Post by: pecenipicek on December 09, 2009, 08:33:35 pm
Rejoice, for SANDWICH HAS COME!

Download from HERE! (http://tap.hard-light.net/downloads/Sandwich.7z)

Unzip, plunk into freespace folder, run as mod(needs media vp's installed under the folder "mediavps" or modify the mod.ini to your preference), run the sandwich mission from the tech room.

Comments very appreciated.

I like how the olive rotates to shoot.  Too bad both of us are invincible.  I wanted a showdown with the sandwich that follows me like a puppy.

At another forum I used to be on they had the Waffle Empire vs. the Imperial Pancakes.

Perhaps it is time for a new war to make it to the belly of the interstellar beast.

White or Wheat!?

(or Rye?)

So chew we all....

Bwahahahahahahahaha!

That's awesome. I didn't think anyone would actually put it in-game!

Now we just need to make an epic mission involving the sandwich, youtube it, and send it to Valve...

With chocolate chip death beams. :P

No, silly...

Cookies don't have death beams, they have chunks. Or clusters. Giant cookie clusters...

...OF DEATH!!!
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Mav on December 12, 2009, 10:04:08 pm
Hmm... implement these as long range cluster torpedoes, then? :)
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Thaeris on December 12, 2009, 10:09:01 pm
Personally, I was thinking about chocolate blobs which burst apart with a lethal shockwave, then spawn into chocolate chip "cluster babies" which are propelled by a nice blue exhaust plume and explode with a flack effect.

 ;)
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich

Nice.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Thaeris on December 12, 2009, 10:20:03 pm
Speaking of cluster missiles, would it be possible to make one like that? That would be a pretty freaky weapon to put on a capship - the cluster missiles on a Moloch are bad enough...
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich

Sounds like a primary that turns into secondaries, I don't know.

Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Commander Zane on December 12, 2009, 10:26:58 pm
Isn't that still a secondary?
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Thaeris on December 12, 2009, 10:30:51 pm
I guess I meant a secondary that would burst, spawn into submunitions, then upon entering into a given proximity to the target, blow up with a flack-like effect. That would be a scary weapon to put on a cruiser or a corvette, really. That would basically be a homing flack missile...

Oh, and here's your chocolate chip...

Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Commander Zane on December 12, 2009, 10:31:56 pm
That should be possible.
Epic.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Mav on December 12, 2009, 10:35:51 pm
Isn't that still a secondary?
Nope, my version is a primary... or at least it's fired as one. The spawned things are secondaries, though, in order to make them homing.

When I tried to create something that spawns primaries another time, it seemed the type-argument wasn't taken correctly... should have spawned a Shivan Megalaser, but instead it seemed to spawn a few Prometheus and Disruptors... :nervous:

@Thaeris:
Hm, there's the proximity-trigger script in the wiki... and explosions of course are doable.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich

And now I give you...

CHUNK!!!

(The .7z file contains the 3D geometry in wavefront object format...)

Actually, the chunk was really easy to make. I started with a 10x10x10 cube mesh, dragged random verticies about, reduced the model complexity with AC3D's reduction tool (which is surprisingly good), then subdivided, committed the subdivision, reduced the complexity, and did a few last optimizations (still not the best, but both the chip and the chunk are under 1000 triangles...).

Might be a good way to make asteroids...

Sorry there, pecenipicek, I'm not too skilled in the texture department. Furthermore, I really don't have the software to make that happen... Though I probably could get the Gimp and start with that...  :P

I'm not sure I ever tried that one...

I'm sure it tastes pretty good, though. MREs are surprisingly tasty... though I'm told the omlette is to be avoided at all costs!  :D

By the way, Zane, what branch are you in?

Peanut blossom mines?

It's a peanut butter (or shortbread) cookie with a hershey's kiss on top.

Pretzels shooting salt?

candy cane turrets with mint bicolored beams?

It's in most entrees, if it's not crackers. The omlette isn't all that bad actually.

Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: pecenipicek on December 13, 2009, 05:32:02 pm
actually, dont do the poly reduction stuff, k? i has a plan. a nasty plan.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Thaeris on December 13, 2009, 05:39:45 pm
The top is already mostly optimized, actually. It's just the sides which I'm smoothing out right now. And, I can always commit another set of subdivisions, which will make a very organic, outrageously high-poly model.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: pecenipicek on December 13, 2009, 05:53:06 pm
if you want to actually optimise the model, you gotta do the poly reduction by hand.
Title: Re: RELEASE: Sandwich
Post by: Thaeris on December 13, 2009, 05:59:04 pm
I know that.

I've already done that so most of the results are of a reasonable polycount. I think the cookie needs walnuts, though...

UBER UPDATE... Or something like that...

Here it is, or at least what I care to do with it. Walnuts would have been a bit more effort than I care to expend, so you'll have to settle for almonds!  ;)
