Looks around.....
Goes to the welcome desk
The welcome robot attempts to say hello and then falls apart in a pile of dust
Reads the board "T-V war coming in Jan. 2005!"
Hee Hee :)
Just wanted to know if there is going to be any new kinds of destoyers besdes the Orion, Typhoon, and Hades.

Can no one spell the Typhon correctly? Typhon. typhon typhon
It's an Egyptian god for pie's sake! Not a rainstorm!
-
:wtf: Calm down.
Go to the website, right up front there's the Reliant, and some possible screenshots of it.
All I see are four extremely fuzzy ships to the side; the bigger looking Fenris Which I guess is the relient. Then a installation in the shade of the planet.
I was looking through the screenshots and the one with the GTD Phoenicia has a 3 of Relient ships on there. The Fenris in the back only looks a little smaller then the relients. Unless they are farther back then what the picture shows.....
I did look in the tech room and I can only see the descriptions but, no ships.
One more thing, What are the Vasudan destroyers called other than the Typhon

I am calm. :D You've not seen me upset! :}
And to answer your Q... Goober may or may not be around later, and if he feels like revealing a name (not sure if its been said already or not) then he can say it.
EDIT: After a search, I noticed that it was mentioned once before (though years back)
Thanatos.
That is all I will say.

Saviour.
It's in the wiki.

FS Ref Project.

hm... a reply to a question asked 13 months ago... :)
-
Hmmm... I just glancedat the date. It looked like May 2007. I stay up too late. :D

You guys gonna put Zagreus-class Destroyers from INFA in there?
The Tech Description in INFA said they were the destroyer used before the Orion...... just curious if you're gonna put it in for some continuity. :)
-
No, they're using the GTD Reliant as a pre-Orion destroyer instead.

I thought the Zagreus was the Reliant.

SOME screenies would be in order..even the website hasn't been updated in ...like...forever...

Seconded.

Here's a Zagreus:

And here's the best shot of the Reliant I can give you. :doubt:

-
Oh, so you're sticking with the nasty-looking purple hull plating huh? :ick:
From what I can see, you're also sticking with the off-center hangar bay too......... or do you have one on the other side too?
-
What, the Reliant?
-
yeah, look at the post above mine......... its got that nasty purple plating........
Whenever I look at the Orion..... I automatically think of a black eye.........
-
Well the Orion has that too.
Anyway, the Reliant is obviously a lot different from the Zagreus.
-
Yeah.......... well I guess it shouldn't be too much of a problem........ I've already replaced the Orion textures to something else.
*cough* desaturated *cough*
-
Hey, TVWP staff, can we have a decent shot of the Reliant or is it classified?
-
Yea i want to see it too.
-
James - Yeah me too!
John - And me!
Jasper - Reliant? Hey, I want to see that too. :)
Joe - Cool I wanna see it.
Jimmy - Yar, I want to see.
-
that's not purple..more a bluish color....
-
Ow.
-
Buh, the UNE shouldn't destroy all the Reliants, they should just capture them (or is that an asteroid impact?).
-
Just some rocks to spice up the image. :)
-
Can I have an animated GIF file for a rotating view?
-

Also that looks like a Orion

You'll have to wait, and as the Reliant is the Orion's direct predecessor it should bear a resemblance.
-
So I take it no Zagreus. Even though there's a HTL one now.
-
For all intents and purposes, Inferno and TVWP exist in alternate universes. Therefore you can't apply Inferno's history to TVWP or vice versa.
Besides, I think the low-poly Reliant looks better than the high-poly Zagreus. :D

Still, you could use 3 Terran destroyers. The PVN have 3 destroyers (Thanatos, Savior, Typhon). But the GTA only have 2 (Reliant, Orion). Or are there other GTA destroyers?
-
There are only two planned.
The reason the Vasudans have three is because they needed a counterpart to the Orion, and the first try didn't work. :p
-
The GTA only ever really needed 2 (well 1 actually, the Orion is superior to the Reliant in nearly every way). The PVN attempted to replicate what the GTA had, first with the dual purpose Thanatos, then with the more modular Savior (that really didn't get the point of the Orion). Eventually the Vasudans said "Screw this" and made their own ship, the Typhon. The GTA phased out the Reliants pretty early on into galacitic expansion, Orions were just that much better.
-
Orions FTW!!! :D
-
What ever happened to the Goliath, or whatever that was?
-
Prolly an orion
-
So if I got this right, the GTA will have the Orion from the very start? And the fisheads will make 3 destroyer in an attempt to rival the Orion??
Isn't that a bit too much? IMHO, I would assume the Zods first try to rival the Reliant or hte Orion is an attmpt to overshadow the Thanathos or Savior.. What ARE the GTA R&D and Design department doing? Sleeping?
-
The storyline is still fairly fluid at this stage.
-
I kinda thought the Orion wouldn't show up until the Reliant had a chance to really, truly, and embarrassingly show itself as being inadequate for fighting the Vasudans. Say, '23 or '24 or so.
-
All indications are that the Vasudan warships were generally failures up to the Typhons
-
So? Can't Terrans also have faliures? Are aree we soooooo superior?
-
No, we're just more warlike and like killing each other over oil more.
-
In the FS1 techroom Vasudan warships were heavily critizized... the Aten was actually called far better than "most vasudan warships"
-
No, we're just more warlike and like killing each other over oil more.
Eh? We have plenty of oil, we just are too afraid of offending 1% of the population that doesn't understand that we have new technology that won't disturb the environment. So, we give money to countries like Iran, so they can build nukes and kill people. It's really a shame that the Alaskan reserve wasn't tapped 10 years ago. The then current president vetoed the bill, giving the reason that it wasn't neccessary, as the effects would not help for another 10 years anyways... Meaning he couldn't take the credit for it. And there's plenty in offshore reserves, too.

It doesn't say how good/bad the older Terran warhips were, now does it?
-
Really the only reference made it that the Typhon "has more armor plating than any Terran destroyer"
-

:wtf:
I couldn't really see what you were saying.
-
/me was just whining.
Umm, I'm saying we should have started using our own oil resources, that way we'd not have to be at the mercy of the sheiks, whose populace is dirt poor, even though they make more money than anybody else.
But, we won't use out own oil resources, for fear that the environmentalists would b**** and moan.
And, I"m saying that Congress passed something to allow drilling for oil in Alaska 10 years ago.... but Prez Clinton vetoed it because "it wouldn't affect prices for another 10 years" ie, right now. So, next time you fill up, thank him.
-
And pray tell, what has THAT got to qo with the number and quality of Terran and Vasudan warships during the 14 year war?
-
No, we're just more warlike and like killing each other over oil more.
About what this has to do with it.
-
'kay, can we please get back on topic before the Bleak Hammer of Justice comes clunking down on this thread?
-
Aye! Give terrans a clunky ol' bucket worthy of being replaced!
-

Actually, the idea is that the Orion is a wonderful hull design. The various components are very modular, allowing systems to be removed and replaced with more advanced systems. This follows from FS2, where beam cannons were easily attached to the Orions, so easily that most were still in operation, while the Typhon couldn't be modified as easily.
Couple this with the fact that fighters have removable primaries and shielding systems were easily attached to all GTA fighters, and we can make a leap and say that GTA R&D was focused on creating a modules that could easily be attached to older hulls, the Orion in particular, and thus keep up with whatever new designs the Vasudans came up with.
The Vasudans didn't quite get the point. The Thantos was mearly a mini-Orion (AKA, a Reliant basically) that, of course, wasn't a match for the Orion. The Savior was designed to be a match, but they didn't understand the idea of modularzation of major components and so eventually the Orion was simply refitted and overpowered the Savior, so the Vasudans decided to go back to the drawing board and cranked out the Typhon, which was more than a match for the modern Orion (as evidenced by the Vega Engagement).
If the Shivans hadn't shown up, I feel confident that a refitted Orion would have forced the Vasudans to redesign, again.
-

When would the Vasudans get the point, then?
-
Orion > Typhon any day of the week
IT's simply that much better...far more THT's to blast that typhon with. I wouldn't credit the Eisenhowers destruction to a duke-out with the Typhon...rather a surprise attack by it..
-
The Typhon could easily beat the Orion if you replace its FighterKillers with Vasudan Flux Cannons, which the table says it should.
-
If the table says it should, then why doesn't it?? Or do you mean some table that's not in the game? What table are you talking about?
-
The FS1 table. It says:
$Default SBanks: ("FighterKiller") ;; Should be Vasudan Flux Cannon.
-
But it doesn't have it, now does it? ;7
I hope the TV-War project will re-do all the weapons, since half of them make no sense whatsoever...
-
But it doesn't have it, now does it? ;7
True. The Orion p4wns the Typhon unless the Typhon has VFCs.
-
Or unless THT's acutally do something uselfull... Isn't it strange that both destroyers don't have a single weapons with a "Huge" flag????
-
There was no "big damage" flag in FS1. You could kill the Lucifer with an ML-16 if it was not invulnerable.
-
But it would take years . :nervous:
-
Actually, use a Disruptor or a Vasudan Light Laser or something. Much more fun.
-

I'm not talking about weapons capable of doing the final 10% damage as pergame mechanics...I'm talking about DEDICATED ANTI-CAPSHIP ONLY weapons.
ATM, THTs target everything and suck against both capitals and fighters/bombers... :ick:
-
Ha hem, that's where some nice INFA railguns come in. :)
-
The FS1 table. It says:
$Default SBanks: ("FighterKiller") ;; Should be Vasudan Flux Cannon.
So, the FS1 table says that, what does the FS2 table say?
If they both say FighterKiller, then that's what it's supposed to be. If FS2 says flux cannon, then the Vasudans upgraded their Typons... beam weaps haven't been reverse engineered yet in FS1, remember?
-
There had been a dozens of plans and changes in Fs1 & 2...not all that was planned was implemented...some thing were changed...so it's no surprise...Remeber the Mentus BEAM CANNON?
-
If they both say FighterKiller, then that's what it's supposed to be. If FS2 says flux cannon, then the Vasudans upgraded their Typons... beam weaps haven't been reverse engineered yet in FS1, remember?
Well depends. The first Typhon may have had Vasudan Flux Cannons, but other ones had to be cheaper so they used FighterKillers.
-
Ahem... Where does it say that the Typhon should have FCs?
And what does "big damage" do?
-
If the Shivans hadn't shown up, I feel confident that a refitted Orion would have forced the Vasudans to redesign, again.
That's what happens in Twist of Fate, a campaign I'm working on where the Shivans never come. The Orion is refitted with beam cannons. so the Vasudans build the Hatshepsut. The GTA decide the Orion has had its run and build the Titan and Nemesis, and the Vasudans don't have the resources to build new destroyers anymore.

THTs are actually weaker than Terran Turrets in terms of damage per second.
-
Ahem... Where does it say that the Typhon should have FCs?
Can you read? What's your IQ?

Whaddabout the Ancients?

Whaddabout the Ancients?
Oh, they're still around...
[Kosh voice]If you go to Gamma Draconis, you will die.[/Kosh voice]

I mean, if it says it in the table, why doesn't it happen ingame?

Guess you can't read, then.

WHO CARES!
They changed their minds obviously.... ;7

Why though? Who said it should?
-
1) Dunno.
2) Dunno.
-
Oh...It's just your opinion. I thought that you were talking about a reference somewhere.
-
WHO CARES!
They changed their minds obviously....
No, they probably ran out of time because they're a commercial game studio with a deadline.
-
And you KNOW that for sure? You must be a mind reader...
Oh but wait...that doesn't really make sense...a change that takes 5 whole SECONDS  was canceled becaouse of a deadline!
And here I though tehy cut thing like ballistic primaries for that
-
Considering the enormous mountain of work facing a development studio at crunch time, how can you blame them for leaving out such trivialities when basic things like incomplete beam cannon code (which was discovered in FS1 by Hippo) had to lie abandoned to meet the deadline?
-
Okay, this has turned from legitimate discussion into arguing. I'm closing it.
