Re: Anyone play any of the Ace Combat series
Bought it and I enjoyed it completely.  Finished tonight after many intense gaming hours...more than I've logged consecutively for quit a while anyways.  Its like an anime movie except you get to control how things are going for large parts of it.

The story is cliche...completely cliche...and I enjoyed it allot.  I like how they have spent some time fleshing out both the good guys and the bad guys.  Their nations and some of their motivations.  Quite a bit more than expected.  It was sort of neat to have cultural references like the Golden King and so forth.  It adds to the atmosphere and when you fly in defense of your guys on the ground you feel allot more connected to them.

You have to suspend belief with your plane sometimes having 250 missiles or more.  Its hilarious...but the action is intense and I quickly forgot about that bit.

All in all...quite good.

Oh and it looks spectacular.  You can tell the guys who made this love jets and air combat.  Its not just some job...this is definitely a passion for them.  It shows.

I think AC6's website is some proof for that for people who don't own a 360, me included...

It's a shame AC6 is for the 360, only.

Now I'm forced to find a way to buy the 360 for a single game. :doubt:

You could could do worse.  I bought my 360 (second hand) just so I could I could play Project Sylpheed (which isn't bad.  It's kinda like AC6 in space).  I had bought the game before the console just because I liked the look of it.

Plus I was kinda looking for an excuse to buy a 360 for a while.

I like my 360...gotten allot of use out of it.  I was surprised to be using the music/photo/video + USB hardrive/flashdrives capabilities so much.  Its an easy way to get stuff to my high-def TV.

Re: Anyone play any of the Ace Combat series
I've only played Ace Combat 6 ...but I feel like you're inside and interacting with an anime movie.  The plot is cliche but relatively epic.  By the end of the game you feel a sense of belonging with your sides fictional nation.

Don't have a PS2 or a XBox 360 to play some of the later versions on?  I was watching some videos from earlier releases of the game and what strikes me as being most different is Ace Combat 6 on the 360 has much larger battles.  There are dozens of fighters, helicopters, ships, tanks, and vehicles all going around at once in multiple battles.  The earlier games are much smaller scale.

The large scale battles also look incredible...again because the missile trails are so beautiful!

Re: Anyone play any of the Ace Combat series
You're probably refering to the Multilanguage version of AC3 because the Japanese one had one hell of a storyline plus a lot of cutscenes, characters and even the possibility to defect to all factions(UPEO, General Resource, Neucom and Ouroboros).

Would that be this copy ? Random Ebay Link

Don't even know if it would run on a uk PS1. And I don't speak Japanese innit.

Air Combat, published in Japan with the name Ace Combat, is part of the series. The plot, however, is not AC canon and has nothing to do with the rest of the series. You can find many references, though.

Yeah, that one. It ran on my PS1 but only in black-and-white, it was a bit meh but the game, overall, was enjoyable. :)

Re: Anyone play any of the Ace Combat series
I know...Ace Combat has no story at all!! Ugh...  I have a PS2. Hmm...I'm gonna wiki for the latest game I can get in the series for that platform.

EDIT: Well what do you know? AC5 is for PS2! Tell me this fellow friends, need I play the previous games in order to follow the storyline of AC5?

Black and White!? What.....how?

It needed NTSC(or something like that...no, I'm not refering to the Hinton :P) settings because it was Japanese. I played it on my PAL in black-and-white.

I know...Ace Combat has no story at all!!

What. The. Frak? :wtf:

No, you don't have to. Each game of the series has minimal references to the others, except for the AC5 - ACZ duo (nothing that prevents you to understand the plot, actually, most of the references are cameos).

Dude, we're discussing the Japanese version of AC3, not the Multilanguage one. The Jap one has one hell of a story. And no one says "Bogey on your tail!" in AC3 :P
