Zeta-Ceti Relay, Zeta-Ceti System, 2400

A team of engineers have been assigned to investigate and repair a small section of the very ancient relay after a recent electronic failure was identified, shutting down the relay. As the engineers poked around the still mysterious section of the jump relay, they come across a holographic terminal. They begin to poke at it, believing that it was the cause of the Relay's mysterious shutdown. Unfortunately, they would be responsible in activating every relay in the galaxy, but at a cost.

Soci Relay, Soci System, 2400

A Bal'ran fleet stationed around the relay just recently repelled an Anshari raid against them, while the science team researching the relay were unharmed, they soon would meet a horrible end. Not long after, the relay mysteriously activates, the Bal'ran scientists are questioning how it turned on without any form of physical contact with the relay, but with its activation came out the greatest threat in the galaxy: The Nightmares. The Nightmares ravaged the fleet, but not before getting eradicated by the Soci Battlegroup, but where did they come from? Who are the Nightmares, and why are they so violent and ruthless. Well, in order to answer this question we would have to investigate thousands if not millions of years before this event.

Progenitor/Nightmare War

Long ago, the galaxy was once ruled by highly advanced civilizations, one of them were the Progenitors. The Progenitors controlled a mass majority of the galaxy, and are single handedly responsible in the development of the Jump Relays. But, not long after a ruthless war between an ancient enemy, the Progenitors would be forced to face against a powerful biological weapon known as the Nightmares. The Nightmares quickly ravaged the less fortunate races, subverting them to join their unquenchable thirst for flesh and bone. The Progenitors quickly realized the threat the Nightmares processed and attempted to suppress them as much as possible, while preserving any less fortunate species. Eventually, the Nightmares would overrun the Progenitors by quickly subverting the less advanced races and turning their weapons against the Progenitors. Eventually, the Progenitor Empire would come up with a last resort option to develop the Maxim Drones, their goal was to exterminate all organic life after the death of the Progenitors, but before the Maxims could be put into effect the Progenitors would push the Nightmares back to give the Maxims time to prepare and evolve to counter the Nightmares with strategies the Progenitors couldn't even attempt due to their nature, when the Progenitors finally met their end, the Maxims pushed the Nightmares back through the Soci Relay and shut down all the Progenitor's Jump Relays, sealing the Nightmares outside of the galaxy. With the galaxy now cleansed of the Nightmares, the Maxim's eventually searched for any sign of organic life that would beable to sustain the Nightmares, they failed to find any due to the Relays being disabled, forcing them into hibernation. The legacy of the Progenitors remain, but their race is gone forever, perished by the devil's minions. Eventually, the Nightmares would be released, but the question remains. Is the galaxy ready for another Nightmare outbreak? Or will we fall to their harvest.
