Title: RELEASE - Shadows of Kraken
Post by: Axem on June 26, 2004, 11:00:42 pm
Woot! It's done, my very first campaign. :) Here's a brief snippet from the readme to give you the gist of it.

Mission Description:
In the days after Capella the GTVA sighed a heavy relief, the Shivans and the NTF were effectively gone. Now they begin to rebuild. Your mission today with the 23rd Marlins takes you inside a debris field in the Adhara system to search for savalagable cargo and supplies. Look out for anything suspicious.

What: A 5 mission mini-campaign.
Who: The 23rd Marlins, attached to the GTD Iphimedeia.
When: A week after Capella went supernova.
Where: Adhara, Epsilon Pegasi, and Polaris systems.
Why: Cause I felt like it.

I really really hope it is all balanced and fair cause my joystick recently just crapped out on me, and the mouse and keyboard aren't working out for dogfighting... Anyhow...

Anyway, have fun! :D

(Hopes he did everything right... *gulp*)

I spy with my little eye...:D That was cool indeed.

One minor flaw in M2 - the Towson (or what it was called - and, yeah, I know it wasn't supposed to do that) was destroyed and I got no "Return to base" order.

Apart from that : nicely done. Not the most original, but not bad either.

Good campaign, though I'm still a little foggy on the story...

By the way, Axem, and anyone else releasing campaigns - if you want, we can mirror it on Fileplanet for download, and add an item to the main HLP site for more visibility. Just let us know.

:)

Here's a lil' VP I cooked up for it. Partly because I'm such a neat freak. ;)

Cool campaign. I liked the "I spy" line, too... :D

Hey thanks WMCoolmon. :) I just put it on my site.

On that note, Styxx, where would I need to send it to get it mirrored?

Dang, I wish I was home so that I could play this.  Old laptop can't handle FS2 to my satisfaction, and of course I didn't bring FS2 with me on my trip so I can't take advantage of any more suitable technology... :hopping:

Tried to play this, did everything right in mission two as far as I could tell, got told to warp out, scanned all the cargo anyway... and then it still told me I was inept and I failed the mission...

I had that problem too. After taking a look at things in FRED2, I almost think the mission expects all wings and waves to be destroyed. Cheapish hack-thing: The RTB-event is linked to 'Baddies gone'. In that event is a reference to... wossname, Aries and Aquarius or somesuch. I took it out, and everyone was happy.
Only, I chucked it into other ships' departure-cues, and I ended up on the wrong side of a Deimos when it kicked in. :o Ouch!

Actually, I think the problem was my cheap hack (it was in response to the first problem, no RTB for a failed mission) where the mission objectives were being referenced to events that they activate or some such like that (I don't really know, but I suspect it). Anyhow new and updated file is up. Hope this one works. My testing abilities are limited by a lack of a working joystick, and testing with the mouse is sucky (it's a challenge on Very Easy).

Uhm, I'm playing with mouse only, and sure not on "very easy". It's possible, I've beaten quite a few games and campaigns with it. ;)

I got too used to the joystick, it's much different I find. It is a bit easier to precisely aim, but big turns get annoying when you have to keep lifting the mouse up so it won't fall off the table. :P

That why I turn mouse sensitivity to maximum. :p

Not bad.  I also agree that the ending came rather suddenly.  And blowing that Orion in Mission 2 seems sorta easy to be a bonus objective.

Sorry for the slight bump, but I wasn't able to get the .vp file to work.  I would select the campaign within FS2, but when I clicked on the ready room, nothing happened.  When I extracted the missions and tried to open them, I got an error saying, "FRED2 was unable to open the selected mission."  The same was true with the campaign file.  Since I don't have WinRAR, I can't download that version.

Oops, at first I rared it, but then WMCoolmon made it a zip and I kept it like that, and I never changed the link on my first post.

But as for your more pressing matter, are you using FS2_Open? It sounds like retail FS2 trying to open a FS2_Open mission.

No, I'm using regular FS2.  That probably explains it.

Woo! Nifty :)
I still had problems with Mission 2 not finishing despite me eliminating all the threats to craft I was guarding (I even cranked up the 64x time acceleration until all the transports jumped out!!)

But aside from that, was fun!! :D

Any more in the works? Maybe a co-op campaign...? :D

For some reason mission 2 gave me the most grief testing it. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I'll try to find out what's going on.

As for any future stuff, I have 4 single missions in the works, a Vasudan one, a sub-space one, an SOC one, and a totally off the wall one I'm not sure if I should really release... :nervous:

Thanks for the comments so far guys. :D

Okay. Finally found some time to play this. Only got the first mission under my belt successfully (I was too busy gawping at the HTL Fenris model to shot at it properly :D ) but so far I'm enjoying it.

Out of curiosity, does this still exist anywhere?  Found that this was mentioned in the vassago's dirge wiki page while doing some archeology.

edit: Oh wait, whoops, lol: http://www.freespacemods.net/download_91.html
