Hello everyone,,
I've recently come to consider many of the less spectacular ships in the Freespace games, including the freighters. In your opionions what freighter is the Best, either aesthetically, gross tonnage, armament-wise, you name it.

My personal favorite is the Poseiden, it's better armed than the Satis, has a smaller target profile than just about any other freighter (besides the Bast) while preserving decent armor: if only the TC and TSC cargo units were tougher.

Triton IMO. Biggest tonnage, which is also the definition of "aesthetically" for freighters. It has room for armor improvements though.

Triton because flak. Isis because being Isis.

Flak is extremely useful for escort fighters. Battle of the Wilderness and Into the Maelstrom displays it perfectly.
As for the Isis, it's actually very strange for a freighter. It's fast, has very small profile, can maneuver, I found it actually pretty tough and it's turrets in FS1 are armed with Avenger. Isis was always annoying for me especially in FS1. It's hard to be disabled because it's subsystems are very small and hard to hit with disruptor.

From the title, I thought this would be a mission where you command fleets of freighters against each other.

Asmodeus. That's a lot of pew pew for a freighter.

I agree about the Poseidon. Great stats all-around, and it's gun placements make it annoying to fight against. A wing of Poseidons would be a difficult target to crack (sans trebs).

Also, destroying its container and sending it spinning makes it EVEN HARDER to hit... WHILE being pelted with subachs.
