Post by: LeGuille on October 11, 2008, 07:38:07 pm
Alright everyone, it's campaign time. This is no church social by any means: As it stands, there are 47 missions including cutscenes divided into 7 chapters / Acts. So there is a lot of dedication needed when applying for parts.

I will soon post available parts and samples of the scripts to help those curious to the tempo.

Before applying, please produce at least 6 samples of your voice. In these, I will ask for the following:

A quote of a news headline. At least 7 words.
A quote from an author. Name the author.
Greet your best friend.
A threat to your worst enemy.
2 things of your choice.
Optional: say, "I'm a Pretty Pony!"

Once you are done, send the files to my email or host them on a free file-sharing site. Do not post your samples here, just send them  or a link to my PM box or email.

All those interested may go ahead and have at it. I will take the next few days to go over them. Will post more soon.

I remember Skullar promising me the role of Shadow a long time ago. So I wonder, do you need an audition from myself as well? :)
Title: Re: EACW campaign team -> LeGuille gathers voiceacting !
Post by: Skullar on October 12, 2008, 05:01:19 pm
Actually I already told him I promised you the role of Shadow. :)

I would also like to hear some more samples, I remember having asked you for a sample of your REAL voice ( that doesn't sound as artificial as Lyman Zurga ) your everyday voice. I am sure THAT'S the one that would perfectlly fit Shadow, since he is a pretty laid back guy and doesnt use heavy intonation.

If you want to submit modified stuff, go ahead and do that for your other 2 samples of choice. But yes, go ahead and let me get some samples from you Shadow. :)

€dit: you got the link in your PM box
it's currently one unedited track in mp3 format (recorded with Audacity and my current headset). If you need it in seperate tracks, please let me know and I'll export them into several files.
Hope you can use me, even though my voice doesn't sound as "manly" as you might need it... and since I have a slight accent.....

Let me know what you think

Opps, I should have read this first.

Leguille, do you want me to send those in as well?
I take it the role we briefly discussed is a non-combat one?
Title: Re: EACW campaign team -> LeGuille gathers voiceacting !
Post by: LeGuille on October 14, 2008, 02:06:38 am
Yes. But the whole idea of the part was alot like Vir, and Morgenstern is a lot like Londo. And that's why it was a perfect fit. :)

Oh, and for everyone to know: Please record at the highest bitrate you can, and any file formate is acceptable. I have a secret weapon that reads all of them! :D

Slight update... while I'm up at 4:00 am.

I have a few voice actors lined up, and as many of them are wanting to know: When do we start?

Well, as Skullar has had to revise the script, I am waiting for his go-ahead on the finished product to begin recording. As we are waiting, I ask that those who I have contacted be patient, and understand that the parts you are holding to at the moment may change. There is a lot of voice work, and if the overall character changes, I need to take that into account. Hopefully, this won't affect you.

In my personal life I am in the process of helping my partner adopt his nephew. So, I may not reply to you mediately. But don't worry, we will get this all sorted out.

As it stands, I have a lot of the parts still empty. If you are unsure whether you should try for voice-acting or not: don't worry! There's lots of parts, guys. I still need lots of pilots. We are still gathering voices for cameos and still gathering voices for parts that may have little-to-no meaning at all, but just add to the atmosphere.

I thank everyone for thier patience thus far, and will hope for it to continue as I wait so that you can wait. :)

Hello there !

LeGuille, I wrote you an email.

The script has been revised and is FINISHED.

In theory , we could start NOW. The problem is : We cannot expect from our voiceactors to go through ALL 46 mission scripts and look for lines to record. So, I have started to copy/paste all scripts into ONE document, with all lines sorted by ACTOR.

This takes time. If you have played the first two teaser missions you know how much chatter there is in EACW, and I think the missions have roughly 40-50 lines in average, briefings and debriefings not counted.
Do your maths. lol

So, I think I will have finished copy/pasteing in a few days ? I'll spend the weekend on it.

DONE !!!

DONE !!!

Damn, it cost me the entire weekend, but its DONE !! :)

So, all voiceactors and wannabes, the complete voiceacting scripts ( provided in a super-outlayed and easy to handle Microsoft Word .doc  file ) are available here :

http://babylon.hard-light.net/EACW/files/EACW-voiceacting.doc

Everything you need. :)

Feel free to grab few-liners ( they don't hurt ), you may record anything you want. In case you are interested in bigger roles you might want to check the forum again and ask for roles already taken. Especially, So far, HALE, General Snyder and "Shadow" are taken,
Title: Re: update : EACW campaign team voiceacting !
Post by: LeGuille on October 21, 2008, 06:05:07 am
Alrighty, so now the script is FINAL and we can really start pounding down on parts! Those of you who I contacted can pick parts out of the script that 'you' like. Pick a few, and don't hesitate on which ones to pick.

Major roles are just that: Major. If you really want major roles, please understand that I am choosing people based on thier voices and the characters themselves on who goes best with what. Don't be offended if you don't get a part.

Minor roles are a dime a dozen, so if you've never voice acted before, or don't have a lot of time this may fit your schedule or put you on the map for future on acting!

It's go time.

EACW is coming along nicely, with the most annoying graphic bug fixed I did a lot of fredding the last days, and campaign part 1 is 50% complete.

Plus : The original GEEZER actor has shown up again ! I wrote him an email, but it remains to be seen if he is willing to do his part again, or if we have to rebook the role.

That reminds me.... LeGuille, I have t send you samples of ME, I never liked my voice, but perhaps you find it suitable for any campaign part.

I was freaking out. Lost the DOC file and forgot I could simply DL again from the thread. I kept searching both my mail accounts (trash/junk folders).

Anyhoo, assuming nothing happens after work tomorrow, my only focus will be the recording of all the lines.

Just wanted to let you know.

[EDIT] my lines are done and DL link sent to Skullar, awaiting direction for any re-recordings...

General Hague has sent most of his stuff, and BILL TRAINOR's part is covered as of now :)

Unfortunately, Getter Robo G stepped back from his role "Geezer" due to technical difficulties. Looks as if there is no more an actor doing Geezer....
Updated the list on first page...

I thought your Geezer actor had returned?
Title: Re: update : Nov 14th EACW campaign voiceacting !
Post by: Skullar on November 14, 2008, 06:36:20 am
Yeah, he "showed up", but I never counted on him anyway. He is just as reliable as the weatherforecast 100 years ago, and I had Getter Robo G do the part instead. Getter did a great job, but VERY unfortunately the technical sample quality was beyond salvation, and he does't want to do it all over again ( I fully understand )

Which means my crazy Maniac is still unassigned.

On the other hand there definitely is progress , received parts for Hague and Trainor last day, only a few major characters left.

Title: Re: update : Nov 14th EACW campaign voiceacting !
Post by: CaptJosh on November 15, 2008, 01:01:09 am
I've played that game often enough. I ought to be able to do a reasonable Maniac facsimile for this, even if I normally detest jocks like that.
Title: Re: update : Nov 14th EACW campaign voiceacting !
Post by: Skullar on November 17, 2008, 06:26:41 am
Well, Wing Commander's MANIAC just was a wanker ( I liked him, though, especially coz he reminded me of the good old BACK TO THE FUTURE films, don't know why ??? ;) )

EACW's Geezer behaves like maniac, but it is more of a stress reaction.
At beginning of EACW he sees two of his friends die right in front of his eyes, and he playes the maniac coz he wants to distract himself from his own memories.
SHADOW, the leader of the Alexander's alpha squad, doesn't appreciate GEEZER's attidude, but with the time being he comes to understand his motives, and... finding new friends, Geezer starts to get normal again. Slowly, of course. Geezer NEVER gets normal again.....

In a way, Geezer's character has some depth, although he seems to play the lunatic.

Ever since you brought us RAIDER WARS ( which was a good thing ) you have come to only dropping unproductive one-liners. ( which is a bad thing )     ;)

How about making posts like "Coming along well with my new campaign" or "brought along 23 fredders and 127 voiceactors to help you guys" ?

They should be the truth, of course.... :)

Besides.....

The mission 20 ingame cutscene is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL  ;7

Ever since you brought us RAIDER WARS ( which was a good thing ) you have come to only dropping unproductive one-liners. ( which is a bad thing )

After Raider Wars I ended up being the main driving force (at least until Fubar and Vidmaster arrived) behind producing the final, stable, as-complete-as-possible, game core. You know... the one you're using now. This left me with very little time to write campaigns unfortunately. Sorry about that.

Now the core is complete I have started dabbling in mission design again with a small multiplayer campaign which you haven't played. This worked in some ways and not in others. Generally it showed an improvement in my ability to produce *fun* missions, which is a good thing. I have a WIP script for a large campaign. The problem is getting the different plot threads to tie together in a satisfying and coherent manner. When I get that licked I'll start FREDing it. Meanwhile I'm considering another small mutliplayer campaign for extra FRED practice.

Caught a spelling error in the script. One of Geezer's first lines. It should be Tchaikovsky, not Chaikovsky. Better check that in the actual mission.

Thx, this line is cutscene only, has no text visible on screen... so we can ignore it :)

Title: Re: update : Nov 19th EACW campaign voiceacting ! ( script here )
Post by: CaptJosh on November 20, 2008, 09:25:40 pm
Nope. BTW, I could really use a script that has the lines in context with eachother. It would help me figure out how the interaction would work out so I could better do Geezer's lines.

Adult. Ackermann shouldn't be recorded by people under 30, it is strange if teenagers record samples for characters who are OLD PEOPLE.....

I'm 24 but I can sound like an old person too. Actually it would be harder for me to act young pilots, so I rather do older officers. :) Even very old persons if needed (check the attachment, I act and sound like a 60 year old person without any edit). I'll record some more samples tommorrow.

Edit: I've found a miss-spelling in the script (red "is" and "r" are missing in the script):

Quote from: 27 – General Ackermann
11_37
This is The Earth Alliance Destroyer Achilles to Alexander, you are ordered to stand down by order of president Clark!

Hey, checking in.

Also want to run an idea by the other voice actors.  Since we're going to be working together... or actually our recorded voices have to mesh together, I was wondering if there's any interest in an IRC or TeamSpeak place for us all to gather in our free time.  It could be handy for getting to know each other and discuss the script.

Sent you a PM Skullar. I have all of Geezer's lines recorded for the initial cutscene. I departed from the script some because a number of lines didn't feel quite right. I don't really have anywhere to upload them. Also, should I convert them to ogg-vorbis for you?

So... you don't need me to play Geezer then?

Sometimes I confuse myself a little....

Beefcake, Could you do the SPAWN part ? Spawn has a similar sense of humor, and he doesnt get killed in mission 19 .... :)
So.. bigger role, but also with some neat appearances...

I DEFINITELY need you, man !

Hey.  Sorry to jump in here without introducing myself but I'd definitely be interested in one or more voice acting roles if you still need them.  My default voice is somewhat of an amalgam of Midwest and Mid Atlantic American.  I can attain a variety of different accents and age ranges including virtually all US dialects, most Anglo accents, most Slavic, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, and possibly even some Asiatic accents.  I can do anything from short snippets of combat dialog to long winded briefings and reports.  I can also give different "flavors" of characters including yellow bellied newbie pilots, tough as nails drill sergeants, trashy freighter pilots, seasoned fleet officers, etc.  I can also convey emotion in my acting.  Unless you want me to, I'll never deliver a completely monotonous line.  Email me allies_vs_axis(at)yahoo(dot)com if you would like me to voice act.  I am available until August 4th when I ship out for BCT

As a sample for now, here was a Machinima film I had a supporting voice in.  I did the voice of the General in the voice over scene.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA9tAtDVprQ

I will email the other samples requested when I get a chance.

Skullar, you might want to update that front page so that it lists ME as Geezer. :P

Done.

I am sending for all actors for a status report. The minor roles missing doesnt hurt, but the big ones do. With them present, I can completely fred the campaign :)

I sent you my respective files, however I also remember having a cold while doing some of them, so if need be, I'll voice them again ASAP.

i may not be able to replicate the voice of sheridan, but given the chance, when my mic comes in, i could send you an audio sample of me doing his speech of secession. i can almost perfectly replicate the computer voice, and i may be able to do one of the Anla'Shok voices, as well as the vorlons. i am good at mimicking the kosh voice, but i will need to know if you want the pitch higher or lower than the original kosh.
