Except where it pertasined to subspace. Still, there's a world of difference between Caeser and GTVA R+D - I think their 5 year estimate was optimistic, but I think eventually they will get it working.

Personally I haven't always been totally convinced that the GTVA would just pick up the Knossos and make it work. It's alien technology, different and possibily more advanced than the GTVA's - do they for example, have the pre-requisite industrial base or understanding of subspace to make something like a knossos work?

The Vasudans have a solid industrial base. I think the Terrans are still building theirs up.

The technology might be alien, but the GTVA has had decades of experience in tinkering with the Ancients technology (and Shivan technology).
"The reason for this is that the original Fortran got so convoluted and extensive (10's of millions of lines of code) that no-one can actually figure out how it works, there's a massive project going on to decode the original Fortran and write a more modern system, but until then, the UK communication network is actually relying heavily on 35 year old Fortran that nobody understands." - Flipside

That interestingly brings up how much Terran and Vasuadan susbspace technology was self-developed and how much of it was based on the ancients'.
Long time ago, you see, there was this thing called the VBB and... oh, nevermind.

Terran subspace drives were developed in isolation in the Sol system. Vasudan tech on the other hand may well have been developed from or inspired by Ancient technology (there is an unspecified link between the Vasudans and the Ancients). Subspace sensor tech (and possibly other advances) was copied from the records found at Altair.

Except that the Vasudan scientists on Altair didn't seem to know who the Ancients were when they described their find. "These ruins are neither Terran, nor Vasudan, nor Shivan."

So most likely, the Zods developed subspace drives indigenously. Possibly even before the GTA did (they had the motivation of needing resources from offworld).

Either that, or they had to bribe/steal from the Terrans (which is unlikely IMO, since if that were the case, the Terrans might have overrun Vasuda very quickly right after the war began, simply due to the massive tactical advantage granted by subspace technology).

Is that canon, in the literature? Otherwise, if the Vasuadans had outside influences, it's not entirely unconcievable that Terrans might have had bits of something to base itself on, floating around Sol or buried, and ancient technology does seem to be all the over the place (Deneb, Gamma). Now supposedly the discovery of ancient technology in FS1 was shown to us to be amazing and original, but earlier discoveries should simply have not been publicized by the governments involved, but this time they wanted a moral boost in a hopeless war.

I wouldn't take that quote quite that seriously. It's not exactly Terran or Vasudan technology, but that doesn't mean that it is not related technology.

:) Ah. Our discussions before BWO's release. Waiting happily !

The FreeSpace bible says that subspace technology was developed in the Sol system and that it enabled the Terrans to achieve interstellar travel.  No help from the ancients required.

As far as I can remember, the only ancient things that had been discovered until the Knossos (or maybe Altair), were ruins and writing on stone walls.

Also the thing (in my mind) that more or less proves that Vasudans and Terrans come from the same crucible, is HoL. It is highly persumable they got their "legend" from the Ancients' final scriptures.

BWO Rocks. I loved the voice-acting in the demo, absolutely PERFECT. I can't believe you people can't remember that. I remember thinking "You rotten bastards!" when the Command Briefing told us the Scion vented the Khnum's crew into space. The demo was THAT good.
