Title: Edit: We played Blue Planet Multiplayer last weekend!
Post by: bigchunk1 on May 31, 2011, 12:08:46 am
Test Concluded

Be on IRC (https://wbe04.mibbit.com/?settings=b73fe961ed217d9a3cbd9637dc7ba9bf&server=irc.esper.net&channel=%23bp&noServerTab=false) around that span of time and we'll set up games from there

These used to be called public tests, but we've got enough established work to the point where it's turning out to be more of a game night. The 5th public announcement of WIH multi will focus on giving the more complete work a through playthrough, welcoming critiques on overall experience. These game days typicly end up being good fun for Freespace Multi and Blue Planet enthusiasts alike.

We are planning on playing the following missions:
Fleet Battle A/B
Blade Itself
Forced Entry
Escalation
Delenda Est
Plunder
Mars Red
Tev Capship Gauntlet
Rat Defense
UEF Gauntlet
The Plunder
TvT/DF missions

If you have any questions about getting setup, or are unsure about what an SVN is or anything technical. Join the multiplayer IRC (https://wbe04.mibbit.com/?settings=b73fe961ed217d9a3cbd9637dc7ba9bf&server=irc.esper.net&channel=%23multi-setup&noServerTab=false) channel. There is almost always someone there who can walk you through getting yourself ready to play.

BST is GMT +1. It's basically GMT which accounts for daylight savings time, so we add an hour in the spring/summer.

Use this map to determine your timezone

Saturday is unfortunately no good for me. I'm going to be out all day, but I'm free on Sunday. I'll also try to fix Preemptive Measures one final time in time for the test. Hopefully, for good.

An impromptu test session today brought out so many people we had to split into two games. Good times.

Unfortunately I won't be able to join in, as the start time is 3AM where I live.

If the time is way too late for anyone in the far east, try logging onto IRC (https://wbe04.mibbit.com/?settings=b73fe961ed217d9a3cbd9637dc7ba9bf&server=irc.esper.net&channel=%23bp&noServerTab=false) a few hours earlier and asking around. It wouldn't hurt, and who knows, maybe you can find a game.

EDIT: We are considering making a far east test at 1:00 BST for NEXT weekend June 11th. We'll keep you posted.

You can check the current BST here (http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/europe/uk/england/london/time/) and compare with your local time, I find that less confusing than the timezone map

That's a good find. I'll be sure to link it in future threads.

That would be a starting time of 9 AM for PST, correct? If so, I should be able to make it.

North American Pacific Standard time is BST - 8, which means the test starts at 10:00 AM your time. Don't sweat the start time though, it's more of an official start time than an actual one. The main idea is just to get people on IRC around that time. Games should be going on throughought the official time, so no harm in following it to the minute either.

Also, I'll just take the opportunity to note that the test is less than 24 hours away from now.

But PST is GMT-8, I thought BST was GMT+1?

Oh sorry, I didn't explain that very well. BST is GMT that accounts for daylight savings time. So since we account for daylight savings time in the US, you are already one hour ahead of your normal time difference with GMT. So you retain that -8 time difference in the summer with BST.

Note to people in other regions (Australia, Thailand, etc.): It's important to check the map I posted to see if your region uses daylight savings time. If this is the case, subtract one hour from the time listed above and just use GMT. (5:00PM - 8:00PM GMT)

frak

I gotta say it would have been much more fun if my ping didn't suck so much. In Post Meridian I was literally getting >1second sometimes. I never even tried Zacam's game because it would have only been worse.

Was epic fun though, gg guys :D
