Blue Planet First Mission
Ok, i'm a little confused at the first mission of the campaign. I think its Alpha 2 who says there is a mysterious signal 10 clicks out, and then we Investigate. But now i'm confused because i don't know where to go! Am i just supposed to fly around aimlessly until i find the signal?

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
There are navpoints (one by one) on your escort list. Target them and fly to them. Also, there is (eventually) a blinking dot on your radar. Fly to it.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
Look at your radar.  There should be a flashing blip.  Maneuver until it is centered, and then head in that direction.  You may have to re-adjust your direction at some point, but if you do this, you will come across it soon enough.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
hm, ok so lets say that i am at the second waypoint, which direction should i be heading in? I've gone about 2000 (insert unit of distance here) away from it and theres still nothing. I'm thinking that i might have gone in the wrong direction or something.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
Go to the first waypoint.  At this point, a flashing blip should show up.  Head toward it.  Ignore the second waypoint.  The thing you are supposed to find is pretty far out, and pretty small, so just hang in there.  Divert all power to your engines and hit your burners if you want to get there faster.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
Damn, i'm still not getting it. Can you post a screen of what you see at that point in the mission? What i wouldn't do for a locked-on target...

DUDE. Turn off the 3D radar in the launcher!

Don't use the 3D launcher for find-the-blip missions.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
Yeah i had tried it earlier with the 2d radar because i thought that was the issue, but it still didnt show up.

Use the 2D radar, make sure the range is set to infinity.

Don't use the 3D launcher for find-the-blip missions.

Why not? I find the 3d radar to be usable in most situations (in fact, the only mission where I was unable to use it effectively was the EMP-Hell mission from the secon SOC loop), especially when used with Radar icons. The real culprit here seems to be the radar range.

For a new player it's going to make things more difficult.

I was a new player once, and I found the 2d radar to be profoundly irritating.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
As it turns out, it was the radar range. I can handle the 3d-dar with the blips, but i can see how it would be confusing for some. Thanks for the help guys.

It's the default and it's what the missions were designed for -- case in point, 'As Lightning Fall'. It's also very simple, and it requires less spatial cognition; you just have to put what you're heading towards in the middle.

Plus, it looks a hell of a lot slicker than vector-rendered orange and purple lines. :p

Once I switched to 3D radar, I couldn't switch back.
Sure, it has hard to get used to, but vector-rendered lines look so damn cool.

The 3D radar is the only way to go. The standard 2D one annoyed the hell out of me, upgraded to 3D as soon as I knew it existed.

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
I unbind the key that changes radar ranges. It's never useful, and occasionally I'd hit it on accident and spend an hour or two in the OP's shoes. :D

Re: Blue Planet First Mission
What's the point of the Radar range anyway? Is there ever a time where you have too many targets that you need to filter them out?
Fun while it lasted.

Then bitter.
