Title: Windows and FS2 reinstallation question
Post by: deathspeed on April 10, 2016, 08:44:42 pm
I am about to wipe my c: drive and do a clean install of Windows 10.  I have FS2 installed on a different physical drive.  I know my FreeSpace2 folder and all files will still be there after i reinstall Windows, but will I need to actually reinstall FS2 itself?  Or will just having the files there be enough for me to play afterward?

Thanks!

FSO will mostly work... the only issue might be registry settings. You may need to run the retail launcher at least once as admin to get them created properly.

Firstly, the registry settings shouldn't required for FSO to run at all; secondly, the ones that matter are set by wxLauncher. You don't need to use the retail launcher at all.

No? Curse my poor memory (although I'll contend that running in 1024x768 by default really means that FSO ~does~ need registry settings ;) yesyoucanadd-resbutletskeepthissimple)

Thanks!!  I thought there was something with registry entries with FS2, but I didn't know if they were set by the installation process or by running a launcher.  I'll follow up with my experience after it is done, probably next weekend.

I just realized I never followed up with this.  I've been running it fine after the OS clean install, with no changes other than I had to re-select my options in wxLauncher.
