Title: The 158th is hiring freders! 8/22/11
Post by: shiv on April 02, 2008, 08:42:53 am
Hi!

I'd like to announce that 158th is now hiring freders and mission designers willing to help.
Currently we need ~3-6 freders in our team.
He're requiments that you should fit if you'd like to join us:

I'd like to see advanced fredding, very extended missions that aren't only action packed dogfight, but a good show of new SCP features and various dialogues. I'd be appriciated if fredder could make something more than just mission script, but it's not so much needed anyway ;)

If you'd like to join us post here. Mission example appreciated :)

EDIT:

Hey guys, everything in this post still holds true, even as of November 2010! Except I doubt Shiv wants your missions anymore, so if you're interested in FREDing for us, send a mission that demonstrates familiarity with the ideas listed above to [email protected]!

Right now we're looking at around 12 missions per act with a minimum of 3 more acts, but don't be afraid to apply if you think you've only got time for a mission or two; we need all the help we can get.

Thanks!

thesizzler

EDIT2: August 22, 2011

Hi everyone, all of you that frequent this board, we're still in crippling need of FREDders. If you haven't yet, check out this thread (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=73514.0) to see what ITNS is all about. Refer to the above information to see what we're looking for, if you feel you would like join us and FRED (or FRED and us depending on how you feel about FRED) don't be shy about inquiring.

Actually, I can't develop, because I'm not so good in programming... But I can create some kind of campaign (missions and dialogues)... If you need me, just reply or send a PM

Try to have examples of that, if at all possible. Like if you've worked on a project for some random game before, point us to that, or a short story you've written, whatever.

  • Variables usage
  • SCP Sexps usage
  • FREDer should put efforts in mission replayability

I think I could do that...  :wtf: Is there a specific Freespace or FRED that I would have to run? (example: FSO, FS2, Fred2 or Fred open and so on?)

You mean a specific build of FRED2Open? As long as you're not using a really old build, or the retail FRED2, I don't think it matters much. :)

Yeah. I just want to you to show us your mission example and if it's good you're in. I also want to make sure you won't just leave community and disappear sometime becasue you're pretty new to the community.

I know I'm new and why there may be some concerns. I don't intend on leaving soon as I really enjoy Freding even though I suck at everything else (Modeling and such.) Right now I'm working on a mission but I'm not sure how to get it on the forums while it can still be opened. If I can get it up I hope it'll pass the requirements...

I downloaded from Turey and I'm using the retail Fred 2, however I haven't tried Fred2Open yet. Is that the only one that would work (Fred2Open) or can I still use the retail fred2?
Title: Re: The 158th is hiring freders!
Post by: Spicious on September 09, 2008, 11:38:14 pm
You will most likely need a recent build of Fred2open; any 3.6.9 or 3.6.10 should be fine.
Title: Re: The 158th is hiring freders!
Post by: shiv on September 10, 2008, 09:36:22 am
Recent build (3.6.10 branch) is needed to work with us. We're using many fs2_open features including skyboxes, hi-res dds maps and other ones what aren't supported in retail FRED 2 Editor. Switching to the fred2_open version has mostly adventages and it makes fredding much easier. Also there's a lot of new fs2_open-only sexps that we may be using in 158th's missions. So fred2_open is a "must have".
Title: Re: The 158th is hiring freders!
Post by: dragonsniper on September 10, 2008, 05:11:53 pm
Ok. I've used the retail Fred2 the whole time, however I'm sure it'll be easy to switch to Fred2Open. I've taken a look at the SEXP usage and there is a little more to get used to but it shouldn't be to hard. And is it okay that my test mission was made in the retail Fred2? I've had some errors when I try to open the project made with the retail Fred2 in Fred2Open. Is that normal or should I switch to Fred2Open for the rest of my missions?

I have the Freespace2_Open_3_6_10 but I only have fred2_open _3_6_9. Do you know where I could get fred2_open_3_6_10 so I can look and get used to it, or will 3_6_9 work with what your using?

- Download (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,54952.0.html).
- Extract with 7-Zip, WinRAR or other archive tool capable of handling .7z files.
- Place .exe files to \freespace2\.
- The fred2_open_3_6_10.exe is a 3.6.10 FRED.
- Enjoy.

Okay :) I played it.
Good to see that you're intrested in FREDding :)

Unfortuneately those missions don't present FREDding skills that are good enough to be our project FREDer. I'd like to see something more than simple, unbalanced  mission with very poor plot :( I suggest joining FRED Academy instead and getting more practice :) I'm looking forward to see your appliance once more when you'll be more experianced FREDer :) Anyway, good job.

I hope you don't mind if I try again. The plot may be a bit unbalanced, but it is coming from a campaign demo I'm going to release within the next week (I hope.) :)

Well, if there's any point.

If you would like to, download this: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.462

Then follow the steps for this: http://www.freespacemods.net/download.php?view.464

It's a remake of High Noon by myself, so it's just a BoE in short, I'm working on the balance at the moment. It's by no means a highly sophisticated mission in which the player is on a covert recon mission in the nebula trying to evade enemy patrols to get scans of comm nodes and they suddenly get discovered and the player has to skillfully use reinforcements to destroy all evidence of they're existence (however I could FRED one if you were interested), but it's about the only thing I could really be bothered vp packing etc.

Okay. I played both missions and I've got some comments on them :)

@Dragonsniper: You have improved your fredding skills since your last appliance to join the team. I didn't understand anythign about plot in this mision. And I think that at this moment I can't let you in, because this wasn't enough, honetly. There wasn't any intelligent dialogue, very, very poor balancing and there weren't any backgrounds in the sky. Try to work on your plotline, dialogues and balancing and I think we'll let you in as soon as you improve your Fredding skills.

@Dilmah G: I was very impressed by the things you did in your mission. There isn't many endorian type missions that really rock. And your mission rocked. It was very well balanced, it's cool you used custom music. I can't find any bad points in this mission except a moment when Colly and Sathanas collided with themselves. But that's only a minor bug. I think that we need FREDder with skills like yours and if only Thessizler agrees, you're defineately in.

Really, everything in the first post still applies. We are willing to forgo experience in favor of demonstrated ability or even creativity, though. Still, this is the only thread with that sort of post at the start that I can just bump until I've clarified to a point where I can post it elsewhere, too. :p

Hey!

I've never acutally FREDed, but I do know my way around, especially with the SEXP's, I used that to figure out what I was doing wrong on a particular mission.

Also, I am quite artistic and if you tell me what system or planet a mission will take place next to I can get those BGs up real nice.

Furthermore, I have this thing about organization and not leaving things unfinished, so my briefing setup should be damn good. (SHOULD... arrr...)

If you don't believe me I can make a sample of wat I can do. or just send me what you want in one of your missions, and I'll set it up and send it back for review.

Grammar is not a problem for me btw. Although my forum posts do not suggest it.

I think I can help. I know my way around SEXPs and tables, I'm average with cutscenes, can work out the mission chatter and variables. The only thing i totally suck at are briefings. But if you're looking for revolution in ideas, I'm your guy :D I started creating of racing campaign instead of combat solo, and I can see the use of it in a combat campaign too. I'm linking to a video.

I'm working on getting an online portfolio up and running, but haven't gotten further then uploading this one project.
I've been prioritizing school for a couple of years now, and going into my last semester in composition/arranging and sound-engineering i was hoping to get my hands dirty with some non school-related projects.

Anyway, on to the thing. This is an animated short i was working on a while back. The film (including music and voice-over) was never finished, but an uncompleted, unarranged, score can be heard in this clip. This version was made to give the director some music to work with, and while fairly rough, it helps set the tone of the film. The rest of the sound is here.

Short Film (http://s1237.photobucket.com/albums/ff470/LeifKielland/?action=view&current=bc1149bc.mp4)

Edit: I realized it would be smarter to link directly to the video then to my portfolio.

I'm afraid we don't need sound artists, at least for this portion of the project. What we have planned will utilize FSPort resources with slight to minimal additional resources, in theory minimizing time needed get that stuff working. There is good probability that we'll end up needing sound work later in the project, but that is going to be down the road a ways.
