Title: WCS assets free to use?

I asked this in the release thread but there it seems to have been lost. Since it might not just be interesting for me but for others, too, I open an extra thread.

Is it allowed to use assets from Wing Commander Saga,  like head anis, visual and sound effects, ships and all that stuff, in other FreeSpace mods? With proper credits, of course. :)
