Re: Video Game Character/s you cared about the most
I always developed some weird attachments at times.. sometimes always different depending on my mindset/character mindset on a play through. Mainly:

Bastila - KOTOR
Random FreeSpace pilots (I sometimes felt very attached to my generic wingpersons. At one point I was always ordering them to depart so they would not die. Bad habit)
Whole heap of nameless soldiers in Close Combat series etc.
Tali'Zorah vas Normandy (Hothothothothothothothot)

I have weird attachments too. For example, DE from WiH didn't really bother me, but The Great Hunt did because I thought the Prophecy would kill the Bastion.

Current Project - Eos: The Coward's Blade. Coming Soon (hopefully.)

Nothing special.

But I always try to immurse myself into the character/location that I am playing in. So if the character has an attachment to x and x is killed off, by design or luck. I will be affected by it, unless that character had been designed horribly.

I've always been protective of allies in games. I try to preserve as many of them as possible, and enjoy saving their lives. I haven't sent any of my wingmen away though. I just hope they got out in their ejector pods :)

I think it also gives me a decent amount of "escort rage" resistance.

While I haven't beaten the game, I am certainly fond of Justin. Feena was growing on me as well.

Why would you kill Fwiffo if you like him? Or do you just mean if you lost him in battle?

No I made an effort of playing Ur quan with as many different ways as possible due to my love for the writing. Unfortunately this meant I had to kill Fwiffo a few times :(

Re: Video Game Character/s you cared about the most
My favorite video game character is probably Lester Mitchell. He was a randomly generated soldier in X-COM: UFO Defense who happened to be particularly badass. I accidentally took his squad, which was completely green, on a base assault. I must have thought it was a Floater base or something, but it turned out to be full of Ethereals. While his entire squad was going insane and getting mind controlled he pretty much single-handedly destroyed the entire base. I don't know how he managed it, but he ran around with a blaster launcher and a laser rifle and killed at least a dozen enemies before finding and nuking the command center. I extracted him and the survivors and aborted the mission then despite knowing that there were aliens left alive because he was the only combat effective soldier and I didn't feel like combing the entire base with just him.

Ah, now that's a nice story. It got me racking my brains for something similar, but I can't think right now. But just some nobody in a game carving out their own legend as they go along and becoming a somebody is a great thing.

This is my favorite kind of character, and favorite kind of story.
I mean, it's nice when there's a good world to play in, and a story to guide your character(s) through to give them a goal and stuff. But most times when a writer goes and writes a character, they're usually not as interesting.

I've been trying to think, and I probably don't have any examples of actual individual characters. But there are a couple of teams. My Blitzball team in Final Fantasy X (not the Aurochs, I got new players in, none from any of the other teams) who went from a pack of losers to crushing all the other teams.

The other example would be I've played a lot of Worms, and got attached to the team I made for myself, the Worminators.

For a character who does no talking, probably The Skum from Destruction Derby who I've had some epic races with. I love racing him, even though he's a blatant cheat with a much better car than you.

I love that adorable fungus!  Lives underground by the warmth of magma; dreams of spreading its spores throughout the stars to fulfill the wishes of Juffo-Wup.  And it's so polite and eloquent in speech! <3

But fine, maybe you're one of those people, who would prefer to hug a Zoq!  Well, now that I  think about it, they do have damn sexy curves.
You have converted me to Mycon-ism. Let us Juffo-Wup together.

Just don't let the Syreen find out.  :nervous:
If they come, I'm jumping ship.

Whole heap of nameless soldiers in Close Combat series etc.
I recall 3 units that I took special care of.
I once had a german sniper who had like 50+ kills... which is a whole bloody lot for a sniper in CC! He was decorated in so many ways.
Then I also had this american stuart tank that had racked up... I forgot the number but it was in the hundreds of kills and a bunch of light armored vehicles. I took special care to steer this heroic light tank away from any german heavy panzers.
And lastely I had  this one german recon soldier that personally took out 4-5 american tanks. He managed this by shooting through all his panzerfausts and then scavaging the corpses of an american anti tank team that was in the same building. After picking up the bazooka he scored more kills. Though he had suffered through two acts of cowardice in the process.

I don't actually recalled what happend to that tank killer soldier, but the sniper and the Stuart both survived the war.

Ah, I've played that many years ago. I could get my initial squad through a whole bunch of levels intact, but then would get stopped dead at this certain level, they would die, and that whole line of replacements would eventually die after them.

RIP, little guys. :(

I've always been protective of allies in games. I try to preserve as many of them as possible, and enjoy saving their lives. I haven't sent any of my wingmen away though. I just hope they got out in their ejector pods :)

I think it also gives me a decent amount of "escort rage" resistance.

Ditto.

I do it in 4X games too and RTS's... when my ally/friendly empire is on the other side of the galaxy, beset by enemies and being destroyed, I commit my whole empire to it's rescue, regardless the risks.
Just today, I declared war on the entire galaxy to save an empire that was down to two planets. Gave it some of my fringe planets just to keep it alive.

Team player  :)

I have very little experience with 4X, I have Galactic Civilisations, but have done very little with it.

I tend to enjoy stages in an RTS which contain an AI ally or allies much more than me vs. them, and will do my best to support them.
