Yo sup. I love replaying Crysis 2 because it's one of the best shooters ever made (yeah I mean it!) and it looks like a million bucks. But I got bored with the limited challenge and decided to make some Fury AI style modifications to the enemy behavior.
You can download it here (http://www.mediafire.com/file/bbyl77bc9y771v2/Battutamod%20for%20Crysis%202.zip). Stick it in the 'mods' folder in your Crysis 2 install folder.
Usually you can select mods via an in-game menu, but that hasn't been working for me, so I just made a shortcut to the Crysis 2 .exe with '-mod battutamod' on the end.
CHANGELOG
You obviously better play on Posthuman Warrior for this **** to be max challenging, but most of it will still work on lower difficulties.
NEW 2018 FEATURES
Ceph enemies use Armor, Cloak, and Speed modes.
Some CELL enemies wear Nanosuit 1.5A (as seen in multiplayer) and use Armor and Cloak modes.
Added the original Crysis SCAR as the SCAR-L.
Added slug and explosive rounds to the Marshall shotgun.
Added autofire to the NOVA pistol.
Removed the 'mercy rule': the AI will not stop shooting you for a few seconds when your health falls too low.
Health regeneration now kicks in after 25 seconds, not 5 seconds. You'll need to rely on your armor.
Slightly increased the power drain of moving fast while cloaked.
Vastly reduced the power cost of air slam, power kick, and power melee so you can actually use them.
Nerfed the 'deflection' armor perk from 25% damage reduction to 15%.
Increased the alertness and reaction time of the AI
The AI no longer fires in short bursts. As long as they have a clear shot, they'll fire until they have to reload.
CELL troopers got an armor upgrade: standard troopers were upgraded to armored trooper standard, and armored troopers got their bonuses increased by the same amount.
Ceph troopers' anti-cloak ping has a much larger AoE
Ceph troopers gain a ghetto speed mode that they use to zip between cover terrifyingly quickly
The railgun got a lot more ammo and can be refilled from ammo boxes because you only get to use it, like, twice and it's super fun
-
You will know the mod is properly installed because the start screen will say "Press Battuta to Start"
-
Buying Crysis 2 now because battuta.
-
This is a rad idea! I'm eying one of those lovely R480s so I geuss I know how I will inaugarate it now :D

Doesn't that make their guns spray all over the place?
-
I tried to start a Crysis 2 replay a couple weeks ago, but it keeps freezing and crashing about 5-10 min into playing.
-
Doesn't that make their guns spray all over the place?
Nah, they're still quite accurate. I'm not sure how Crysis 2 recoil behaves exactly but the AI seems to manage it very well.
-
I've had this game in my Steam list for awhile, maybe I should finally play it. The story never grabbed me but I might as well give it another try.
-
Updated first post with plans for the next release.
-
I've made a ton of progress - I can swap models, give combatants cloak and armor, really mess around with **** - but I can only get a lot of this working in the game editor. For some reason it won't load my modified archetypes into the game proper...

Seems to be a good tut' for the 'ttuta here (https://www.cryengine.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=308&t=94753), hope that's what you're looking for (3rd / 4th post specifically?).
-
No sry
-
Still unable to crack the archetypes problem. Trying to get in touch with CryEngine support, but given that they're on CE5 and this is CE3, doubt I'll have any luck.
New version posted! Enjoy Ceph with speed mode and an enhanced railgun!
e: if I could crack the entity archetypes issue I would totally make this a hosted project

What I'm getting is that I really should play Crysis 2, since I have it.
-
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed playing it and have replayed it a few times, but I don't share Batt's enthusiasm for Crysis 2. I feel like it kindof destroyed what should have been an epic series started by Crysis and continued by Warhead. With the exception of some consolitis, the gameplay is fun and in some ways improved over the originals, but I thought the story and writing were just awful.
-
The gameplay's certainly more restricted than Crysis 1/Warhead. I think of C1/Warhead as basically '****-around shooters', mini sandboxes, where you're given a toolset and you just run around doing cool ****. Can I kill all these koreans using only stray chickens.
C2 is one of my favorite 'flow shooters' ever. You perform a core combat loop over and over and over and the feel of that loop is just excellent. The game looks awesome and the core actions of using your guns, hitting enemies, and traversing terrain feel about thirty times better than Crysis 1, where you're more of a floating camera than a massive embodied soldier.
C2's writing and story are also, in my opinion, leagues and leagues beyond C1's. C1 is a popcorn summer blockbuster thriller with spectacular environments. C2 is a deeply cynical and metafictional exploration of an 'alien invasion' in which humans are basically rats and all the real action is going on between supersystems.
And with my mod the game is hard enough to really strain the tools you're given :D

-
Well, never played Crysis so C2 is a fresh experience for me regardless.
-
I was a bit meh with subversion of the delta/marine/ranger (forgot which)
-
This thread inspired me to go back and play some Warhead, which I put hundreds of hours into back in the day, and I think it just feels too floaty and fiddly and not-quite-crisp to me. When you shoot a guy it feels like you're spitballing at him. Sound design issue maybe?

And the games' story was done by Richard Morgan. The writing team on C2 was juuuuust right.

Annoyingly I own a disc copy which doesn't work.
-
Finally an excuse to replay C2. Is this mod compatible with MaldoHD mod?
-
No idea.
Does anyone have either a 1.0 Crysis 2 exe or a cracked exe from late in the patch cycle?
-
I have a disk, so maybe? I'll have to find it in my massive pile of unneeded crap in the corner though. Give me a few days. If I don't come back in 5, send help.
-
I haz it. File version 1.0.0-something off the disk. PM me your email address or however else you want it delivered.
-
Yussss you're the best

Let me know if you get it, and if it arrived intact. Email is being a *****. Had to use a "break the message into pieces" option.
Backup plan will be my spam-catcher gmail account.
-
No luck yet. What about uploading it to MediaFire?
-
https://www.mediafire.com/?bt5b0ri1c7skke6
I did append .txt to the file name and later removed it while fighting with the email. That won't actually change any of the file contents right?
-
Thanks! Will grab in a couple days, when I'm home.

7-zip it with a password (which IIRC encrypts the contents), and then change the extension to .txt At least, I think that's what I ended up doing last time I had to send something like that.
-
Never got email to work regardless, and don't need to do that much for mediafire. I just zipped it with windows. Batts will have to tell me if I screwed it up prior to that and if so I'll have to dig it off the disk again.
-
My current theory is that Crysis 2's gamedata.pak file was encrypted in a patch, so it refuses to load altered gamedata.pak files. This means I can't push the mod as far as I'd like — for example, I can't give ordinary Ceph grunts armor and cloak modes — but I'm very happy with what was achieved so far!
-
Tried the mod out, it's pretty tough. But the real killer for me right now is Crysis 2 just dropping down to 1 fps on a whim. No idea why it does that.
-
empathy for the suffering of the version of cryengine in star citizen, i expect
-
I haven't been able to replay C2 for some time. It freezes after 10-20 minutes of play. This is the same hardware I used to play on with the exception of an SSD, and I even turned off all overclocking to be sure.
actually i think I have new RAM too. maybe I ought to memtest it.
-
As far as I've been able to gather it's just a glitch of this version of Cryengine.
-
Bump.
Question.
Why do enemies spray until they reload? That's not how soldiers, even conscripts, are trained. A weapon fired at full-auto would be impossible to handle and be accurate with... unless you wore a Nanosuit, that is. Suspension of disbelief aside, accurate full-auto by normal humans is kind of cheap and potentially infuriating.
That said, I really need to try this mod. Crysis 1, Warhead and 3 were the best ones, I think, but 2 had a charm of its own despite being clearly console-oriented.
-
Because it makes the game more challenging.
The nanosuit is incredibly powerful - between cloak and armor, it's rare for the enemy to get any chances to do real damage. When they do get a window, they need to take it, not love-tap you with a couple bursts.
This is especially important for the Ceph. Without ¡BATTUTAMOD! you can stand in the open in front of a Ceph grunt and it won't be able to kill you, even on posthuman difficulty - it spends so much time moving to new cover spots and doing social animations that your health will regenerate between bursts.
-
I've made some MAJOR STRIDES, everyone. MAJOR STRIDES
Any day now I should be able to upload a new version of Battutamod, the definitive tune-up for the world's greatest flow shooter. New features, of which I am very proud:
- Enemies can now use nanosuit abilities. CELL squad leaders wear the multiplayer N1.5A nanosuits, with tough recharging armor and cloaks. Ceph exoskeletons aggressively use armor, cloak, and speed modes.
- The SCAR-L (Crysis 1 SCAR). I couldn't resist adding it in for nostalgia. It deals less damage than the SCAR or SCARAB on a per-shot basis, but you can pack more ammo and it has reduced recoil.
- New weapon modes. The Nova pistol can be set to automatic. The Marshall shotgun can fire slug and explosive rounds. I'm probably gonna add incendiary rounds to the Jackal for full Terry Crews mode.
I reverse-engineered the nanosuit and Ceph armor abilities from the NanoOps mode, but took the extra step of actually adapting the AI to use them correctly. I think.
If you haven't played Crysis 2, and you are a fan of any kind of FPS, I strongly suggest picking it up on Steam and giving it a whirl. It has an excellent story and some of the tightest moment-to-moment mechanics of any of the linear-level ADS-heavy setpiece shooters which followed Call of Duty 4.
-
Alpha release. (http://www.mediafire.com/file/bbyl77bc9y771v2/Battutamod%20for%20Crysis%202.zip) Give it a whirl and let me know if you spot any glaring errors.

Since I love debating these things, I chime in here.
*Gameplay:*
I think C2 is deeply flawed. While I agree on a good core combat-loop with better moment to moment gameplay compared to C1 on a basic level, it comes at the heavy cost of player choice and flexibility. It even goes so far as to explicitly spell out the combat sandbox via the "tactical visor" and compared with several idiotic design decisions, such as the useless car-kick, it ends up being way weaker than C1. Many players, including myself, blame the "console-dumbing-down"-thing here. I always had the feeling that the game tries to reach for a Halo-like loop and simply falls flat. Most of all, at least to me, it is not endlessly repeatable due to low variety. It also fails to integrate vehicles sensibly.
Why can I not kick other heavy things by the way? sure, tech-reasons but from a gameplay standpoints that is so weird...
*Writing:*
I think C1 escalated the stakes very very compitently and married gameplay+level-design with story well, including the switch to more linear last act. It used a lot of cliches and certainly included some weaker dialog scenes but the overall experience was excellent and overcame the individual shortcomings.
I was really excited when I heard that Richard Morgan was writing for C2. Then came the interviews and trailers that showed NY and it failed to connect with me. I thought: How the hell do they want to connect that to the first, which was solid despite being simple. The first game's ending obviously was an issue, with its silly "next time on Crysis"-style, but simply ignoring it and jumping the timeline a few years felt wrong for me too. But back to the writing:
C2 is obviously strongly interested in transhumanism, exploring super-soldier themes for real instead of just dealing with a power fantasy. Fusing technology, brain scanning, cryo freezing, supposed immorality (of at least "something resembling your consciousness"), all great themes. The problem here are the Ceph, who now have a name, and the fact that C2 just plainly does not want to connect to C1. It goes out of its way to not connect to C1. It basically, at least borderline, reconns several ideas and plot points from the first game, ignores pretty much all the alien story beats (who are now just sort of there) primitive as they may be and has a terribly broken messiah-undertone.
Your walking dead-guy character of Alcatraz who lends Prophet his body is but a walking tool who switches his boss every act via agency lacking cutscenes. I never felt as ANYTHING was propelling me forward, neither from a story nor a set piece perspective as everything unusual allways happens in these cutscenes.
Plus, I am killing tons of dudes and sometimes major antagonists without personally knowing what the game actually wants me to feel here. Am I an anti-hero? Are these people bad? Good? What are they at all? Why the **** am I doing about 50% of this, the only reason the game comes up with is because the boss-character of this act tells me to and considering that I am supposed to be the technology-messiah who will cure and save all, my character not doing anything of his own intention. I feel Prophet does not even have any intention over at least half the story other than fix-the-world and absolutely no clue on how to approach that goal.
Disclaimer: I have not yet played the mod (which will certainly fix some of Crytek's design ****s) nor have I played the original dub of the game, it is possible subtext and meaning are lost in the German translation.
 I strongly recommend everyone with 1h of time and interest in Crysis to watch Noah's video on the topic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi6yFMaURy0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gi6yFMaURy0)
I agree with most of the points made there.
-
Crysis 3 neatly explains all the differences between the C1 and C2 aliens in a way I admire (and flatteringly it followed some of BP's fiction about the Shivans (not on purpose of course, just coincidence)).
Alcatraz does whatever he's told because you don't play this game as Alcatraz. You play as the nanosuit, which always tries to achieve its objective.
-
Basically it explains the FPS protagonist as a paperclip maximiser, except the paperclips are bodies, amirite?

Hey Battuta
The mod folder's name "Battutamod for Crysis 2" ensures that the mod does not load. I renamed the folder to "modtuta" and then it did load!
-
Fixed!
-
Thus far, I am having a lot of fun with it, but there's a few issues atm:
1) The Nanosuits on the Cell leaders is a neat idea, but it's not all that well implemented at the moment. In particular, when the cell leaders use cloak mode, the blueish outline simply highlights them, even trough heavy smoke that would obscure the regular CELL soldier.
2) The enemies ocasionally seem able to spot you trough walls!
-
Cloak only seems to work properly at night.
-
Can you add comedy suit voice?
-
Hi, thank you so much for making this wonderful mod for crysis 2!!!!
I actually got an itch to replay this amazing game, I had been using your mod for a long time but it suddenly stopped working, I had made my own little modifications to it to make the game more difficult by making the enemies harder (increasing the health -> 1000 this is crazy xDD).
But i later realized that my modifications were not working because of the update of V1.9. Could you please tell me how you solved the issue of modified entity archetypes not getting read by the game. I would greatly appreciate it. I enjoyed playing with your mod + my modifications on the old version of the game (directly placing files into the gamecrysis2 folder) but I recently upgraded my system and the dx11 update is just amazing with the game.

Only just saw this :-) I remember completing Crysis 2 twice on my PS3 back in the day. I found it too easy even on the hardest settings, and that was with crappy console controls, so I figured that with gaming mouse and keyboard it would be a walkover. Sounds like this mod may change that and actually make it worth playing :-)
-
C2's writing and story are also, in my opinion, leagues and leagues beyond C1's. C1 is a popcorn summer blockbuster thriller, C2 is a deeply cynical and metafictional exploration of an 'alien invasion' in which humans are basically rats and all the real action is going on between supersystems.
Not to mention the novelization was done by Peter Watts.
It was!? Well that's going on the reading list then :-)
-
Quick question - are you planning on putting this up on ModDB?
-
The novelization is delightfully horrifying. It gives the events in the game so much more context.
-
I have been playing this recently. :) Definitely a big improvement over vanilla, and adds a dose of sorely needed challenge - even posthumam warrior difficulty is too easy on Vanilla. It causes a few funny graphical glitches - the nanosuited Cell troops have a tendency to freeze in mid air when they die, but they cease being physical objects so you can clip through them. Unfortunately my play through has hit a brick wall - the dreaded Semper fi or die bug which Crytek never bothered to fix. :banghead: I have restarted the chapter with and without the mod but it keeps happening . Can I ask a small favour? Does anyone know how to get past this bug, and if not, does anyone have a save file with the levels completed they are willing to share, then I could start from the next chapter ‘Corporate collapse’. Many thanks in advance :)
-
Is that the stupid bug where the prompt to take the weapon doesn't appear?
-
Is that the stupid bug where the prompt to take the weapon doesn't appear?
Nope, a whole other stupid bug where ceph shots appear out of thin air and nothing happens. :p Same one as in this video from nine years ago because the devs couldn’t be arsed to fix it despite it being encountered by a lot of people. https://youtu.be/ilq_p5OXS60
-
Sorted it now. A very helpful Redittor gave me the console command to skip to the next level.
I notice the PC version even without mods is a hell of a lot buggier than on the PS3, which is what I first played it on ages ago. Bloody pi$$ poor console ports. :hopping: Still not as bad a port as F.E.A.R. 2 of course
