Re: An ancient starship(s), buried in the sand: Hardware
The trailer was ****ing awesome. On one hand I'm pretty disappointed about this whole "social" thing, but on the other hand I guess we don't know enough about it yet to dismiss it as either a hollow gimmick or laud it as some new and actually cool thing. It's at least earned my attention, so I'm not going to just give up hope.

Watched trailer, got excited
Read Scourge of Ages' post, instantly lost interest and got bitter again about the current state of the gaming industry and social media in general.

oh my god it's a social game that looks kinda cool what do i do oh i know i will cry about how social games are not real games before the game is even out yeah that sounds right

EDIT:

Looking at what they said about the game, I am kinda intrigued by it. This is certainly one to watch.

Many of us are anti-social or at the very least socially awkward, what'd you expect?

That knee-jerk reactions are known to not being the appropriate response to some buzzwords being thrown around?

Actually it's things like "Long March Industries" that should scare you, but please continue to kneejerk your own reactions?

You'll need a Facebook account to play for the foreseeable future. You can use a fake account, and avoid the rest of the facebooky type stuff. Think of it as the game's login system.

Think of Facebook as the account management system. Just like how Relic used Quazal to provide their network/login/account information.

Not very enthusiastic about the Facebook thing, but... Am I right in thinking that in scale this is a full-fledged game that's tied to Facebook, rather than a 'Facebook game' in the vein of Farmville?

That's a good way to look at it, yes.

All of my this.

Hoping that whole "social" thing is just a buzzword and not a core component of the game, because that would be such a waste of awesome.
People are stupid, therefore anything popular is at best suspicious.

Why you hurt me so much? after seeing the trailer and nifty art  realizing it was a facebook game took away any interest I had in the first place...
By the way didn't seem like a fps trailer at teh start? :P For the first part of it, I was expecting the change from art wheels and iconic scenes to some generic music, ingame footage of some generic faced person shooting another generic person.
