So since the TVWP has been working exclusively on the Unification War for several years now with no sign of an actual Terran-Vasudan War anytime soon...
how, if at all, does this project mesh with that one?

Doesn't.

Thank you for the clarification. Again, nothing against TVWP, it's just thatwe've started developinh before we've seen them releasing their thing. As such, we've went into different directions.
For instance, they don't have Shivans ;7

Shivans. In the unification war. :wtf:

Shivans. In the unification war. :wtf:
Yes. Without contradicting canon.

Well yeah but no but yeah (http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/02/17/little_britain_narrowweb__300x431,0.jpg)

Hmm. Well, they did the same thing on Enterprise. But still.
We'll see how that turns out, I suppose.

If I remember correctly then Silent Threat hinted at the GTI knowing about the Shivans before they started their attacks.
The only thing the Shivans have to do, to stay hidden from the bulk of Humanity is leaving no survivors, except secret agents (probably inclusing the player) who keep the information in a closed loop of what will later become the GTI.
At least that's the only way I can imagine Shivans to appear in the unification war, without breaking canon or seeing the player either dead or carted off by the nice uncles with the white "I hug myself" jacket.

The latter would be funny though. "Alpha 1 got Lt. Ash-syndrome".
-
Alpha 1 is Lt. Ash. ;)

perhaps, contrarily to TVWP, syrk can cover the unification war from start to finish... although the 158th also did have a go at that period...

We begin just after the fireworks start and we see it all the way to the end.
