can you get rid of the stupid platypus nose

tbh i kinda liked the osiris but the platypus nose ruined it for me and makes it look really stupid for some reason imo

The platypus nose stays, as removing it would change the model outlne too much. Also kinda lke it in a endearing way.

Oddly enough, the duck bill is the engine subsystem. Not sure what to make of that.

I think the location of the sensor subsystem would be a good place for some added detail, to give the model just a hint of asymmetry.

Indeed about the engine subsystem, it's wierd but that is how retail model is layed out so..
Dunno about the asymmetry, I'll do some model bits about that at some later point.

popped a aobake render.

Update:
PVB Osiris Wip (View in 3D (http://p3d.in/V70ho))
(http://p3d.in/model_data/snapshot/V70ho) (http://p3d.in/V70ho)

Working around on the underside and top bits of teh detail. Unfortantly the texture around the missile bays are difficult to decipher so progress has slowed down.

love the turrets  :pimp:

yeah I rather like them too. c:

Quick update:
Finished off the hull mesh(Still need to finish off that itnernal cocpit) ,before I start uvmapping I'll need to fix the smoothing and clean up potential bad polygons-
I'm planning to animate all the missile pod muzzles the same way as the amun, which will be rad as hell. c:
It's currently sitting on ~21k polygons.

I am curious... would any problems with the mesh show up when viewed in p3d?  I ask because I see a little of the white part showing through on the bottom of the ship when you movie the view around. Or is that just the way p3d does things?  Am I even seeing a problem in the first place or is that just the way things are at this stage of development? Inexperienced minds want to know!

Thanks for the kind feedback guys. c:
It's rather strange regarding the space around the cocpit, Whenever it was intentional or not seems like vasudans have a warmask like design around the front.
On certain bombers, (same could be said about Amun I suppose.

Yeah, it's supposed to look something like this:

Is the floating bit supposed to be an animated point for the missiles?

It is the mesh for the upcoming animated missile bay opening.

Especially since you're wrong and it's one of the best retail bombers alongside the Amun. See http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83700.0 (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=83700.0). No need to restart this discussion again in this thread.

It'e tendency of people seeing a face with open mouth on the front. While that is not necessary a bad thing..

Wow.  What's your workflow for adding the wear and tear to these textures?

That is just the spect/shine map doing it's job, the texture itself is very clean. c:

Yes, please not. That sort of discussion does not belong in a model thread.

Right. I still see the Vasudan face, though. I really like it. It adds a distinct flavor to FS1 Vasudan ships.

Well it's ingame now. (shienmap still needs a bit of light correction though and missing glass.)
Starting to work on animating the various function it will use.

I would just like to point out that although your textures are otherwise good, I don't care for the way you put white centers in what were originally solid-color glowy bits. What's the deal with that? Similar thing goes for red bits on Amun.

It adds a higher level of intensity to the otherwise a bit boring lights, while I may have gone overboard on it with these lights. Personally I think it adds to the overall looks.

Its there but not on the p3d model, since you can only upload one diffuse per model sadly.
Oh man, the cables! Now that is a good nitpick, which leads up to a really important question..

How are my cables aardwolf?

I love it as all of your recent work. I have a critique though: some panels (particularly on the top) seem to have some white lines that make it look a bit like a sketch-up. Maybe it's just me but I think those don't look too good...

When are these models going to be included in the vp`s?
Or is the individual download just for coders? Because i dont know to what folder to extract files, already tried Games/Freespace2/Data/
and Games/Freespace2/Mediavps_3612/Data/. and not working
Title: Re: PVB Osiris [RELEASED]
Post by: Raven2001 on March 12, 2013, 07:12:13 pm
It goes on the Mediavps_3612/Data/
However, you have to rename the table file "osiris-shp-fs2.tbm"  to "osiris-shp.tbm" :)
Title: Re: PVB Osiris [RELEASED]
Post by: antsa on March 13, 2013, 01:45:43 am
okay changing the name of the table file did work for fs2 but im having issues with freespace port. the model doesnt import to the port version
so before this thing gets out of topic what should i do to get the model on fsport?
Title: Re: PVB Osiris [RELEASED]
Post by: Oddgrim on March 13, 2013, 04:24:23 am
For the Freespace port do the same as you would do for the mediavps folder and use the fs1 table.

Okay i`ve done that. Extracted files from package to /Fsport/Data/, also renamed the table file  osiris-shp_fs1.tbl to osiris-shp.tbl and no effect.
also tried to do this to the /Fsport-mediavps/Data/ folder but still no effect even thought i did everything as the same as the /Mediavps_3612/ and it works fine on fs2,bp,etc. Am i the only one how has this problem or should i kick myself in the face right now?

please just dont get angry on me okay okay? :shaking:
Title: Re: PVB Osiris [RELEASED]
Post by: mjn.mixael on March 13, 2013, 09:31:56 am
Well, the reason it's not working in FSPort is actually rather obvious... so obvious most people miss it. The 'osiris-shp.tbl' you have is setup to change the 'GVB Osiris' model to the hi-poly one.

Now that I've pointed that out, who knows the answer? Anyone? Oddgrim? No? OK.

You need to open your 'osiris-shp.tbl' that you have in FSPort-Mediavps/Data (or wherever you put it) and find the line '$Name: GVB Osiris'... change that to '$Name: PVB Osiris'.. that should do it.
