Black boxes around nebula, Mac OS X
Hi.  I have installed the FS2_Open mac app (version 3.6.9 from here - one note:  the disk image says 3.6.9, the file name says 3.6.9 but the version number in the info screen is still 3.6.7.  I assume someone forgot to update the number) on an intel iMac (core 2 duo 2.16 GHz; 1 gig ram; ATI Radeon X1600 256 meg graphics card) and it is mostly running fine.

I have the latest Media VPs (3.6.8 zeta, including the mp-710 patches, all from here.  The nice new textures and everything load fine, and in general the game looks great - the only problem is the nebulas in the background all have black boxes around them, as though they are supposed to be transparent but aren't.  This really spoils the look of the game.  Anyone else having this problem?  I have read in other forums that this is usually because you have outdated media VPs, but I have just re-downloaded all of them and exactly the same thing happens.  What's more, installing the game under Windows (bootcamp) makes it work fine... this leads me to believe this is a mac-specific problem.

(edit)  Oh yeah, I'm running it at 1680x1050 32bit, with the following command line options (in cmdline_fso.cfg):
Quote
-spec -glow -env -jpgtga -mipmap -missile_lighting -ship_choice_3d -3dwarp -warp_flash -cache_bitmaps -mod mediavps -dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -snd_preload -alpha_env

Help?  Thanks.

Re: Black boxes around nebula, Mac OS X
Are you certain you actually have the 3.6.8 Zeta Media VPs? The ones on the SCP website also have the same names and are a lot older. You only have the Zetas if you downloaded them from the zeta thread or installed via Turey's installer.

Re: Black boxes around nebula, Mac OS X
I am sure that I downloaded the zeta release MVPs from the thread on the forum - the zpack as well as adveffects and all the 710 patches.

Just in case, here are the md5 checksums.  Could someone with a known-good installation double-check these for me?  Thanks.
MD5 (mp-710_adveffects.vp) = 7646b8a53ed64442c0779bd06fdf0442

MD5s seem to be ok
Do not meddle in the affairs of coders for they are soggy and hard to light

Re: Black boxes around nebula, Mac OS X
Sounds like a mac specific problem then. Especially if as you say you don't get this problem under windows.

Re: Black boxes around nebula, Mac OS X
I found this issue in the bug reporting system, which seems to fit my symptoms, so I posted a message there.  Just posting this so anyone else who reads this thread knows the bug entry.

Hi all, I'm new here and I'm also suffering from this bug. I have posted info and specs in Mantis.
