Besides, it's even easier with the plasma pistol.

That IS impossible. There is no way to beat Tarturus with melee's.

I understand the uses behind the plasma pistol, but I don't want to try to go throughout the whole game with only it, it'd be too easy....

Freespace, and recently GuildWars.  I'm crap at RTS's but now that I've figured out my problems with RA2, I've been running through that, and the other ones too, except for tiberian sun.

Personally, I believe the best way to kill Tartarus is with a Banshee.

Mind would be Wing Commander Prophecy. It was incredibly repetitive but the flight mechanics were alright and the Vampire is a rockin' fighter. It has aged horribly though, but I guess it's quite old now.

I'd have to say that it is Diablo 2.

Indeed. Takes ages otherwise. I also like squeezing vehicles much further into a mission than Bungie intended.

From the subject, it should be about games that you like, but wouldn't normally admit to liking. Unfortunately, about half the posters in here seem too dumb to know what "guilty pleasure" means.

Myself, I'll admit to sometimes playing those inane dating sims over on Newgrounds.

Thought so. Just checking.

Mine is Miss World Nude. It's basically Qix but as you reveal more of the screen you reveal a photo of some nude tart. The title implies they are Miss World contestants or even former Miss Worlds? I think it's more likely though they are just models who happened to be strapped for cash at the time. The game also has some mysterious rule whereby if you reveal the wrong bit of the picture the whole picture flips over and is replaced by a nightmarish Gigeresque Hellraiser picture. Usually of a Pinhead lookalike. Trying to figure out what the hell is going on with that is part of the fun.

Another guilty pleasure would be Rainbow Islands. I love the game to bits but don't generally admit it since the one time I played the game in an arcade some snotty nosed kid came up behind me with his father and pointed at me and laughed exclaiming "Look daddy, that man's playing a girl's game!". The dad wasn't too progressive either and agreed "Yes he is. Isn't he silly.". It was at that moment I made a pact (with myself) to only play manly games like Miss World Nude.

You fool, how can you live a full life without Bub and Bob?

I played the Sims (2) for a bit.  Ultimately, though, I got bored of my hedonistic lesbian dungeon + starvation torture chamber (it's fun to watch the neighbours sleep deprived death in a puddle of their own wee, especially when they're trapped by a waist high fence).  That, and the game was too bloody slow.

the whole thing with not changing the picture is that you cant reveal a lot of the woman at one time...sort of like trying to get laid. You can't just jump in and say "Hey, let's fsck."

this game is like crack!

seriously theres something poetic about a game where you get to hack deadly mushrooms apart with a sword. mind you you need to get over the fact that dispite using a fairly good htl terrain engine, alll the characters are pallettized sprites and the atrocious 16 bit textures. and because the game is cute and allows gay marriage, its also a lesbian magnet :D other than that this version of the game, animaRO, is completely free, no subscription and you dont even have to buy the game.

Ah, that brings back memories of creating custom Age of Empires maps with, oooh, approximately 12 million enemy troops, a big thick forest (impenetrable), a very small gap, and cheat codes for laser and nuclear missile wielding wee guys.

I used to play the old NES/Famicom version of Twinbee, though there were various for the NES.

-----------------------------------------------------------

If I were to choose old puzzle games, I would choose Columns III (Sega Mega Drive), the AI was exceptional in Hard mode, there where multiple secrets, items and effects, the 2 player mode was pretty fun, and you could play up to 5 players, but if you can't play with someone who has about the same skills as you it gets a little pointless.

The other would be Pon'n'Pop but not the Arcade version, the PS1 version, again I liked to play with friends, I remember we would always end in some kind of discussion or fighting because we weren't synchronized.

It wasn't like that in Bubble Bobble 1, I knew since kid, when I played Bubble Bobble Part 2, you get to see that they were kids in the intro.

Can't they be both ?, like this:

I remember that in Pop 'n Pop, among other Taito characters (like Bub 'n' Bob), you could also play as the Rainbow Island guys, but I never knew their names anyway.

Their main tech to kill monsters is called "Kissing monsters", it's the most common way to kill a monster you, once you trap it inside a bubble you when near enough to touch or kiss, as mentioned, either literally or not, don't ask me I don't know.

Err....you have to beat the game with both players, and then eh well, I can't tell here...but peeps wouldn't be the exact word, I'll see if I play it and take an screenshot, but again even the screenshot could be too much to post...

Anyone played Rodland? At first it looks really cute. You've got bright colours, pretty girly backgrounds, cute little faries with magic wands, and equally cute enemies. Then you see the game mechanincs. You zap bad guys with your wand to freeze them in your magical grasp. A bit like Syndrome's zero point gravity device in The Incredibles. Then once you've got hold of them you swing them back and forth over your head smashing them into the ground. It's really quite violent.  ;)

Guilty gaming please?

"Be proud, Mister Wu!"

"Who want-a some Wang?"

I'm too old, and too politically correct to chuckle at that game, yet I still do.

That, and I will admit to being thoroughly addicited to Animal Crossing for about 8 months.

Shadow Warrior (3DRealms, on the Duke Nukem 3D engine) was released in May 1997. Goldeneye in August 1997 ;)

Another guilty pleasure involved alot of alcohol (well, I drank, my friends drank and hit the hooka) and playing 1080 (the snowboarding game) as a Deathmatch (you can kill the other player if you knock them off the mountain, try it if you still have a SNES).

Fun times.

Yeah but i mean independant guns, In Shadow warrior etc, you can only do two of the same, Dual wield implies two different guns.
Title: Re: whats your guilty gaming pleasure?
Post by: Inquisitor on November 16, 2006, 09:07:40 am
Maybe for you it does. Dual (2) wield (hold in hand and use to eviscerate enemies), anyway, worng thread for the dual wield discussion, although that in and of itself is a bit of a guilt pleasure, even if its not the most effective way to kill things in Halo 2, I still always do it so I can cackle about being proud and havign machine guns :)

My living room on game nights is a wee bit psychotic. A slightly overweight, middle aged guy sittign the corner chair, giggling when he picks up the second machine gun.

Fun times. Yeah, that qualifies as a guilty pleasure....

I should mention another thing I spend a lot of time with: making games glitch. The Deus Ex games are the main sources of fun in this respect; for example, I have spent many, many hours trying to get Paul to fall into the elevator shaft during the hotel fight, getting various people stuck inside doors (which is common to many games), getting the civilians in Trier scared of mice or using a vibrating corpse as a catapult to fling stuff around. The Thief, Jedi Knight and Splinter Cell games as well as most RTSs also have a number of possibilities for screwing around with the AI.

Actually, I did something rather cool with the collision physics in FS2 just a few days ago. I need to post a short video clip of this effect sometime.

Jedi Knight glitches? Like what? I played that game quite a bit back in the day. If there's anything like the tricks from that Deus Ex site it should be good for a laugh. Do share.

LOL Yup, I remember that, it was also fun to plant explosives near crowded areas and collapse buildings on people, though I'm not sure how politically correct that would be considered these days :D

I always had a devil of a time converting enemy agents using the converter gun, it never seemed to work no matter how carefully I sneaked up on them :(

Probably a bug or a gameplay oversight. For the most part Syndicate was a nice game engine in search of a game. Like most Bullfrog games actually.

I remember I'd self destruct my own soldiers because they'd blow up muuuch bigger. They'd take town entire city blocks onto unsuspecting civilians. I think I was a sadistic kid..

It's not really so much a "guilty" pleasure, but like CP enjoys glitching games, I like trying to sequence break them. Obtaining some item long before I'm supposed to can yield interesting results. This is mostly for console games, however, like Metroid.

Syndicate on the Amiga rocked! Maybe it was the PC conversion that you played or something but I had a hell of a lot of fun with that game.

You had to "power up" (or whatever) the Persuadertron by using it on a bunch of civilians before it would work on agents.

I loved how there was basically no limit on how many people you could cram in a vehicle. Persuade a crowd, cram in the car, drive somewhere, and instant clown car when you all get out.

Mass persuasion in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=538rLOAaSOc

I'd have to say that it is Diablo 2.

I've been playing it for many years, and I won't rest until I've got a full Trang Oul's Set...

...in singleplayer!

MADNESS! :p

Jedi Knight glitches? Like what? I played that game quite a bit back in the day. If there's anything like the tricks from that Deus Ex site it should be good for a laugh. Do share.

Actually, I was mainly referring to Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, the two newer games. The force push/pull powers and the fact that you can shove friendly guys around by running into them creates some fun situations. (particularly in the last level of JA, where you have a bunch of guys following you)

The Deus Ex series is in a class of its own though. Nothing even compares to those in this respect. :D

Deus Ex - hell yes
System Shock - oh yes indeed

I'll add too that I actually liked those two games.  It was pretty neat seeing and playing Jedi Academy on the Q3 engine, worked out quite well.  Multiplayer was pretty fun, push-pull all the time, it was fun.

In addition to playing the good old Westwood CnC/RA games, I myself though absolutely love the GTA series.  GTA 1 was hilarious when it came out, top-down mass carnage action!  GTA III is great, I liked it better than Vice City, but in San Andreas, they got pretty much everything they got wrong in VC right in SA.  I always keep SA loaded up just in case I want something that I can jump in, play for 10 minutes and put down again, or play for a couple hours and not get bored with it.  When you think of it, the GTA series has so much to do in it, unless you obsess and play it for hours a day, you could keep yourself busy with it for months.

Unfortunately, about half the posters in here seem too dumb to know what "guilty pleasure" means.

Chalk up another blast to Zylon! Woohoo!
At least the bulk of my reply WAS a guilty pleasure.  I'm not going to go around declaring I like a game that had to be re-rated, banned from Wal-mart, and has taken the blame for a lot of teenage deaths. Especially not in Utah.

No I played the Amiga version. I had fun with it too but. Even if the game did feel as if it was tagged on as an afterthought.

OMG Syndicate Wars.

Now that was fun, but I never played as the Church... simply because they didn't have the Minigun at the start, and the Persuadertron II. (I like miniguns a lot too you know.)

[fiercely spoken]EUROCORP SYNDICATE!!![/fiercely spoken] (fist in air)

Wipe out the whole city with miniguns, LR rifles, nuke grenades, plasma lances and graviton guns... Not forgetting the automatic medkit too... Then use the Persuadertron and conquer the people... muhahaha... whole army of soldiers.... MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAA....

I just found a new guilty pleasure. Star Wars Battlefront II instant action mode. By all accounts that game should make me want to die if I should play it, but it's such a great little distraction. I treat it the same way you might treat a Popcap game or something :D
