The mystery thread seems a little...off. Didn't the Ancients subjugate a great many species before the Shivans arrived? Not just one?

That's a bit weird because the Ancient speaker in FS1 clearly stated that they did not meet any advanced forms of lives at the beginning. They encountered other species only later.

I assume you mean the cut scenes in Freespace 1.  If the speaker isn't an ancient which does not make sense.  Who else would remember how the Ancients were destroyed.  If the speaker is not an ancient than who or what is it?

I never mentioned anything about FS1.
I've only stated that in this HERE thread, the narrator is not the Ancients.

If you guys are going to use the Akrotiri, please don't destroy its main gun too early. Both PI and BP were a bit frustrating because that main gun at the bottom of the carrier always gets destroyed before the player can really see it in action.

Unfortunately, FS1 is the main source of info regarding the Ancients.

(I say unfortunately because many FS1-related things have been retconned in FS2 and we will never know how the plans for the Ancients evolved)

Mobius, please stop jumping all over people regarding the slightest canonical nitpick. He said 'before we really get to see it in action.' The PI incident could easily qualify as 'not really seeing it in action'.
