs, unzip them to a new 'fsport-mediavps' directory in your FreeSpace2 folder. Be sure that you have the 3.6.10 MVPs installed in 'mediavps' and you're using a 3.6.10 build. If you're playing a mod that uses FSPort, add 'fsport-mediavps' to the mod.ini just before 'fsport' in the SecondaryMod line.I have this line in FreeSpace2/fsport-mediavps/mod.ini file:
[multimod]
secondarylist = fsport-mediavps,fsport,mediavps;
-mod fsport-mediavps,fsport,mediavps
I've got another question: on http://fsport.hard-light.net/website/downloads.html there are a bunch of ported campaigns listed as separate files. Are these included as part of the main post downloads (split into the various VPs) or do I need to download them and install them individually to access the enhancements? No, those are separate campaigns / separate mods. They were converted by the FSPort staff, and they require the FSPort files to work, but they are not part of the main FSPort distribution. Think of them as expansion packs. :)
Nope, Templar was in the original FS2 box, and I think it's original :V: material. It was originally a multiplayer co-op campaign. I think what the GOTY edition did was convert it to single-player as well.Explains why I never saw it on Retail, I didn't use Internet at that time nor did I have GOTY.
I have tried to ask this before, but if Operation Templar was included as a Reconstruction-era campaign in FS2, why is it included with the Port? Is there a particular FS1 asset it requires?
When I used the FSO installer, I chose 'everything' so it should have been installed but wasn't.Apparently the FSO Installer has only one source for the cutscenepacks (FS2 cutscenes included), and since they've disappeared from that server, the Installer simply cannot download them.
Turley.Turey.
I load fsport, and it looks like it loads okay (with the correct intro movie), but then I get an error saying that there are 817 errors logged. When I start the first mission, I'm in an Apollo with the FS1 era HUD, but I don't have any weapons, and thus can't play. Any suggestions?
You must select a Ported campaign in the campaign room such as "The Main FreeSpace Campaign" or "Silent Threat". Simply launching into the ready room will start the main FreeSpace 2 campaign, which will not work when the Port is active.
Where does the Installer download the cutscenes from?It uses a direct FSMods link, which I got from Swantz.
Your fs2_open.log: (possibly the most important thing ever)
fs2_open.log is a file generated by debug builds. It contains all sorts of useful information that we need in order to help you. That is why you should follow the instructions below and provide us with that file when asking for help. Creating an fs2_open.log happens like this:
- Download the recommended build (link is in the first post of this thread) if you haven't already and place the .exe files to your \freespace2\ folder.
- Switch to windowed mode (open the Launcher, open the Features tab, select Dev Tools from the pulldown menu and tick on "Run in window").
- Select the debug build (fs2_open_3_6_10d.exe) and run it. If you've been experiencing crashes, do exactly what you've done previously, up until it crashes.
If you have had other issues, it is sufficient to run it until you get to the Main Hall. If the debug build crashes fatally even before getting to the Main Hall, no worries.- Quit the game.
- Find fs2_open.log from \freespace2\data\, copy it to a safe location and deliver it to us by using one of the following means:
- include it to your post as an attachment (click Additional Options when posting)
- include it to your post using the "code" tags
- send it to pastebin (http://pastebin.org/) and provide us with the link to it
1. I need to select "fsport-mediavps" (not "fsport") as mod in launcher for new models to work - please rewrite instructions in first post, if it's ment to be that wayA rather good point. There was actually no mentioning of the fact that the \fsport-mediavps\ folder should be selected as a mod (though it probably is somewhat obvious to more seasoned FSO players). Anyways, clarified now.
2. Cutscenes only work when placed into "...\fsport-mediavps\" root folder, not "...fsport\data\movies"The cutscenes will work if
