Hello,
I am trying to install Wing Commander Saga Prologue, but due in part to Windows Vista's disk-space greediness and naievety on my part, my C: drive does not have enough space to complete the install (~1.5 GB). I notice that lots of copies of prologue-setup.msi files appear during the install (investigated using WinDirStat).
I wish to install the game to my second partition, which has upwards of 50GB free.
I could further free up space on my my first partition (c:), but this would require much time and effort. Thus, I was wondering if there is a way of installing WC Saga Prologue manually? e.g. from a zip file, then drag-and-dropping.
Can't wait to try out this fantastic game!

Just a second. I'll download it, install it, pack up the installation and try to upload it somewhere.

Never mind, I managed it myself.
After freeing up as much space as I could on the first partition, I ran the prologue_setup.exe installer. I went as far as the 'splash screen', so all extraction had taken place, I had to click Next.
Instead of clicking next, I used WinDirStat to discover a nice large ~270MB "Wing Commander Saga Prologue.msi" file somewhere in a temporary folder. I copied it onto my second partition, used 7-zip to open it, then extracted all files to the second partition.
I would like to suggest to the makers of WC Saga: please consider that people may not use their first partition as their data/programs partition! Thus, please provide an alternative installation method: e.g. zip file!

If you do not have 280 MB of free space on your systems partition, it is your fault. :p

here is an idea
recent versions of windows (Vista and up ) have stolen an old idea from UNIX and Linux you can mount a new drive as a sub directory of an exiting drive letter.
so in theory you could install it on a flash drive.
run "C:\Windows\System32\en-US\diskmgmt.msc" as an Administrator
select the partition on the drive and right clock on it and choose "Change Drive Letter and Path..."
click on the change button you cna chose to mount it as a directory from the window that opens
note you may have to unmount it first or it may not let you do it.
