I can't wait for this to be completed.  Of course, I could always spend the ten bucks on fs1 packeged with ST myself...but, who knows when I'll be going back to the mall.  Actualy, I'm suprised HLP is hosting this project with the possible legal issues...but hey, I'm not complaining.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Well I'm not going to sit around and let this rot. Act I is ready for download! I'll update the page soon with the link. Act II should be here by the end of the month. I'll post instructions on how to extract the voice for all yous with FS1.

You could, but FS1 isn't in Hi-res! Seriously, you should buy it because then you'll have access to all the shifty nit I'm including for FS1 owners. As for legal issues, well, first off you need FS2 to actually use it and FS1 to get the full experience, so I'm not cheating anyone. Besides, Dark contacted  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/v.gif) when he first did his ports and they really don't care. I doubt Intercrap cares either.

I have an installer program that I'll use for version 1.0. Right now I just want to give the community something to check out. I'll also post directions on extracting goodies from FS1, though I don't think I can make an install program do that.

We can have unlimited hosted projects - the only screening process being wether they're suitable for us or not (must have mods and so on). That said - the forum has reached its maximum capacity for sub-forums so new hosted sites will have to go without untill we upgrade.

We can continue to host, but as T said, the Forums will be late coming. We don't want to risk further forum instability, so we're going to have to hold off on the new forums for a little while.

I'll just quote from my other post here, in case the admins didn't see it:

Hey HLP administrators; would you agree to host a campaign file on the server without any website? I have almost no experience or knowledge in website design, but I currently have no reliable place to put my campaign. (which is as good as the main FS2 one, and if you have any doubts as to its quality, download the test version!   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif))

Either that or I should start learning some HTML...   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

I should probably design a website for this (after learning some HTML), but I could spend the same time making more FS2 missions instead...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Well, tell you what. Buzz someone around here (Cobalt, for instance... he's l33t!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)) and tell him what you need with a website. If it's pretty basic, I'm sure he can hammer one out for you ( (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)) pretty quickly... because he did the Array, which I consider pretty complicated, in lightning quick time. He comes recommended, but knowing him, he has lots of l33t things to do around the place, so be nice to him...  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

AI is always goofy- wingmen initial orders causes problems sometimes, so you'll need to tell them what to do. They -always- bump into things too. Not my fault. I used a clean install several times and it helps tremendously, just remember to get the FS2 update from the website. Oh, and one more thing...

ACT II NOW AVALIABLE!!!!!

I know these are beta files but could you replace the Hygeia support ship with its FS1 counterpart, the Centaur? It was kind of funny to see a 2367 support ship pop up in what was supposed to be 2335. The Centaur model still exists in the FS2 VPs so it shouldn't be that difficult. Another thing can you put the FS1 Demo version of "Eve of Destruction" up for download in FS2 format?

I'd love to put the Centaur in as the support ship. The table entry is there, as well as that for the Scarab. What FS2 does is look for the first support ship for the species in the table and uses that. So, if you want the Centaur, stick it in a mission you make. Or if you want it to come in when you call for support, put its table entry before that of the Hygeia. (Ditto for the Scarab.) The reason I didn't is because if you try to rearm in multiplayer, with people who don't have the mod, the game will crash because they don't have the Centaur table entry. Compatibility with FS2 is extremely important to me.
There is no way to post an FS2 version of "Eve of Destruction" because it shows off the Apollo, Anubis, ML-16 and other groovy stuff. An FS2 version would have none of that so it wouldn't even be the same mission. Sorry. Try the two FS2 compatible multiplayer missions instead- get the word out on PXO.
Thanks for your support  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

nonono, I think you've missed what I meant. I played the FS1 demo to death and was disappointed by the abridged version of "Eve of Destruction" that was in the full version. I've even hacked the FS1 Demo campaign into my copy of FS1 because I like it so much. What I was asking for was a version of it that utilises your mod as opposed to a version made using FS2 ships and weapons (which would suck big time).

edit: Another thing: May I ask why was it necessary to rename the table entry for the Bastion? Aren't they effectively the same ship (complete with a "GTD Bastion" name plate above the runway) between FS1 and FS2? I remember wondering when I played CotT2 why in the 30 years the Bastion had been in service its weapons had never seen an overhaul...

OH, now I see. Well, I never got the FS1 demo since the full version (on DVD-ROM) came with my present computer. It's what got me hooked. So, if you can send me the FS1 hacked version, I'll convert it to FS2 with my mods. I put that mission up for separate download when my site first started, and I didn't have entire acts ready yet.

Yes, the Bastion in FS1 and FS2 are the same ship. The model, as well as that for the Galatea, was modified from the default Orion to show the nameplate. I renamed the table entry so everybody could use it in FRED2. (Remember to get the fix mission for Titans II.) Do you want my personal opinion why the Bastion was never overhauled? Too bad, you're getting it anyway.
After the destruction of the Lucifer, the Bastion was known throughout the galaxy as the ship that won the Great War. The loss of such an historic ship would be catastrophic, so it was decommissioned and put into drydock in Beta Aquilae, the GTVA capital, as a museum for the Great War. They renovated the interior and made it a tourist destination and memorial for all those lives lost. When the Shivans came to Capella, and the plan was hatched to collapse the jump node, the Bastion was chosen for three reasons: One, it was relatively empty, without all the upgraded weapons or crew. Once the artifacts were transferred elsewhere, it was relatively easy to pack the empty hull with meson bombs. Second, every commissioned beam-capable ship was desperately needed to defend GTVA space. The Bastion was probably the largest ship avaliable at that time. Third, perhaps the curator of the Bastion decided that if it was going to be destroyed, it should be destroyed in the most dignified way possible. The Bastion won the first Great War, and by collapsing the node, it would end the second as well.
Thanks for the feedback!

Actually I'm juggling your mod with Derelict at the moment so I just rename the tables as I need them so I have no pressing need to grab the CotT2 fix just yet. Also, I've emailed that mission to you it should be in your inbox now.

Lastly, sorry to bust your bubble but theres one major flaw in your theory about the Bastion: The Bastion had only been decommissioned shortly before the beginning of FS2. Remember how you're transferred to the 53rd Hammerheads who are waiting in Vega for the Aquitaine to pick them up?

The fact that it was still in service over 30 years after it was first commissioned (it was the newest Orion in the GTA fleet back during the first Great War) makes the fact that it wasn't overhauled even harder to understand.

Why bother worrying about compatibility with FS2 multi?  It's easy to simply rename the table files when you want to play online.  If you''re going to be doing a campaign with mods, do it right.   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

You mean you don't want a Perseus-Valkyrie dogfight?? Seriously, the mod/campaign works perfectly as-is, with multiplayer compatibility. It's like Silent Threat for FS1- Standalone campaign, more multiplayer action, and backwards compatibility.

Lt. Narol, feel free to use the mod files so long as you give credit to Volition for the originals, Dark for the ships, and me for the weapons.
