I cant see any threads yet, pardon me if I missed it, but I am looking to see if I can play FS2 using a Mouse. I used to play using a stick and controller, but wondered if anyone ever used a Mouse?
Thanks Folks!

You can... and it is very similar to a FPS then.
Even i prefer a stick, in my experience FreeSpace was always easier with a mouse due to the heavy erratic movements you can do with it thanks to today's high DPI rates.
My G940 with its FFB resistance would simply break apart if i would try such maneuvers with a stick
Even i can partially compensate it with other maneuvers as i have rudder and pedal controls. But the effort is different of course.

I've used mouse to play this game for the last 6 years and it works perfectly fine. Options even has a few settings to finetune it

Hi Fellas! Thanks for the replies :) What kind of a mouse did you use? I was thinking of a 5 point mouse.

Any mouse works. I use a Razer Viper but that's moreso because I like having dpi switches for art and stuff.

I am still using my customized Logitech MX518.
Well.. unbelieveable i bought that from Logitech 16 years ago. A grandrelative of current mice.

It’s possible, but admittedly only if you have a ball-type gaming mouse. Could possibly use a regular one with sensitivity at the max, but I’ve never had good luck that way.

I'll also add that if you want to have the mouse switch between fine precision and acting like a joystick you can use this script: https://github.com/wookieejedi/FSO-Scripts/tree/master/Joystick-Mouse (https://github.com/wookieejedi/FSO-Scripts/tree/master/Joystick-Mouse). It can toggle between the two modes on the fly, which can be useful :)

mouse player here, i just use some cheap ass argom tech i got passing by a tech store. FS is pretty playable with it
-
Yeah I use a mouse (Logitech G502 but I'm sure even a cheap mouse would be fine) and it works great, I recommend messing around with the keybinds though because the default binds don't really go well with a mouse

Well I am back! Got it downloaded, Kossnos Launcher installed and been playing the last 2 days with the mouse. I can say I still prefer my stick and throttle I have stored away in the back room. I just wanted to be able to play this game while in the living room on my gamer laptop and it's acceptable if not optimal :)
Now I'll able to do some getting back into making textures and stuff like I did many moons ago.
Thanks all for your help!

I used to play FS2 with a left-handed mouse and the numpad with of custom configuration to do 90% of my keybinds on my right hand with my left hand to aim, target, and shoot.

Been playing FS/FS2 exclusively with a 2 button mouse for years. Became an expert in flying with it in 98 before I had any money to burn.
If you like what you have there's no reason to bail. Find what works for you.
(Except for those old-old-old non-optical mouses they used to have on Dell PCs. The ones with the ball inside? They used to gather lint. Many curses sworn. Many ragequits, many deaths.)

I've rarely played with anything other than mouse + keyboard. I always found the joystick jarring and uncomfortable.
