You must buy this, insect. Bzzzt whrrr hisss...
System Shock 2, what I consider the greatest first person RPG/FPS hybrid ever made, is currently on sale on GoG for $1.99.  If you don't have it, BUY IT.

EDIT:  Flash sale over.

Look at you, poster. A pathetic creature of anime and Cheetos, panting and sweating as you post on my forums. How can you hope to purchase a perfect, immortal machine?

Do you not trust the feelings of the flesh?  Our biology yearns to teach yours.  We welcome you to our mass.  Why do you serve our mother?  How can you choose cold metal over the splendor of flesh?  But you fear us... submit to the biomass and your suffering will end.  You seek your associates, but you cannot find them.  You are so very alone.  How does it feel to be one against the infinite?

Wish I'd grabbed it, but I keep forgetting that GOG doesn't play nice with my debit card, and I didn't feel like wading through customer support to fix that.  Probably for the best though, considering my backlog.

Already have it. And already modded it. There is a very comprehensive mod bundle with many additions. Some of them my own.

Need to port 1 to 2, like fsport did for FreeSpace.

I know there used to be a mod project to do just that; I don't think they ever released anything.
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Codethulhu GitHub wgah'nagl fhtagn.

schrödinbug (noun) - a bug that manifests itself in running software after a programmer notices that the code should never have worked in the first place.

When you gaze long into BMPMAN, BMPMAN also gazes into you.

<Aesaar> literary criticism is vladimir putin

<MageKing17> "There's probably a reason the code is the way it is" is a very dangerous line of thought. :P
<MageKing17> Because the "reason" often turns out to be "nobody noticed it was wrong".
(the very next day)
<MageKing17> this ****ing code did it to me again
<MageKing17> "That doesn't really make sense to me, but I'll assume it was being done for a reason."
<MageKing17> **** ME
<MageKing17> THE REASON IS PEOPLE ARE STUPID
<MageKing17> ESPECIALLY ME

<MageKing17> God damn, I do not understand how this is breaking.
<MageKing17> Everything points to "this should work fine", and yet it's clearly not working.
<MjnMixael> 2 hours later... "God damn, how did this ever work at all?!"
(...)
<MageKing17> so
<MageKing17> more than two hours
<MageKing17> but once again we have reached the inevitable conclusion
<MageKing17> How did this code ever work in the first place!?

<@The_E> Welcome to OpenGL, where standards compliance is optional, and error reporting inconsistent

<MageKing17> It was all working perfectly until I actually tried it on an actual mission.

<IronWorks> I am useful for FSO stuff again. This is a red-letter day!
* z64555 erases "Thursday" and rewrites it in red ink

<MageKing17> TIL the entire homing code is held up by shoestrings and duct tape, basically.

Re: You must buy this, insect. Bzzzt whrrr hisss...
Hmmn I prefer to play games in their original release state personally. If I play FS1 I'll play FS1 not FSPort for example. Played Oblivion without mods, and would do the same for Witcher despite the complaints about its combat. So if System Shock ever came out I would play it in the same way, for the authentic experience.

Re: You must buy this, insect. Bzzzt whrrr hisss...
Trust me when I say you do not want to play SS1 in its original form.  The control scheme is horrendous, and its support for modern control schemes, even as modern as SS2s, is completely absent.
