(I think I missed something about this update)

The reason is in the video annotations, near the end.  Piston response time is being bumped up slightly, which mucks up the timing of the cannon and would necessitate redesigning the redstone circuitry and shrinking the cannon overall, in order to render it functional again.

An additional reason, with regards to Qaz's server, is that in pure survival mode, acquiring all of the necessary resources to build such a cannon would be a very time-consuming venture.  Heck, just to get all of the gunpowder, you'd be practically forced to build a mob-grinder, itself a time-consuming process, and then wait a very long time to get the tens of thousands of gunpowder drops necessary to fire the cannon.

Right now, pistons extend and retract pretty much instantly. In 1.3, a delay of 0.75 seconds (I think) has been introduced, which makes the TNT cannon work too slowly and causing the TNT to explode before it all gets clumped together.

It will also break some circuitry that relies on pistons...I'm really hoping it doesn't break the t flip-flop, the pure redstone version of those things are massive

Not to speak for Qaz, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the came about due to a cumulative effect that was merely topped off by Trash's recent comments.

I guess it depends on the amount of work invested.
If you only built a single house, ti's no big loss.
Also, it doesn't have to be prevalent in all. It's enough that half the palyers loose interest, and the server will already feel like a ghost town.

Well I invested 139 hours, which is four hours less than you btw, and for me it's no big loss.
As long as I enjoyed the time I spent playing that's all that really matters. If I wanted to build something to last I'd built it in the real world, not in minecraft.

And you could have spent 138 of those hours just frolicking around. Not really getting invested in anything you built.

And honestly, now that I think about it I can't recall any building of yours.

yup, pretty much, there's a few other people I was considering, but they've recently improved.
