Download it once, and drag your FS2 folder onto a DVD or whatever. Copy it to as many PCs as you like. You don't need an individual download for each PC, and it saves bandwidth this way.

Aye. Turey will be quite mad if you use the Installer to download all the **** on several computers separately.

The thing with FreeSpace is, that the Installer, regardless of the name, only downloads stuff. And when it has downloaded stuff, you just use Launcher.exe to start playing. That's it. So yeah. The environmentally friendly procedure is that you first download everything on one computer, then just copy it on a DVD (or and external HDD or a big enough stick) and just copy it on other computers. Fun 'n easy.

Just copy the folder.

Older versions of the launcher used to have a problem with you moving the game to a different directory on the other machine but newer versions can cope with that quite well.

Been years since I played FS2 and I am now enthused re the FS2_Open version. As a noob got a couple of questions..I have searched FAQ and there's so many RTFM sections I am confused   

I have today downloaded Turey's FS Open Installer for windows and set off the install process which is still ploughing it's way through numerous downloads.

Questions:

* Can I presume that I am downloading the latest versions of all that stuff shown in the installer startup and that I got the latest version of Turey's Installer;
* Does the Installer download latest stuff as and when it is released if you start the installer;
* If not, which is the best forum to keep an eye for latest updates etc;
* Do I need the discs that came with my original FS2 in the drive to start FS_Open.?

Thanks for responses and apologies if these are covered elsewhere but there's so much stuff to take in and learn.

And much appreciation to the guys who have done all this stuff it is immense, never quite seen this amount of work on a game before from a community.

If you download the installer, you can be sure that the installer itself is the latest, because it checks for updates when run.

As for the rest of the stuff, the Installer has the most up-to-date stuff, and rerunning it over a previous install will update any old files.

The only thing lacking may be that the 3.6.10 .EXEs are old.

That and the fact that it doesn't download the 3.6.10 MediaVPs. Though there is a good reason for that.

I thought it would download one of the 3.6.10 builds, but I might have been mistaken. They can be acquired from the Recent builds board, but if you want as little hassle and bugs as possible, just stick with 3.6.9 and the 3.6.8 Zeta MediaVPs.

No, but if you have them you can save yourself a whole bunch of time downloading by installing from the CDs and then using the installer to add FS2_Open rather than having to download all the FS2 data as well.

..which will also download the .ogg video versions, if you don't put the correct patch file in.. I have a walkthrough on that.  (See my sig.)  Basically, the patch file tells the Installer that it already got the .ogg videos.  Alternatively, you could just uncheck the video sections for the videos you have.  Bleh, Turey needs to make his installer check for .mves in their respective direcories.  I mean, c'mon, we paid him $60,000 to make that Installer.    ...   Oh, wait, that's right, he did it for free.  xD

Usually I rant on about the bandwidth issues and such, but I guess it wouldn't be that wrong to just download the ogg cutscenes and be done with it.

I'm pretty sure you need to delete the current installer and re download it.not sure though, its actually been a few months since I've had to reload FS

Don't know what the Mac files are exactly, but they won't cause any harm, since they won't be used unless you deliberately use them.

I'd guess they're the files on your \freespace\ folder that aren't .exes, .vps, .inis or .txts.

Lobo mac files are the ones that make FS run on a ac computer. I have em on mine too and I'm running windows but I don't have any problems with the Mac files on my computer.

I think a new installer should be made (if you can) with bug free fixes and when the final 3.6.10 MediaVPS is released to ease the new players....
