I want to start making my first FRED mission but i could use a little help on making it.

Seriously though the walkthrough in the FRED help menu is probably the greatest tutorial ever made

After that click on the link to my FAQ and have a look through the FRED section (lots of hints and tips in there and two more walkthrough/guides by TopAce and Darkage).

The Wiki also has lots of hints and tips.

If you have anything more specific feel free to ask

The only problems i have are with programming the mission and creating and moving backgrounds and ships.

Well i have an idea for the misson but the only problem is i don't know how to put in more ships and put the background where its supposed to go.

What do you mean by more ships? Putting a ship in the mission is as easy as clicking on it's name from the dropdown box and pressing CTRL-leftmouse.

The walkthrough should have explained the background editor to you so what's the problem?

If your default FRED settings are anything like mine, you will need to alter the "view" options to show ship models and outlines.

To karajorma: I dont have the freddocs so i can't use the walkthrough because i have the HOTU version of freespace 2

I don't have any actual missions up for download (I tend to link to the websites like WVArchives and Skippy's campaign list instead). But I keep a copy of everything FS2 related that I download so I probably have got stuff on my HD that isn't available elsewhere

One of these days I'll have a look through it all

As for ideas for good missions I've always wanted to play as part of the Colossus's battle group chasing the NTF out of Sirius, Regulus and Polaris
