Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
Warning, excessive amount of nitpicking ahead.

Shot 1
00:07: Weird black line on the water. Also, I'd suggest adding reflections of the ships flying above on the water to give viewer some sense of scale, as well as adding some glints of reflected light on the water.
00:12: The textures on the ship on the right flicker a couple of times.
00:15: Weird flickering on the buildings on the front. Shadows from the buildings on the hillsides are a bit sharp.

Shot 2
Again, shadows are a bit sharp. As it's a sunset scene, they propably should be, but some softening could help here.

Shot 3

Really not many complaints of this shot, maybe fade the lens flare a bit. There's something weird going on with the dof on the houses on the lower part of the screen at around 00:32.

Shot 4
Suffers from some minor star flickering, as do all space shots, but I have a feeling it's mostly due to compression.

Shot 5
Nice fading transitions here. The reflection effect on Lucy is a bit weird but cool.

Shot 6
01:22: The planet could use a bit of work, especially the atmosphere edge facing the sun. It's just too saturated and sharp to the point of looking solid. Although this is the planet freak talking, feel free to ignore  :P

Shot 7
The radial effect is pretty nice, but does look a bit weird when Lucy gets close. Minor nitpick though.

Shot 8
As I said above, shadows could be a bit softer. Again some flickering with the small ships in the distance, compression problems?

Shot 9
01:43: Lens flares on the side of Lucy... the red circles just dont look that great  :P
01:50: Love the fighters.

Shot 10
02:02: Lens flare! Lens flare!

Not much to complain about in the rest of the cutscene, apart from some technical stuff. In the future, you should consider rendering in 16:9 format (1280x720 or 1024x576), having a fps of 24 or 25 and maybe using layered output and putting the whole thing together in post.

Don't take my crits too seriously though, you did great work on the animation.

Added mirrors for both .vp table edit and actual .ogg video, see my post b4 Lt Cannonfodder's.

* jr2 needs direct link to .vp file, can't find it in those posts.

EDIT: nvm - got it.

EDIT2: Mirrors: RapidShare | MediaFire

EDIT3: .ogg video mirrors: MediaFire | RapidShare

okay

here is the final-final release. sound is mp3 now and the video is XVid, both with high rates and no difference visible to original rendering. filesize approx. 50 MB.......enjoy.

EDIT:
EXTENDED VERSION AVI (77 mb):
http://files.filefront.com/vasuda+newavi/;9332734;/fileinfo.html

EXTENDED VERSION OGG (68 mb):
http://files.filefront.com/vasuda+newogg/;9333129;/fileinfo.html

- DL and copy the file of your choice to your fsport/data/movies folder

- then modify the "freespace.fc2"-campaign-file this way:
add  the filename under mission options of mission "sm2-10a" into "briefing cutscene"

- save the campaign

during the campaign it will play then

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
thanks 2 both of you :)

regarding the shots

1 - its sand, no water ;) but the black line is just a bad placing of the 2 ground layers....but im too lazy 2 fix it ;)

2 - i used hard shadows because they reduce rendertime a lot. if i use smoothed shadows, wee......it would still render ;) this szene is the most complex is the video. also with hard shadows it took 20 hours to render!

3 - woho....i hate DOF of cinema4d.....havn´t seen it so far.....hmmm.....i interpret it as seeing effect of hot air rising ;)

4 - must be compression. in the avi i dont have any problems :/

6 - i know what you mean....but i think we can leave it this way.....its only this shot.....

7 - hehe....played only with this effect a bit....liked it....;)

8 - flickering is weird....it appeared after editing the scene to the actual look. was not able to fix this....still do not know where it comes from....its also in the uncompressed :(

10 - there is lensflare ;) between lucy and planet.....but i never overdo lensflares.....too much is not so good imho.....

of course i could fix some errors here and there, but i want to do the tombaugh now.....i can live with the vasuda toasting as it is now ;) but many thanks for your comments and i would appreciate them also in the tombaugh wip :)

I was referring to the lens flare effect on the source of the Lucy's beam. The effect is a bit cheesy, but no biggie.

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
As G5K explains in this post this leads to a bad cutscene order.

What you should do while editing freespace.fc2 is:
  • Vasuda.ogg (or Vasuda.mve to keep it fully canon) should be played at the beginning of sm3-01.fs2.
  • But you have Ancients4.mve in that mission. Move it wherever you want. As example sm2-10a.

Also, do not forget to edit Cutscene.tbl or you won't be able to see it again in Tech room > Cutscene player. And if you have previously played the full campaign, I'm sorry to say that you DO need to replay it again in order the cutscene to be shown.

If you are lazy you can grab the vp from this post of mine and put it in the FS port folder.

I've returned home and I've starting to download the ogg movie (remember that it's going to be the only valid one). And I've noticed that it's call vasuda_new. Maybe this is a stupid post but you should rename it to vasuda if you want my vp to work.
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLES WITH FS2:
  • Please, please, please, READ and UNDERSTAND the sticky threads in FreeSpace & FreeSpace Open Support board.
A lot of people are willing to help you, but, as anyone can understand, seeing the very same "issues" repeated again and again can become quite depressing. Please, spend a bit of time trying to solve the issue by yourself.
    (Lobo deserves a monument).
  • Then, if you aren't still able to solve your issue, feel free to ask for help in that same board.
FYI, most of the troubles are caused by wrong mod installations which lead to either missing data or undesired cross-effects between them. Always follow the mod installation instructions and keep a clean FS2 installation as explained in the sticky threads. Two additional links about how the game handles game data:
  • If you think that you've discovered a bug, mantis it.
Provide as much info as you can, and try to narrow it down. A lonely "FS2 doesn't work" is not a good report.

Not to worry. Another mirror here. Includes also the proper campaign file and table file, all packed up into a vp.

No problem, it was a quote just for noob people. Don't worry about renaming it. (In fact it's easier if I rebuild the vp using vasuda_new instead of vasuda string).

BUT the bad news are that the ogg movie don't play in FSOpen.

An easy way to test:
+ Rename it to Intro.ogg so it's loaded at the very beginning of the game.
+ It just doesn't play.

I've tested with 3.6.9. and latest beta build from Taylor (Xt1207). Can anyone confirm that he can play the ogg version in game?

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
:(  I can confirm it doesn't play in FS2  Greeeaaat.  But it does play in VLC.  Does FS2 only support certain types of .ogg videos?  If so, this should be changed, no?  Otherwise anyone building a campaign will have to make their cutscenes a certain type of .ogg.

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
Goober had to resize the TVWP Outro movie to a width of 640 for it to work.  I haven't seen any precise specs for how the OGG should be formed.
If a man consults whether he is to fight, when he has the power in his own hands, it is certain that his opinion is against fighting.

Re: Vasuda-Toasting-Cutscene / FINAL-Release + Extended Version Release
Taylor tells me the limit will be removed in 3.6.10.  It was a quick thing added to 3.6.9 to get cutscenes working, since the resizing code wasn't working yet.

You should be able to tell what the error is by examining the log file.

Confirmed. From Xt1207 fs2_open.log (renaming Vasuda.ogg to Intro.ogg):

Amazing job,  shame it won't work.  No clue why. Is the resolution problem a problem in the 10/28 build?
