Was all that gobbledy-guck before the crash about putting TVWP on ice an april fool's joke or what? The thread seems to have dissapeared (along with all the other non-FAQ threads)

It was an April Fools joke.  As for the rest of the threads, try setting your forum display options to show more than 30-day-old posts.
