In this topic I wish to show you any WC model I'm working on. Hopefully I will finish and convert them for use in WC Saga.
Here's the first WC-Model I've ever built: The Salthi MK1 from Wing Commander 1. I've used both the in-game sprites and the drawings from Joan's Fighting Spacecraft included in Claw Marks as template for this model.

A good beginning. I wish I had your modelling skills.
What I can do is point to the single best Salthi I have seen, modelled in wc pioneer.
Maybe this can help with the machine texturing process, especially the minute details.

Hui that was fast. Perhaps you can use the textures and the turrets from the WC2 Remake Fralthra. Or better: I send you the Kamekh from Talon and you use the textures and the round turrets. I would say we need around 6 Dual Laser Turrets for the depot (old: 2 flak cannons)

Which is my intention: To stay as close as possible to the original.
I only need to find a way to flatten the sides of the central sphere.
But are you sure with the Dual Laser Turrets instead of the 2 Flak Cannons?

We can use 2 Flak Cannons. But then it's to easy to destroy that station. I try it already with the Kamekh. The Flak Cannons are not that powerfull to destroy a fighter in a short time. When we use Flak Cannons then it needs at least 4 of them. In Wing Commander 2 the Flak Cannons was danger. In Freespace 2 they need more firepower or more turrets. Afterall I liked Laser and AMG fire more than the Flaks :D

The individual flak shell could just have a higher hit / blast damage rating...

The you have the problem to destroy the Flak Cannon and easy destroy the station. In WC2 it was impossible to destroy weapons. In Saga you can destroy the turrets. And with only 2 turrets the station is very low against such a attack. If we put two turrets on the upperside the underside is defenceless. And if we put one in the upper, one on the lowerside you just need to destroy one turret. So I think 3 Laser on the upper / 3 lowerside its more a tread to your bomber :)

Good idea. Let's place 6 laser turrets in addition to both flak turrets. What do you think about it?

But I need you feedback, especially now. I wish to place a hangar onto the Depot to launch its 52 fighters but I don't know where.

I would say we make it very simple. Just a texture on the upperside, that imagine a door to the hangarbay.

You could make flak turrets very difficult (or even impossible) to destroy by giving them a lot of hitpoints (and perhaps making targeting them impossible, like in WC2).

For one thing, don't use that many vertices on the engine cylinder. You'll end up with too many polygons where they aren't really necessary.
Secondly, you can use the edgesplit modifier to create smoothgroups. See this (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Blender_to_POF_Conversions#Smoothing:) for more information about smoothgroups in Blender.
Thirdly, I have a texturing tutorial on the WCHF website for GIMP users.

Thanks for these suggestions. I've started to rebuild the engines with less polies. I think I should do the same with the guns. :)
I've played around with the lower spheres. Now their height is more like in WCII's manual:

Great. What's your plan now about the Hangar? Just a "hangartexture" or build in a hangar like the Perry Naval Base from Privateer?

k. Until you finish the Station I build a little bit for Last Line. For the Wing 2 Remake I'm atm just at that mission where blair destroy such a supply depot :)

Hi there team.
You probably know of this,

Egosoft's X3 modification that has a WC theme as well.
Maybe you could contact them and arrange for some of their models to come over here.
They have some Kilrathi designs I haven't seen elsewhere. You could ask for their 3d files and "Freespace-ify" them.
