Who wrote FS1 and FS2?
Just wondering...  Does anybody know who wrote the plots for FS1 and FS2?  I remember reading somewhere that V hired a writer to smooth out the plots and it sure would be nice to know who it was...

The original idea came from Adam Pletcher, probably some collaborative work by Dave Baranec, Jason Scott and Mike Breault.

I also realised that 'Heiko Herrmann' has a mention in the Freespace2 credits, only now do I understand his involvement with the modkit his made for Freespace2.

btw if V hired anyone for smoothing out the plots it would be listed in the credits unless they requested not to be mentioned.

I found out the real answer....  Read Below.

I wrote the story for FreeSpace, with the help of Mike Kulas.  Jason Scott wrote the story for FS2.

Thats correct...largely due to the terrible localization that was given to FS1.

Adam Pletcher is the guy with the vision...Jason Scott is the crazy guy who envisioned the whole Capella supernova thing. :D

Jason Scott was also Commander Snipes.

Both really cool in person.

Yeah I tried that...they didn't really have anything surprisingly :)

Nobody was really quite sure what'd they would do with the whole Capella thing.  They sure wanted to make another FreeSpace however...but no opportunity.

...are you sure? from what i've heard from them, they'll talk about it during lunch, one of them will go" hey! wouldn't it be cool if..." and the other guy will say "yeah! that's a good idea! It sure would be cool if they would let us make the game!" ect. and Adam Pletcher hinted at the plot, even. He said "Let's just say the Shivans are part of a much bigger problem." Criptic, i know.

Carl, have you been stalking them again? :D
Anyway... a much bigger problem... hmm. Hell if I know what could be worse than murderous aliens bent on destroying mankind, and going to odd lengths to do so...

No one can be sure if the shivans are bent on destroying mankind. In my opinion :nervous:, they are not because if they were, they wouldn't have stopped in Capella and would have flooded the entire GTVA controlled space with Santhanas. Besides, they seem more interested in other stuff... :nervous:

Actually Dave Baranec said that...and that was many months after I had asked that type of question.

I always figured they were hinting that subspace was the bigger problem.  Capella was an attempt to salvage another situation perhaps...

It's a shame Interplay has the rights, those filthy bastards. They're going under anyway so they might as well give them up and make some money in the process...

I know! Let's all donate our organs and BUY the rights!

Well, since they've associated mass with subspace (artificial jumps having to be done in a large gravity well like a star's) it's got something to do with that.

Using that as an idea, you can see why they hinted at planet-sized spaceships in FS3 that you'd be flying around the surface of and strategically blowing subsystems up. (That comment was a response to fan suggestions for FS3 being simple stuff like a new ship class or two, not the standard fanboi comments like: "A DYSON SPHER3 WOULD BE SO KEWL!!!111")

Afterall, the Shivans might be having super-uber sized installations to fiddle with the fabric of subspace.

Needless to say, vote for me for FS3 writer/designer! :p

I honestly think they designed themselves into a hole.  The shivans are perfect bad guys.  A little too perfect because they're practically unstoppable.  Can you really say the GTVA had anything to do with them stopping the onslaught, both games?

So after all that, what more can you write upon?
