Title: ummmm, yes.....HELP!
Post by: admiral_wolf on November 12, 2008, 05:27:46 pm
How is anyone meant to complete the mission where you escort the fleet through the Knossos portal.  I get up to the point where the GTD Titan class jumps in at 34%, but then it gets wiped out by the Ravana chasing it.  Is it an idea for me to not race towards the Knossos and hang around waiting for the Ravana to come so I can take out the Beam Cannons?

That's 'Forced Entry'.

The key to taking out the Ravana, if you make it that far, is to be packing Trebuchets. A couple of them will take out the forward beams.

Make sure you have the fixed Ravana model. After the forward beams are down, take out the rear stinger beams if you have any missiles left, and then let the Temeraire do its job.

I found that one particulary challenging also...here's some tip:

You might find useful to use the myrmi in this mission, load it with trebuchets (and balor on the 4 cannon slot) as General said and dont use them untill you see that ravana entering, unload with double fire on the front and back beams until you have no more trebs and then charge against bombers and fighters.

Yea use the trebuchets I concur. The Temeraire didn't really do anything afterwards though, in my game the Ravana had to be destroyed by fighters. I was expecting the Temeraire to turn around and blow the crap out of it but it did nothing.

Give the man a cookie. Disarming the Ravana is exactly what you're supposed to do.

Use myrmidon, pack in some trebs.

You probably missed the fact that the Temeraire launches salvos of heavy torpedoes. There's no way the fighters in that mission could take out a Ravana on their own, I think.

Well, Delta wing is there along with the Yurok and Navajo. They might be able to take down a Ravana if they're well escorted.

Do you mean that when the Ravana jumps in, you just stand there, stare at it with a mean face and hope it will go away? I suppose that might work if you look evil enough. But the more efficient option is to take out its forward beam cannons.

Standard Fighting Destroyer Protocol: Take out main beam cannons.

That pretty much sums it up.
It'll happen again.

Meh, Sam pretty much makes it one of the commandments by the time the campaign's done...

That's not even the tough one, at least you can do it from a distance in Forced Entry. Playing on insane mode, later on in the campaign, there's similar moments where you're just flying forward thinking to yourself "This is freaking suicide, this is insane, this is sadistic, oh hail Mary...." etc etc. Amazing campaign though, I just finished it yesterday and loved it.

kept trying to beat forced entry on medium,

21 failures and counting. We're almost there, pilots.

Forced entry is uber-hard on very easy. You have to be a super ace to get it on higher difficulty levels

For me the duke keeps on getting killed.

For me the duke keeps on getting killed.

First go for the fighters order your wingmen to destroy them all, then go for the first rakshasa, again order all your wingmen to destroy it, after that go for the second cruiser, fire a treb to it's beam turret and order your wingman to destroy it, inmediately turn to the duke and burn your thrusters till you get those fighters incoming, if you kill 2 of those the duke will surely live through.

Just keep one wing guarding each ship that jumps in. Wingman control is key.

Focus your efforts on cruiser main beams first, then on the waves of Aeshmas -- those things are very good at killing the Duke.

When the Sanctuary jumps in, have all fighters defend it. When the Temeraire jumps in, have all fighters defend it, and wait nearby to take out the Ravana's forward beams with Trebuchets.

Alright here's my strategy guide for Forced Entry on insane. I pretty much have that mission memorized because I failed to save the Temeraire so many times (before I realized you could load up trebuchets) or because my game kept freezing (before I removed the advps). That and I stubbornly refused to lower the difficulty to Hard. Ended up playing it 20 - 30 times, lol.

Spoiler:

1) Close with the Maras. At distance 3500 order the wing to engage but be sure you order them at the same time to ignore BOTH Rakshasha cruisers.

2) Call in Delta Wing when about half the Maras are down. When all the Maras are down order all wings to attack the nearest cruiser. Be sure you get into formation and attack the cruiser with the rest of the group, this minimizes your chances of getting hit by an AAA beam that might take out your coms or sensors. If that happens restart. Turn your attention to the other cruiser and concentrate all fire, they go down pretty quickly under this barrage.

3) By the time the second cruiser goes down you should be between 1:50 and 2:10, somewhere in that window. Order all squadrons to defend the Duke, it may or may not have been hit by a cruiser's main gun (depending on how fast you worked) and could be at either 100% or 70% hull. It may take some hits from the attacking Shivans and go down to critical hull but your guys should be able to save it, I never lost the Duke.

4) The Duke is safe at this point. When the first cruiser jumps in I order ALL fighters to destroy it immediately, save for one fighter from either Alpha or Beta (someone relatively undamaged) to help me defend the Leb. With this pilot defend the Leb from bombers and for god sakes watch out for those torp shockwaves. After the cruiser goes down order everyone to defend the Leb, more attacks on the way.

5) And now the hard part. Bretonia and Solace jump in but the Sanctuary and a Lilith are right behind them. Here you use some discretion and keep an eye on your readouts. Alpha wing defends Britonia, Bravo the Solace. Sanctuary's wings ordered to engage the Lilith's main beam and you follow them. Do NOT attack the Lilith on your own because you will get plastered. It'll get a shot or two off at Sanctuary but maneuver into position and hit its main beam with a trebuchet from range and continue with guns until it goes down. Once the beam is destroyed ignore it because it's helpless.

6) Now the harder part. When the Temeraire jumps order everyone to defend it. Depending on the situation you MAY want to leave one fighter defending Britonia or Solace but they can usually handle themselves at this point. Try to keep the Temeraire from getting hit, it'll need all the hit points it can get soon. When the Ravana jumps in have a fighter or two cover you and go for its beams with trebuchets and start firing. Destroy them all.

7) The Basilisk wing is probably going to be really, really mad at you for defanging the Ravana and they're going to attack. Don't try to run, turn into them, and use your countermeasures. If you run out of countermeasures then turn into the missiles. Order your wingmen to cover you. The hard part here for me was living long enough for your wingmen to save your butt. Keep equalizing your shields and turning into the Basilisks so they don't get you in their sights. Try not to collide. With luck your wingmen will save the day.

8) Cheer and be merry. I survived this with 20% hull and with nav and weapon subsystems both destroyed haha. Incurred most of the damage from the Basilisks at the end.

Why not summon your destroyer as back up, Wolf? :p

Even having 1000 Seraphims armed with helios bombing it, your Galatea will never die . . . plot armour!  :p

You can (almost) ignore the Solace completely. Even if it gets attacked, it never seems to take heavy damage. You have to worry about all the other ships, though.

Almost! It got its engines disabled in one of my games though, so I just always dispatch some fighters to protect it just to be on the safe side.

I had the same problem with the Bretonia once. Somehow, it got disabled. :wtf:

It's so annoying whenever a primary escort ship gets disabled.
Always forces me to replay the mission from the beginning

Yea I know. Another annoying thing that can happen is if you get your coms taken out and your damage carries over to the next mission. I had to replay BP's last mission from the simulator so I could see all the dialogue b/c my coms were hit in the big battle in Universal Truth.

But whatever. You just have to be careful I suppose. It does suck a lot when an escort ship gets its engines taken down though. I'm not sure if you'd have to replay though. The one time I saw the Solace gets its engines hit in Forced Entry I didn't live long enough to see the effects it would have on the mission's ending. The Temeraire had already jumped in though so I imagine that the mission would have ended regardless as the mission's ending seems to be triggered by the Ravana's destruction and not all escort ships making it to the Knossos.

Oh yeah, sometimes its quite funny. Like in Derelict where you attack the Meredian and Sai with the LoneWolf, you manage to destroy the Meredian before IFF Status is changed. Then the Meredian appears in the next mission.

You see it and  :wtf:

Same can happen in Transcend aswell, if you manage to take out the Fenris before it's time.

Which means that precautions have to be made by the FREDder.

Like protecting the ship if its hull drops below a certain point. I ran into the Sai being saved, but then blowing up in one of Derelict's missions one time through. Got the text for succeeding AND failing on the debrief. It was messed up.
