First try taking the CD out of the drive or get rid of whatever j: is.
What exactally happens when you get the error? Does the game just lock up? Is there any message on the screen?

Yes. The fs2_open.log is useful, but only if we know just what kind of an error you're experiencing.
Some thing you can/should do:
- Move fsport-awakenin's.vp to \freespace2\awakenings\ and use a mod.ini (details in Karajorma's FreeSpace FAQ).
- Use only one set of MediaVPs at a time: basically choose either the files beginning with MV_, or the files beginning with mv_ and mp_.
- Move all the .vp files in \freespace2\fsport\data\ away. They shouldn't be there. Or anywhere, for that matter.
- Make sure that you've selected the proper campaign from the in-game Campaign Room. You have FSPort as an active mod, so you should be trying to play either the FS1 campaign or Silent Threat.

Actually, no it didn't. You are still screwed up. You see, as I told you, you had FSPort as an active mod. FSport allows you to play the classic FS1 campaign and the Silent Threat campaign with the brand new spankin' FS2/FSO engine. Therefore, if you select FSPort as a mod, you should start the game, go to the Campaign Room and select the FS1 campaign, instead of the default FS2 campaign. But, as we see here...

these are FS2 weapons and ships, which means you still try to play the FS2 campaign with FSPort as an active mod. Cut it out!
