In case you missed them (didn't we all? :)), the Highlights are back, front and center on the main forum page. I'll be working on getting them integrated into the frontpage soon.
If you see something that's highlight-worthy, just use the "report a post" function for now. Remember to state that you think the post is highlight-worthy, and ignore the whole "this post is evil" feel the forums give you in the process. Us humans know the difference between quality and crap. :p
Update by Kalfireth:
Some people, myself included, have had a problem where the highlights can display incorrectly (as ugly rows rather than columns) in Firefox. I've found that force-refreshing (view - reload) fixes the problem as it forces your browser to reload the information. If anyone has any problems with the formatting, please message me.
Update by Sandwich:
The highlights should now display properly on the mainpage in IE7. Like Kal said, force-refresh if it doesn't look right.
-
Well, it's about damn time! :D
-
I liked them better the way you originally showed me. This way looks too cluttered and makes the boards too much longer :/
-
Maybe if you 86ed the pictures....
-
Yeah, they were much better arranged horizontally.
-
if the highlights look strage in Firefox force refresh the page by pressing Ctrl+F5 and it will look a lot better :)
-
Ohhhh, pretty...

Yeah, what Windrunner said. It's your browser caching the CSS file and not realizing I added some bits to it. :) Do you really think I'd prefer them vertically and stretched out?? :p
-
Yay
I don't care that much how they look, the important part is that they're back :)
-
My god, it's better than before!
-
Ah, definately better.
Now to try and earn a highlight. guess Ill have to finish off my lizard fleet....
-
wootage!
-
Finally. :D Best part of HLP 2 IMO.
-
yay!
-
...aaaand they're up and running on the frontpage (http://www.hard-light.net/) now as well. :)
-
And you say you're a lazy ass? pshaw. :P
-
Nice hover style on those highlights
Any chance of getting the old highlights from the previous version of HLP added to the list?
-
That'd be a task and a half, not to mention about 6+ months out of date...
-
As opposed to these which are 3+ months old :p
-
We have newer highlights coming later, the ones we have displayed now need to stay a few days and then four more will be added. If you want to suggest a topic to be highlighted, please do. For now you can do it in this topic until we have catched up with the recent developments, after that "report to moderator" should be enough to let admins know about highlight worthy topics.
Edit: Here is our list of upcoming highlights in order. If you think we missed something, please do tell. :)

Do you mind if I suggest something?
How about making the pictures black and white, and then scroll over and they turn into color? Good idea?
-
Well, it's an idea, but not one I'm eager to implement. It's probably more work than it's worth.

Hours of work for something that most people would only appreciate for about 6 seconds? If that's not worth it, I don't know what is.
-
it's simple code with javascript, but it requires making double the art, and uses more bandwidth that way (as 2 images must be sent, rather than one)
-
I think the way it is now has always been good. There's no need to have this "black and white turns to color when cursor moves over it" thing.
Besides, let people be happy that we HAVE highlights at all. Don't be insatiable.
Anyway, good job on implementing the highlights. Again
-
Sorry for being so demanding, I just like the way they 'light up' as they do now, just thought it would be interesting to see the pictures do that too.
-
Woo! Highlights!
I was missing them :p
-
See? I only had to commend the admins for the re-emergence of highlights and ITHOV becomes highlighted.
-
Don't start thinking you have special powers now ;)
-
This is great news. Highlight it.
-
-
For me the "Related Sites" thing on the front page is displaying behind the body of the page, is there something you can do about this?
-
What browser are you using?
-
I just had an idea for the highlights. What do you guys think about the Highlights being the way they are now for logged-in users, but for guests, having topics up there that are more likely to be what they're looking for? For instance:
Logged-in users see the standard highlights.
guests see Guidelines For Forum Conduct: All Users Please Read. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,37583.0.html), Topic: Freespace 2 Download Links (Make sure to look at all the pages!) (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,38195.0.html), FreeSpace Open Installer! Download it now! (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,42854.0.html), and Topic: Download Freespace 2 SCP Pack v1.5c (Complete) by ShivanSpS (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,39499.0.html).
This change would point more guests in the right direction, instead of having them post topics complaining that they can't find where to get stuff, which means a decrease in "Help Me!" Threads.
It'd also give guests an incentive for delurking, as then they could see the actual highlights.
So what do you think? Am I completely out of it or is this an okay idea?
-
That would be... interesting. I'm not sure, because the minute they register they'd be like: :wtf: where are the links?
-
As highlights, no, but if you'd like to gather a list of all the relevant threads together and put them into the Wiki, it'd be A1-SUPAR. :)
We could also find an appropriate place for them on the frontpage.

Sounds fun. I'll see what I can do.

Sorry, I forgot about this. I am using IE6. And yes, I realize that this is an out-of-date program.
-
I no longer have IE6 to test with... is the problem still happening?
-
I'm surprised no one else has suggested it yet, but perhaps a highlight is due for the release of Inferno: Alliance?
-
Remind me, did M$ make i.e.7 a critical update?
-
Yes, they did make IE7 a critical Update - and I agree with them on the classification. :p
IA? :nervous:
