Done everything right, still missing campaigns
Hi all,

Glad to see that WiH has been released. Shows how often I check here out. +respect to all those that got it out there! :D

I've run into something of a strange problem, and have spent the last several hours researching the forums for solutions. In a nutshell, I have no special menu/backdrop/splash screen for Age of Aquarius or War in Heaven. The big one tho is that the campaign files are MIA. Now, I'd had AoA working before, but downloaded WiH to the wrong folder. Obviously that won't work. Tried to move the files out, put them in their own folder (I have all my FS2 mods in their own directories) but that didn't do anything. Finally deleted both folders (AoA and WiH) and re-downloaded the latest version of each off the forums. Also downloaded the latest mediaVPs files, the latest launcher, and the Creative Labs oalinst program. Still no luck. I got nothing, and I've already tried deleting and re-creating my pilots for each campaign. :banghead:

I'm guessing it's something simple or stupid that I've done (or not done) that is causing this. I've been through the troubleshooting threads for both FSOpen and Blue Planet, without finding anything that I have not already tried. Any suggestions?

Did you remember to actually select the mod in the launcher before running the game?

Make sure you have a 3.6.12 Inferno build selected in the launcher and that you've selected Blue Planet 2 as your mod. Make sure all BP2 files are located in /[your FS2 folder]/blueplanet2, all BP1 files in /[your FS2 folder]/blueplanet1, and the MediaVPs in /[your FS2 folder]/mediavps_3612.

If necessary, post a debug log and we can help you sort out the problem. Installation is a little complex but it should be very stable once you've got everything in the right place.

@Shade: Yes, I did indeed.
@General Battuta: I do. I downloaded 3.6.12 Inferno build, but there are a couple to choose from. Does it matter which INF build I go with? neither one do anything different from what I can see.
@Vader: If it gave me any errors, I'd certainly copy-paste it in here. It just loads FS2 normally, and tells me that the only campaign installed is the stock one. No errors. Any thoughts?

You want to pick builds ending in -r or release to play, and -d or -debug to generate debug logs.

Please generate a debug log, pastebin it and link the pastebin so we can solve your problem. That should be all we need.

I'd love to, but I'm not getting any. With the mod selected in the launcher, I run it, and it just loads up standard FS2. Question mark!?

That's not how a debug log works; please select a debug build (ends in -d or -debug) from the launcher, run it, and then navigate to FreeSpace2/data/. Find the file called fs2_open.log, pastebin it, and link us to the pastebin. That should let us solve the problem.

Whenever you run the debug build it generates a debug log behind your back constantly recording everything that happens, good or bad.

Well, he most likely has wrong folder names. Hard to be sure, though, because my eagle-eye can't see the contents of his computer through the intertubes.

Or missing files or something. Really can't tell with what information we have now.

There's your problem. Well, that and the fact that you don't appear to have WiH installed at all, on account of there being no blueplanet2 folder mentioned in the log. And of course the fact that you don't have the required MediaVPs installed either, on account of there being no mediavps_3612 folder mentioned in the log.

Fortunately, the solution is simple: Just install MediaVPs, AoA and WiH.

Now, since you think you've installed everything correctly (which you haven't), I can't help but suspect that you've placed the 'mediavps_3612', 'blueplanet' and 'blueplanet2' mod folders as subfolders of the 'Blueplanet' folder seen in the log. If that's the case, then instead of reinstalling everything, simply move those folders into the 'FS2 open' folder and then select blueplanet2 as a mod in the launcher, and try again. While mods in subfolders can work if the mod.inis are set up for it, the ones supplied with Blue Planet assume all mod folders are located in your FSO root directory, in your case 'FS2 open'.

Well, I downloaded the latest MediaVPs (which were out of date), but aside from that, everything is picture perfect. I have several directories in the root of my FS2 Open directory, and mods I lave added '-mod' to the end of the folder name, so I know it is a mod folder. I have the mediaVP directory, Derelict, Ancient-Shivan war, as well as Blueplanet and Blueplanet 2 folders for mods. Each one has data and files in it. Here's where I am getting royally confused: if I select MediaVP as the mod, it runs fine. If I select Derelict, the campaign is present in the campaign list, everything works fine. But when I try either Blueplanet (which is the Age of Aquarius campaign) or Blueplanet2 (which is War in Heaven)... nothing. Yet the data is there! I'm not getting how the debugger says there are zero files, when the data is there.

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot, like I said, I've tried to figure this out myself. It's just not making sense. And I've tried deleting the mod folders and re-creating them, to no effect. I checked the log after attempting all this, and it was same as what I posted earlier. Blueplanet folder has zero files.*facedesks*

The -only- folder in your FS 2 dir that would NOT be a 'mod' folder would be the data folder.

Any OTHER folder should be considered a mod folder, so please to stop renaming them.

Latest MediaVPs should be in a folder called "MediaVPs_3612" (it can also be "mediavps_3612, it's not case sensitive) _NOT_ "mediavps_3612-mod"

Why? Because all the other mod makers make this file calleda  mod.ini that tells the game: There are other resources I need to load, they are called "this" "that" and "the other". And when you arbitrarily rename things, that breaks.

As for BP suspifically, please to take a screen shot showing your file explorer of choice in each of the BP directories.

Well, paint me in chocolate, progress has been made. However... I get lots of errors when I try to launch the campaign for WiH. Seems like I am missing a huge pile of textures and models?! log below. I warn you in advance, it's pretty epic. *cowers in corner* I broke it good, methinks... lol  :confused: :banghead:

Simple fix: there's nothing in the folder 'mediavps_3612'. See this line:

Whatever you've named your 3.6.12 MVPs folder, please change it to the default mediavps_3612. Let us know if there are any more errors and hopefully we can sort them out too.

Oh, and to futureproof your installation - please rename your Blue Planet 2 folder to blueplanet2.

Oh, I SEE now! It's preprogrammed to look for specific directories, and if it cannot find them... That makes a bit more sense. Let me do some testing and see if it works 100%. Thanks guys!
