Ok heres the 2 bodies #1 is a moon #2 is the planet, sorry the screen shot quality is so low and the brightness is so dark, but I did these in a hurry so I could get back to dieing in space

Oh btw even with these two minor problems, Freespace is STILL the top of the line game out there, I'm serious guys, I've played about every game there is this one is the best.

Well, this is odd. Have you tried it with and without the low res planet texture package? And have you tried redownloading Cardinal Spear? It would seem that either the textures are broken or the planet models have something funky going on.

Well I just reinstalled Freespace last week from scratch, and I had nothing but white planets until I installed the low res files.
Maybe I should DL Cardinal Spear separately?

Although this could possibly be a byproduct of the current world condition

I think I'll try DLing the mod by itself and see if I lost something in the mix

Ok DL'd cardinal Spear separately, emptied the folder, replaced everything in teh folder, still has the missing parts of the planets, no biggie though, its not the planet shooting at me
however this screen is from somewhere around Hawaii from the inside of planet Earth, looking out toward the moon, just in case nobody's ever done it before

hey peeps!
its been a while!
but im finally getting some time for my own again
so i wanted to install freespace 2 again:)
but what the heck! the installation took 6 hours!!
also.. i suddenly got this:

Web cursor bitmap not found.  This is most likely due to one of three reasons:
   1) You're running FreeSpace Open from somewhere other than your FreeSpace 2 folder;
   2) You've somehow corrupted your FreeSpace 2 installation;
   3) You haven't installed FreeSpace 2 at all.
Number 1 can be fixed by simply moving the FreeSpace Open executable file to the FreeSpace 2 folder.  Numbers 2 and 3 can be fixed by installing or reinstalling FreeSpace 2.  If neither of these solutions fixes your problem, you've found a bug and should report it.

i never had this before
also on the beginning of the installation the installer couldnt download a file (i think it was goob blabla.txt or something like that atleast the part with goob is all i remember)

but what do i have to do to fix this?
if im going furter with the game
it freezes
or im gettin more errors

That is why Turey included the retail files to the Installer. Some time ago, this really friendly and awesome company called Good Old Games started distributing numerous old classic games, such as FreeSpace2, at extremely consumer-friendly prices. Since there is now a legitimate seller for the game and especially since buying FS2 from GOG supports the license owners, Turey removed the retail files from the Installer. Now, people without FS2 are directed to GOG, where they can buy this fantastic game for $5.99.

one thing I have been wondering about GOG, do they have FS1 also or just FS2? I gotta go look around there and see what other old games they have, I still have the original MYST that ran on a 486 AND I have Forsaken but Forsaken won't run on this new computer and Myst runs in a little window so I keep a 486 win3.1.1 around just for that .

GOG offers FS1, ST and FS2 IIRC.

Yes it does, but if you want a legit copy of the original (with the FS1 AI especially) then it's the way to go.  FSPort isn't identical, but it's close.

If we want to be precise (and we most certainly do), FSPort ports the FS1 campaign, models, textures, sounds, voices and such to FS2. Ports. It is not FS1. Very similar, but not exactly the same. FSPort allows people to play the FS1 campaign (and the Silent Threat campaign) with the FS2/FSO engine, thereby offering a chance to drastically improve the graphics and possibly circumvent any compatibility issues with FS1. But it is not FS1. Only FS1 is FS1.

The good  things about owning  the retail versions are, (1) you can play the original way the game came out (2) the installer doesn't come with them.
Bad thing about owning a copy of FS and FS2 is that disks eventually become scratched.

GOG is a digital download you can get all you want.  No need to worry about disks there.

Yea but my problem is I'm old fashioned, I like to keep my stuff on disk "just in case"
Just like every word doc, is backed up on paper "just in case"

Then you can burn the GOG files to a disk. There's no DRM.
