I'm still not giving up - Need the community's help
I wanna start off by saying, yes I already know the updates broke the v4 mod for HWRM. But there might be away some of us can still enjoy it.
So I've managed to install an older version of Homeworld Remastered on Steam. Now the current version of Fleet Command v4 on workshop don't work with this older version, but I figured it is probably easier to find an older version for this older updated HWRM I have now, then try to fix the mod for the newest update.

* Does anyone have happen to have stored Fleet Command v4 for version 1.2?
* Or maybe if the devs is still around, and it seems impossible to fix the mod for the newest update, perhaps you could release the files for the FCv4 mod in an older version that works with HWRM version 1.2? Or at least doing that fix should be easy since it's already been done before. Even if it's not on workshop, I'm pretty sure I remember from old HW2 mods were installed differently without steam.

I can confirm that the old ways of installing mods still work with HWRM, just with a few directory names changed. You can grab the .big files from workshop downloaded mods and use them manually if you know what you're doing and somehow need to. But if v4 doesn't work with either 1.2 or 2.0... did it ever work for anyone? I would imagine it must have, but that's an odd situation to be in. In what way does it fail? The hwrm.log file from steamapps\common\Homeworld\HomeworldRM\Bin\ after an attempted run might be illuminating.

Good idea. So here's my attempts.

Created HomeworldRM.exe shortcut, added -mod FSFCv4.big to the end of the target. Mod launches successfully, but the races does not show up. It shows the original Homeworld races, Hiigaren, Vaygr etc and not Terran, Shivan or Vasudan.
When I launch a Player VS CPU Match anyways, it crashes mid-load.

Now, I have an idea why this happened because there is another .big file named english.big. I don't know how to apply it tho because there's already a english.big file in the data folder. So I tried replacing the english.big file with the one from the FSFCv4.
Resulted in the game crashing at startup before any intro cinematic/ads and menu.

Those appear to be the errorlog.txt files associated with those crashes. Unfortunately those are to my knowledge always completely useless, the file that's actually helpful is the HwRM.log file in the same directory, which is over-written every time you run the game rather than generated after crashes. Putting -luatrace and -tracehods in your command line/mod launch options is also potentially useful for diagnosing, they'll add more information to that hwrm.log

(for context, I've spent a lot of time modding HW2 and HWR myself, so I know my way around it some.)

That's the one. Based on a hunch it gave me I grabbed and cracked open the version on steam, which I assume is the same version you're using, and it's definitely structured for a 2.0+ version of HWR. It'll never work on a pre-2.0 version. I'm surprised it errors, frankly, rather than just starting you in an unmodded but working skirmish, but I haven't dug deeply into what's going on in all it's other files so I couldn't be sure what's going on there.

Very interesting... I got some more tests for you.

HwRM1.log = I replaced the modded english.big with the original fresh install english.big. Game starts, music and background is correct for the mod. But in VS CPU it's the original Homeworld races, not Freespace races. I start a match and it crash mid-load.

HwRM2.log = I launched the fully updated 2.1 steam version of the game with the mod and the -luatrace extension. Game loads up, all good. Correct races shows up, I start a match VS CPU, game crash mid-load.

HwRM3.log = I replace again the original english.big with the english.big from the mod Fleet Command v4. Game crashes on launch, no loading screen even. Starts, black screen flashing, back to desktop.


So what do you make of this??
Also, why would the dev of the mod officially update the mod for 2.0, when the update don't work? :S

Maybe you'll fine this interesting and give you good info to. Here's all the devs comments on the mod's progress into the issues for 2.0, until he went dead silent.

The new patch is out. Unfortunately, something broke compatibility with the mod. This isn't the first time a HWRM update has broken the compatability, and usually the game change is a nice step forward overall. I'll be making the fixes to put out a patch as quickly as possible. I appreciate your patience.
And I really, really hope they fixed the desync thing at the engine level.

As of right now, I can't give an estimate to when the mod will be back on its feet. The game's model format got updated, and without the tools to update the models, there's literally nothing I can do at this time to restore the mod to working order. The good news is that we continue to work and integrate all the game's new features with the mod. The change notes will give you a hint as to what we've already done.
But I can already say that the desyncs will hopefully be a thing of the past after this.

An update:
The ships, weapons, and subsystems have been functionally restored.
However, there are a significant number of files that are breaking compatibility. The problems are not insurmountable, but do cause crashes that cannot be mitigated. The process to restore these elements is time-consuming.

To clarify for everyone: The models and underlying code to run the game is fixed and is working. However, the events and markers for all ships has to be fixed for any errors. This is especially frustrating because the error logs give no indication of what ship caused the problem or which marker is the problem. So what I have to do for each ship is go line by line in their code, cross reference it with their model, and figure out which of the segments is causing the problem.
I've been making progress, but its slow.

I don't really know why they'd upload a broken update after the patch rather than leave the old version up, but that's what it looks like.

So, if that's true, then in order to get it working you'd need to do all that. It's entirely possible, the resources are out there in the Homeworld modding community and there are places where you can get help for that process, but it's a big task.

Unless someone has the version from before the 2.0 update process started, or you can stand playing the HW2 classic version, or you can get in touch with the dev and they still have the WIP version, then I think that's the only real way forward.

I suppose it's also possible I'm misremembering when certain changes to the mod structure were patched in and I'm off the mark on the state of the available version. If that's the case, I'm really not sure why you're seeing the error you are seeing with the old engine attempts. Sorry.

You've been a really big help so thank you for that. Contacting the dev might be the hardest part, since rumors from people from both the comments on the workshop and here on hard-light said that the dev got had to deal with real life issues, didn't have the time and no one has heard from him since. I'll give it a try and try contact him and try get the versions you mentioned.

Now, I'm not a modder but I could probably learn, I have the general interest in computers and so forth.. Sadly for me personally I'm already incredibly busy, I only have time to play games maybe 30-60min per day, even tho I should spend that time as well on the stuff I need to work on. I just really love Freespace and the HW mod is amazing imo. I love it. And you're saying it's a big task, and I have no knowledge. Not only do I have to learn modding from the basic level, but the project at hand is a big task, the dev himself was not able to fix in 2 months...

Since you said you're been modding some yourself, maybe you know people within the modding community, that could maybe take on this project themselves?
